I was referred to Big John's Eatery by a local, and they absolutely steered us right. My cousins from St. Louis and I stopped in on a Wednesday mid-morning. There was a healthy crowd, but we were seated immediately and the service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is clean, bright and contemporary. We started with Bloody Marys and passion fruit mimosas--all excellent. (Although they don't salt the cocktail rims, so sodium enthusiasts beware.) Breakfast and lunch are served all day, and pretty much everything on the menu sounded good. We went with the oxtail and grits, biscuits and gravy, and avocado toast, plus breakfast potatoes, sausage links and hash brown casserole. Exceptional. All of it. The oxtail was fall-apart tender, with a rich gravy over creamy, flavorful grits that had exactly the right consistency. The biscuits were huge and fluffy with a good crumble. And the avocado toast wasn't some sad little schmear of avocado--it came piled high with avocado, tomato and onion. Actually, everything was generously portioned. Come hungry and be prepared to roll out the door. One thing I especially appreciated: they were working on improvements to the menu that day and asking customers to try and give feedback on a potential new corned beef hash dish. There's something great about a locally owned restaurant actively engaging its customers and always looking for ways to get even better. My family and I visited "Big John's Eatery" and West Palm Beach for the first time and it was wonderful 7/23/26 to celebrate my daughter's 23rd birthday. Omg, the food was amazing from the French toast, special order of blueberry pancakes, drinks, breakfast bowl. Our waitress was excellent ( who was also celebrating her birthday working too)she checked in on us from time to time. After hearing so many great things about this place, I decided to stop by with my family right before Mother's Day and see what all the buzz was about. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and I loved the old school music playing throughout the restaurant. We were seated right away, and the service was friendly and attentive from start to finish. Wait time ! Is wayyyyyyyyy tooo long. 1.5hrs Upon walking in the restaurant is very clean and good temperature not too cold. I have come here twice in the last couple of months for breakfeast food! The portions are good and the food is well seasoned. Last month I had got the oxtail and grits and this past week I got the shrimp and grits with oxtail gravy. The grits were creamy and well seasoned. The oxtail was good as well. I just widh that it was shredded oxtail meat instead of bone in. For the past week, I had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp Was cooked a little too well and a bit salty. What a special spot! After a long, emotionally trying week, our family simply wanted to sit together, have breakfast, and enjoy each other and somehow we ended up exactly where we needed to be. Lauren took such wonderful care of us. We had several dietary needs, and she was incredibly patient, kind, and helpful. The atmosphere, the music, and especially the food were amazing fresh, perfectly seasoned, and clearly made with care. Then we learned the owners' story, and it moved us deeply. Hearing about the people behind this place their courage, perseverance, and belief in their dream made us appreciate the quality of what they've created even more. Who knew that 30 years after I was jamming to SWV in the 90s, I'd be listening to them while eating one of the most satisfying breakfasts I'd had in a long time. Big John's Eatery is big on flavor and has such a great uplifting vibe. The menu had so many great dishes to choose from that it was hard to decide. The peach cobbler French toast and hashbrown casserole spoke directly to my tastebuds, and neither disappointed. The French toast was fluffy and not too sweet, which was the perfect vessel for a really sweet peach cobbler topping (including cobbler crumbles throughout). I didn't even need to add syrup. For all of those lovers of peach cobbler, this dish is it. And the hashbrown casserole was the perfect savory side to go along with it. They were cheesy gooey and although I was full, I couldn't stop eating them. Big John's Eatery is a very popular and busy restaurant, and rightfully so. It was a Sunday afternoon outing, and as typical for this day and time at many restaurants, we had an extended wait (an hour). The restaurant is relatively small - some might say cramped - so it's not able to seat a lot of people at once. But the hostess was very friendly and promised to get us seated as soon as possible. Once we got our table, we were already ready to order. I decided to try a mimosa. They have bottomless mimosas for $25, or $9 each. I only ended up having two. Mine was a special made concoction with coconut and some other flavors that our waitress decided on. It was nice to have the personalized recommendation. To eat we got the chicken and waffles (red velvet waffle and tenders), oxtail quesadillas, and kids breakfast bowl. Everything was good enough. I do think the chicken and waffles were the best thing we had. Looking around the restaurant, I saw some other appetizing offerings that maybe I'll try on my next visit. The quesadillas were good, but not as flavorful as I expected. The kid's breakfast bowl was a great serving size for anyone, I think. Overall, it was a good trip. This place is banging for brunch! Who doesn't love some southern food like fried chicken and waffles? We came for the 2nd time this past weekend while meeting some family close by. We had to wait over 30 minutes but it was worth it. The biscuits are fluffy and never over cooked. The chicken is delicious served with the waffles as well as the rice and beans combo. I came in for the first time on Valentine's Day for brunch and I'm happy we did. Everything from the vibes to the service was top notch. Surprisingly there wasn't a huge wait time but reservations and definitely recommend. Now if you get anything from this review is that you must order the banana coconut bourbon French toast! I had a great experience at Big John's. I had terrible deciding what to order. I had a BLT per the recommendation of the waitress. A BLT is always good enough but when it's great there is a special love that develops. That's what happened to me. Everything was fresh and plentiful. We had a very good lunch here on a busy Saturday afternoon. The place was packed when we got there -- during lunch hour. We'd thought maybe they wouldn't be so busy on a weekend but turns out we were wrong. There was a wait of about a half hour to 40 minutes for a table, but we were able to snag a couple open seats at the bar right away. The bar tender/server was also handling drinks and waiting on other tables. Still service was okay, considering. Everyone was very friendly. My husband ordered their breakfast bowl. He chose grits for his base. On top of this were 2 eggs (he ordered them over easy) with bacon crumbles and cheese. It was supposed to have sausage, as well, but he doesn't remember it having any. He added a touch of cholula sauce to spice it up. In any case, he liked his dish even though his eggs came out over medium, that is, not as runny as he would have liked. I got their shrimp and grits dish. On top of the creamy grits were five grilled shrimp. The shrimp were topped with a sauce that had diced tomatoes in it. On top of the sauce was grated cheese. The dish was tasty though a bit more sauce would have made it even nicer. My husband got his meal served first. He was halfway done when I finally received my food. So just expect this. The food was worth the wait even though he then had to sit watching me eat. Our neighboring seat mates were trying a bit of everything -- including enjoying their limitless mimosas which come in several flavors. They told us the passion fruit drink was the best. They'd ordered oxtail, peach French toast, and chicken and waffles -- all to share. All dishes looked quite good. I'm sure we will be back to try more of their menu. Saw Big John's on youtube and decided to give them a try. We arrived before 11 on a Wednesday and were able to get a seat right away. It's on the smaller side with limited seating. All of the TVs were on ESPN but the overhead music playing was good. Received our beverages in a timely manner but the food took much longer than expected based on the amount of customers inside. Ordered chicken and waffles and biscuits and gravy. When our food arrived the waffles were cool and the eggs were also cool. The chicken strips that accompany the waffles seemed like strips you get frozen from a bag and they were just ok. While we were finishing our meals, it filled up very fast with about 10 people waiting. Several tables were not filled to capacity. They should consider more 2 setting tables than having 2 people taking up a whole 4 setting table. One lady even took a whole 5 setting table near the front. The place has 2 bathrooms but customers could only use one because the other was "staff only". Line for that started to get pretty long when we were leaving, too. Overall it was an average experience. May give it another shot to try the oxtail grits. read more

I wanted chicken and waffles and I had this on my list of places to try. The service was excellent. Very friendly, polite, and professional. I ordered the regular waffles with fried chicken quarters. Omg the fried chicken was so good, fresh and tasty! The waffles weee not as great they tasted doughy and uncooked. I ate the chicken and the waitress asked me about the waffles and I reluctantly told her. She immediately said she would bring me another serving, while it was better it was missing the crunch.
