Though I've been coming to this location for years, the employee I spoke to really motivated me to write this. The kindest older woman checked me out, immediately curious about my purchase because she needed shoe recommendations. It felt like she genuinely cared about my opinion and was happy to have a conversation. In retail, you know this is far and few. She assured me about the return policy when I asked about it and helped me quickly locate my rewards. There are a lot of mid range (nice but not outrageous) designer brands. You can easily spend over $100 on a pair of jeans or $200 on a dress or coat. BUT, they also have sales (I saw a lot of 30% off on some brands) and they have sale racks with markdowns. By wondering around I figured out there's 2 levels of sales racks. One is a first mark down. Here you'll find the $160 jeans for $80-$125 (as an example), but there's also a second section of mark down racks in the departments (usually 2-3 racks) with a second mark down. Here I found a $120 dress for $35 as an example. I think while it's definitely a more expensive, luxury brand place, there are some more budget friendly options. Everything I bought that night was on sale. AND I found a pen mark on a dress I really wanted that was on double mark down. The incredibly nice sales lady in the department walked the dress all the way upstairs to the alterations department and they all tried to get the mark out for me. She was equally attentive to me as a customer buying a $35 dress as one that cost $200. Even when she could not get the mark out, she helped me decide on another one from the sales rack that was also $35. I really loved that and when I need that $200 dress, I'll go back to Von Maur and when I want to have fun buying a few super sale dresses, pants, etc, I'll also go back to Von Maur because they valued me no matter what my budget was that night! I wish I had gotten her name. The kitchen section has a few nicer items but is marked up a lot from a regular experience, sometimes by a lot. So if you want Bobby Flay's pan set, break out the plastic baby it's gonna cost ya! Overall, Kohl's is very middle America in terms of financial tier, the mentality and corporate targeting. On the day I walked in recently I was on a mission to visit H&M to pick up some back to school staples for my 1st grader, but thought I'd check out the kids section here first just in case there was a steal on some mini boden or something. Their kids area is packed with adorable clothes, and while I did see some decent deals on the sale rack everything was a bit pricey for my regular back to school haul so I continued on to H&M. Every time I've price shopped or compared with all the usual suspects - both brick and mortar, and online - Menards is either the best price, or darn close. The primary thing I dislike about their approach to commerce is that they don't offer as liberal a free shipping policy as the likes of Amazon, Home Depot, etc. So, many times I order online and then get stuck being required to come in to pick up my order. It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's definitely a major hit against day-to-day convenience in the Amazon age. The other thing I really dislike is the constant "rebate" scheme they like to employ. I know every place has their goofy quirks, but I really dislike the difficulty of this sort of business practice. It feels about the same as when airlines show you an airfare on the first page, only to find out that there are fees behind that which nearly double the actual cost. It's just a way for them to show you a less-realistic low price to keep you from surfing to the competition. Lastly, while the people who work here always seem polite and are helpful when I speak with them, hunting them down can be akin to finding a needle in a haystack. Anyway, I went to that location and there was a line waiting to talk to one of the 3 guys behind the counter. I was at the wrong counter. When it was my turn one guy said I needed to go back into the next room through a doorway. I went there and here was a young guy there that helped me. He took off and eventually came back with my small package. Now since I parked outside the front door that had a sign that stated "ORDER PICKUP", I had to go back through the store to the checkout area (I was already on far East side of store anyway) and walk through the checkout area where people were waiting to pay. Then I had to exit outside because I did not see any way to exit without going back completely through the store again! I had parked all the way at the West end of the store in handicap parking where, I had originally come inside (because the sign on the door stated "ORDER PICK UP".
