I called an hour and a half ahead of time because I was driving through and wanted to know how far ahead I should call in my order as I would be in a hurry. I told the guy that answered the phone 2-3 times that I could call closer to when I would be passing through -but he said it was okay to leave the order then. I told him the exact time I would be there. When I arrived, it had not even been started. They put fresh meat on the grill for my 3 sandwiches -and it was finished pretty quickly. But then the employee helping me took TWO of my sandwiches off the counter in front of me to put through the drive through. That was really crummy since I'd already been waiting and was told the sandwiches would be finished when I got there. Then, she packaged up my sauces but left out 2/3 of my request -either she forgot or didn't want to fill the sauce cups bc they were out. The sandwiches are good, but I highly recommend the drive through and check your bags to make sure you get everything. Finally, watch the expiration dates on the big to-go pre-packaged bottles. read more

My first time at a Big John restaurant. I've been really wanting a good Philly Cheesesteak sandwich lately and this is really as close as it gets in Michigan. I've always seen their commercials up North but never had the chance to visit one. The staff were super friendly and helpful here at the Cedar Rd Lansing store and it was great to watch the cook make everything fresh. I was worried that the steak wouldn't be seasoned right or be dry like so many other imitations I've tried at other places that claim to have a cheesesteak. But I needn't had worry as their ribeye was chopped very thin, was very flavorful and had plenty of juices and seasoning. If you're looking for a cheesesteak, per se, maybe ask for some extra provolone cheese - but otherwise this was a wonderful working man's sandwich and I really like the atmosphere. I ordered the 8 inch Steak, Cheese & Mushroom Sub sandwich (#4) for $6.70 along with the Chili, Cheese Waffle fries ($1.80) and a 20 oz. Soft Drink ($2.25). Total after tax was $11.40. The steak sub had excellent, meaty and juicy flavor that was complimented well by the cheese and mushrooms. I enjoyed it very much. The chili on the fries lacked any heat, and the waffle fries themselves lacked body and texture. If I go back again I would just stick with the sandwich. I would probably get the foot long and just fill up on that. read more

As a native of New York, I was unfamiliar with this establishment. Boy I wish we had these places closer to home! I had the original steak and onion sandwich. The Roll was fresh and crispy on the inside and tender on the outside, a sign of a masterful sandwich. Must have with the red sauce! If they bottle that stuff, I want to buy a bottle! I had seen this place while driving across the state before. Being from the Philadalphia area I am always curious when I see Steak Sandwich places. So I stopped here and guess what? It was pretty good. It doesn't hold a candle to Gino's or Pat's or even Tony Luke's in Philly but it was decent for mid Michigan. Roll was of a good consistency to hold the meat. ( not to hard, not to soft). Meat was tender, well chopped and flavorful. Cheese was American which is not a bad thing altogether. I am an advocate of Jersey Mike's which still beats this place but the prices were fair, so there you go. read more

Whole crew got locked out watching another crew eating inside, we were told by management after waiting behind the door for 10 minutes to go through the drive window. We normally go to this place 2-3 times a week but our whole company will no longer go here. Steak and onion with red sauce, please. Easily a contender for best Philly (-ish) sub I've had. Tons of good meat, grilled fresh. Just the right amount of cheese makes it moist and delicious. The red sauce makes it spicy and adds body to the flavor. The bun is strong enough to hold it together without being super chewy. It's a big, melty dream. He started by asking the right questions right from the script you know the ones " hi" " how are you today" thank you for choosing big John's can I take your order" then I said hold on a second my girlfriend hasn't decided yet what she wanted and he replied " go ahead take your time" so once we figured out everything and I told my order he then got loose and went off script and began talking to me as if we knew each other and culture and the environment where the store was located was just perfect.
