This store reminded me of going to your local department store. Reminiscent of my youth. The place where you walk in and lose yourself for a few hours wondering around to different departments, up and down the escalator and in each place encountering a dressed up sales person ready to help you in any way. I admit I do enjoy the experience! I understand this isn't for everybody and I also realize some folks would feel they may not get the same treatment. I think that's something important to acknowledge in reality and something I hope Von Maur takes very seriously. I did note that they offer an interest free card and that is incredible and unheard of these days! I didn't think to look but I really hope they offer a layaway plan as well. And hopefully for a very small fee since some folks may not qualify for credit but would still like to buy a nice gift for someone. I absolutely signed up for the interest free card. This is very smart of this company because they will get your business but not charge you absorbent interest! Refreshing! I did enjoy my couple of hours there. Not being from the Midwest, I had never heard of Von Maur but I wondered in because I was curious!. It's very lovely and they had decorated for the holidays. Unfortunately, I did not see a live piano player on the first floor but the piano was there and they had lovely piano music throughout the store. They have numerous departments with many fine offerings in apparel, cosmetics, accessories, and more. I didn't see any home goods which I would have enjoyed as well but it's not a huge store. I'm not sure if that's offered at any other location but maybe 1 day, it'll be added. I also wish they had a larger selection of petites but at least they have that section! Let's talk about price... There are a lot of mid range (nice but not outrageous) designer brands. You can easily spend over $100 on a pair of jeans or $200 on a dress or coat. BUT, they also have sales (I saw a lot of 30% off on some brands) and they have sale racks with markdowns. By wondering around I figured out there's 2 levels of sales racks. One is a first mark down. Here you'll find the $160 jeans for $80-$125 (as an example), but there's also a second section of mark down racks in the departments (usually 2-3 racks) with a second mark down. Here I found a $120 dress for $35 as an example. I think while it's definitely a more expensive, luxury brand place, there are some more budget friendly options. Everything I bought that night was on sale. AND I found a pen mark on a dress I really wanted that was on double mark down. The incredibly nice sales lady in the department walked the dress all the way upstairs to the alterations department and they all tried to get the mark out for me. She was equally attentive to me as a customer buying a $35 dress as one that cost $200. Even when she could not get the mark out, she helped me decide on another one from the sales rack that was also $35. I really loved that and when I need that $200 dress, I'll go back to Von Maur and when I want to have fun buying a few super sale dresses, pants, etc, I'll also go back to Von Maur because they valued me no matter what my budget was that night! I wish I had gotten her name. Just in case, she was around 5'3-5'4, shoulder length blonde hair, and was wearing a cute set from the store which I want to go back and get now. lol she was working in the downstairs juniors and women's department area on the night of 11/29/25. She is great! Make sure you treat her well! All the sales associates I encountered were terrific. Another one helped me open my interest free card. We closed down the store that night but were never made to feel as if we had to rush out even though we were respectful and paid and left right after they closed. I just had the worst experience at this store! I sent my 13 and 5 year old to the restroom and during their trip downstairs my eldest told me that my 5 year old picked up a headband and was playing with it. He said the were approached by a male employee who stated, "That's not to be played with." My 13 year old said after the headband was put back, the 5 year old made a comment that the man shouldn't be talking to them. At that time my son was asked if they needed to be escorted out by the male employee. When my son told me what occurred on the lower level, I immediately chastised my younger son for talking back to an adult but was bothered that they were asked if they needed to be escorted out and planned to speak to the worker. A few minutes after getting the report from my eldest, he motioned that the man coming up on the escalator was the individual who approached them. I turned and said, "Excuse me are you the gentleman that asked my sons if they needed to be escorted out?" The employee replied," Yes I am! Do you need to be escorted out?" I told him that I spoke with my children but rather than ask if the needed to be escorted out, maybe he should ask if they needed to be escorted to their parents. After an exchange with him regarding his approach and behavior he ultimately said that I was not welcome to shop at this store and that he is the director of sales. David pointed his glasses in my face several times and continued to intimidate me by taking steps closer and closer to me. I was outraged and the manager came with an apology but I have a video recording of everything that occurred. I'll never shop here again. read more

It's a beautiful store, especially now that it's decorated for the holidays...it's worth going just to see that! It's been so long since I've been in a high-end department store I felt like I was in a fairyland! I called ahead because there was something very specific I had been searching for for weeks, and someone told me to look at Von Maur. And unlike what happens most places these days, a real person answered the phone, got me to the correct department, and that person went and found what I needed. It's always a treat to go to Von Maur, the KC location is one of my favorite. The staff is always friendly, helpful and goes above and beyond. It's refreshing to have solid customer service in today's world, it's still valued. They have multiple selections, men's, junior men/women, shoes ( both men and women), make up, jewelry, women's petites, women's plus size, home decor and purses. I primarily buy their things on sale, which is the circle racks. They offer multiple higher end, high quality brands in all departments. I believe they offer a VM credit card with zero interest, which I've never opened. If they don't have your size, they will mail it from a different store and it almost always comes with a hand written note. They also provide alterations for clothing. I believe most is free. If you want a relaxed shopping experience make it a point to go! read more

Me and my bf recently went in to look at baby clothes. While just walking around and talking a worker approached us and rudely asked if we were with our parents. We are both 19 and expecting in September. After saying no she gave us a very disgusted look. I don't appreciate being treated so rudely in such a nice store. I would expect the customer service to be over the top and will not be returning, nor will i recommend it after that experience. read more

I love Von Maur! Every time I go in to this place I love it even more. The staff are so welcoming and make you feel valued as a customer. I love that they have a pianist providing a wonderful ambience and numerous areas for your loved ones to sit and relax while others are continuing to shop. Prices are right on target for the designers that are carried but come on, who doesn't love a good sale? Their markdowns are phenomenal and I love that I can by nice-quality clothing at bargain prices. Make sure you try everything on because mark-downs to not qualify for exchanges or returns. So much turn over in employees because the company isnt up to date with what a livable wage is and and chalks it up to the .01% commission that we are so generously offered. No need to bother bringing up issues of any kind with management. they will listen but won't act or change in any capacity. I purchase few clothes on as final sale, when I got them were worn, tag off, and tag re-added when I received it and not indicated as such in the sale. When I called, I confirmed with the agent that you guys would take these back as a one time exception. After few weeks, the representative stated that they will not refund those clothes back and I need to spend 15 mail fee to send back clothes. This is a beautiful store that obviously wants to be Nordstrom. Sadly the customer service will never be even close. I returned some shoes I had purchased online because I wanted to find replacements in the store. The gentleman who processed my return made it crystal clear that he was most unhappy doing so. He never even asked if he could help me with anything else. I suspect he realized that he had gone too far in his attempts to shame me for wasting his minute with a return. I gave three stars instead of one because the people upstairs who helped me with a wedding gift were absolutely lovely as were the ladies in customer service who wrapped it. read more

I do about 75% of my shopping online these days. Better selection and usually free shipping. I do miss a real shopping experience that includes coming across something unexpected or seeing thing in person. So, I do venture out for that experience. I had heard from my Nebraska girlfriend that Von Maur was on par with Nordstrom, so this I had to see. I knew it would have to be REALLY good to make me drive this far south. My first impression was that it reminded me of Jacobsons (formerly in the Macy's Town Center space) except with more merchandise. I found myself filtering through a lot of unfashionable merchandise (which you will see in my pictures) to get to the fashionable stuff. Yes, they did carry a lot of brands that KC Nordstrom carries and even impressed me with by having a Kooba purse collection, but then they also have cases upon cases of the predictable logo bags. Kudos for carrying Kendra Scott jewelry, but then they negate that with cheap looking costume pieces. There were some sexy Cole Haan boots but they were juxtaposed next to a huge collection of Merrell and Born comfort shoes. Enough with the comfort shoes...every store in KC has them...do we actually need more?? Cosmetics were in line with Nordstrom and Dillards brands and you will find what you need. The men's department was the most similar to Nordstrom. They carried all the big belly golfer (Tommy Bahama) men styles and across the way was an obnoxious Ed Hardy explosion. But in between, their was Kenneth Cole, Cole Haan, Andrew Marc, Penguin and Calvin Klein. The store was clean and new. The sales staff were super friendly. The parking lot was huge. I don't know what is bugging me. I guess I would just rather buy things in a store that has a larger sense of fabulousness. I want style through and through and somehow I don't really feel that way when I am in this store. As a customer, you could just as easily walk out the door with the most hideous outfit ever. Looking around, I tend to think many people will unless they are expert fashion hunters. Let's face it, most people are not that inspired. read more

Von Maur was my absolute go to for everything...shoes, athletic wear, juniors, men's, etc. Their cu service was top notch and their selection was amazing. As a frequent shopper, I'm quite disappointed with the level of service I have experienced since they have reopened. I recently tried to return 3 items with the tags attached and no receipt. Because my credit card was changed, the items were not able to be located in the system. There were 2 different managers called. Neither was available to come to Customer service. I was told the best they could do was offer me $9 for a dress I paid 90 for. The other item was unable to be returned. I understand their store policy is changing, but that is not until August 1st. Guess I will be going back to Nordstrom. read more

I love to come here for seasonal home decorations. They always have an excellent selection and after the holidays they do great sales as well. Great service, and one of the best department stores in the area. I bought my wife a wallet here for Christmas, and after a few months, there was a rip in the leather where the wallet folded. It was defective, but since it was several months since I purchased it, I figured we were out of luck. I also could not find the receipt. We went and talked to the manager of the handbag/wallet department, and she took the time to look up the wallet on the computer, which took a while since it was no longer a wallet they sold, and we didn't have the original tag for it (it was with the receipt). Once she found the item on the computer, I was able to swipe my card, and she was able to bring up my receipt. They took it back no questions asked, and we ended up getting my wife a really amazing Hammitt wallet to replace the old one on the manager's recommendation. This is my most favorite place to shop for many reasons. 1) The sales staff is beyond amazing. They are friendly, are always willing to go out of their way for you, and always are around, but not pushy. 2) The amenities that Von Maur offers are second to none: They ship for free from other stores, their credit card is interest free (for real), they gift wrap for free, hem for free, and offer cheap alterations, ship gifts for free... I can go on. 3) The store is clean, spacious, offers something for everyone, from your trendy True Religion and Miss Me to Pendleton for the older folks. They have a pianist play most of the time, and their restrooms are really clean. The womens' lounge even includes a "mother's room". I am not a mom, but I bet that would be nice. 4) The DEALS are great! They mark things down pretty quickly and at good amounts on Wednesdays. I have gotten Cole Haan shoes ($178 retail) for $40. That is simply amazing, and a very common occurrence. And just because something is on sale, does not mean that they won't wrap, ship, hem, ship store to store, etc. Yes I am in Love, and I might as well be their spokesperson. I needed a suit for a last minute interview. Having no luck at several stores, I called the Von Maur. The sales woman was very helpful. I described what I wanted, she asked for my size so she could look around on the floor for things which fit my needs. She told me that they had a wide variety of suites in my size. I thanked her and said I would come in the next day around 1:00 pm. When I arrived, the lady working the counter was not the person I spoke with the day before, but she knew I was coming. I was taken back to the dressing room, and there was a rack filled with every suit they had in my size! I didn't have to waste any time walking around the store picking out items I liked, I could immediately begin trying on clothes. I ended up buying two suits. A black one to wear to the interview, and the other one because it was too good of a deal to pass up. I got a grey suit jacket, slacks, and a skirt for less than $50, and they hemmed the jacket and slacks for free! I've been back several times, and they always have something to suit my needs (ugh...bad pun, but you get the point). You can also find really good deals if you look. It's true that a lot of things can be pricy, but sales abound. The sales staff here are very courteous to everyone. I can't tell you how many times I've been to other department stores, and felt like the sales associates looked down on me or implied that I was a waste of their time. It was refreshing to feel like the sales force at Von Maur really just were there to help you if you needed it, and didn't try to force a sale. Von Maur offers free shipping online and when you shop at the store. When shipping a gift, let the associate know. They will ring it up seperately from your other purchases because your item(s) are not taxed and again, shipped free. They will even gift wrap it! How cool is that? They also have interest free store card. No interest ever...gotta love that! Von Maur has the same brands as Nordstrom and pretty much mirrors Nordstrom minus the coffee shop and eating area. Again, I came here since it was nearby Scheel's and my wife would be interested to take a look. She was amazed by the purse selection and it was huge. I mean there were 2 floors and also a ladies' lounge. She took a tour and found it amazing. It's own bathroom and sorta relaxation room to try your clothes, etc. There is the same sort of atmosphere at most Von Maur with a piano player in the middle playing on the piano. read more

I stopped here with a friend after lunch down south because I'd heard it was a nice store similar to Nordstroms. In fact, I felt like I was walking into Nordstroms when we walked in. Only a post-apocalyptic Nordstroms. There were 5 other cars in the parking lot and I think we were the only people in the store. Awkward. I perused the shoe section, a couple of clothes sections and the little shoe sale side room. Because we were the only people in there, I feared the worst: over eager sales people greeting me at every turn with a "Can I help you find something?". But the sales people were nice and didn't hover. Not sure I'd ever drive all the way out to 135th just to go there, but if I were already down there and needed to stop at a department store, I'd stop in. read more

Nice, upscale store with a self storage business beside it! WTH? This center has got the dumbest ownership on earth. Who would want to shop or dine at a shopping center with a self storage (with a big glowing obnoxious red sign towering over the shopping center) in the middle of it? If I were one of the nice restaurants or shops in this Center, I would immediately demand a 90% rent reduction. I know it's hard to lease given the economic slowdown and already insane shopping center rents, but this will hurt the centers image now and in the future (tremendously). SAD. read more

Von Maur is a high-end department store located at Corbin Park in Overland Park. The store's footage is not so vast as to make you feel overwhelm by the store-size. It manages to be upscale without being pretentious; anyone will feel comfortable shopping here. Just remember to bring you credit card or maybe a couple of credit cards. A nice touch is the lounge area in the center of the first floor of the store, the lounge plays host to a grand piano where on occasion a pianist entertains shoppers with classical music. A few disadvantages to Von Maur are the lack of variety and the poor service. The store has an array of departments however the available selection in each department is limited. The biggest drawback with Von Maur is the lack of sale clerks, there were only a modest number of clerks and in most departments there were no clerks. The few clerks on the floor were too busy chatting with one another to be bothered with helping the customers. Von Maur was a below average shopping experience. read more

This department store excels at customer service. The displays are well organized and aesthetically pleasing. The store itself is beautiful as well. It has two levels with a good selection of clothing, shoes, accessories, and seasonal items. Keep an eye out for the clearance sections. There are great deals that can be found. Every employee we encountered was friendly and treated us like family. This place also gift wraps for free. The gift wrapping area is located on the second level next to customer service; while you wait, there is free coffee and hot cocoa in the lounge. When they didn't have an item I wanted she offered to order it. She called me Wednesday to say it had arrived at the store and she was shipping it to me and it arrived today!!! That was fast! Ask for Leslie on the second floor for ladies dresses. My wife has been looking for a dress for my son's upcoming wedding. She has looked high and low and finally found a dress at Von Maur with the help of Leslie on the second floor (not to be confused with first floor Leslie who is probably equally as nice). First of all, Leslie is very engaging and asked a lot of questions before showing my wife any dresses. What are the colors? When is the wedding? What color is the Brides dress? All these questions so that the dress will match and look good in the pictures. "You're going to be looking at that picture on the Mantel for years and you want the dress to blend in with the Bride and Groom." No where do you find that kind of attention to detail and to the customer. Then she picks out a couple dresses to try on- takes pictures for you on your phone so you can view later. Don't have your size or color she thinks will look nice on you- no problem- she'll call all over to find the dress and have it shipped in for you to try on. And you are under no obligation or pressure to buy. But we all know you will. Why?
