I got a Reuben sandwich and fries, and he got turkey breast, onion rings, and caramelized brussels sprouts. My sandwich was really good and hot, and the fries were actually some of the best I've had. My boyfriend's turkey was good, the onion rings were sooo crispy, and the brussels sprouts were glazed in a really yummy asian sauce. He said they were his favorite thing abt the meal. I plan to go back with my sister, maybe for karaoke night.

There are NO deli's that I aware of in Grand Rapids. Once upon a time there was at least one that…read morewas pretty good. Long gone. If you want corned beef or pastrami, greasy grocery store deli meat just doesn't cut it. Checking Yelp delis. I looked in every direction and decided to drive to East Lansing as my corned beef withdrawal pains were getting worse. Stateside Deli sits in a shopping plaza a few miles southeast from MSU. When we arrived both booths and tables were available just after the lunch rush. Just guessing, i'd say there are between 25-30 tables and booths. Even though I didn't need to, I studied the menu knowing that I would probably only get corned beef or pastrami. The soups however looked great as well. I ordered my corned beef extra lean partially as a test and mostly because that is how I like it. Served on toasted rye, that' is exactly how it came. My first bites were euphoric. It only got better. My wife ordered half a sandwich (tuna melt on wheat) along with matzah ball soup. She loved hers as well. I can tell because both the bowl and plate were empty when she was done. She will often not finish if the food is "just OK" Service was excellent and "seamless". One server saw my drink almost empty and quickly returned with another. Another server asked if we needed anything as she was walking by. Our server also kept checking with us to see if we needed anything or if we were enjoying our lunch. If this is the closest deli, so be it. We will be back as often as practical. Only drawback is the hour drive each way and approximately $28 worth of gas.

We usually order Hungry Howie's as soon as we're in town. It's tradition when we come back to visit…read morefamily. Not any more. It hasn't been the best recently and crappy attitudes don't help. The wait was longer than quoted by about 20 minutes and they didn't include the lettuce and tomato that was specifically ordered with one of the subs. Not the end of the world, but the attitude from the call taker was pretty poor. Don't make a customer feel "less than" or demanding because they want something how it was ordered and you made a mistake. My wife called and was treated this way. An hour later and we still saw no lettuce and tomato. Another call and more attitude from the same call taker. A manager got on the phone that time and assured her it would be on the way soon. eventually it got there, but it was too late for my wife's dinner by then. We understand when a restaurant gets busy. However, when you make a mistake, learn to own up to it and do your best to fix it immediately. We shouldn't be waiting in a queue or rotation for you to correct something dumb.

I was not trained on how to use the sterilization sink. Maybe people use gloves. Your delivery driver is paid 5.05 an hour and doesn't get that delivery fee. They are supposed to get .55 cents a mile, but when you do the math, that's impossible. The managers steal tips from drivers. They say you don't have to go to dangerous places, but insist you go to places because they are too "sketchy" for Door Dash to deliver to. I was hired as a driver, but spent much of my time washing dishes, which I didn't get paid tips for. Hands down the WORST job I have ever had and made me scared to ever eat there again.

While I waited the fifteen minutes for the one sandwich, it gave me time to look around at how dirty it was in there. There were large clumps of dust on the large overhead light fixtures that I could see clearly. The ropes that these fixtures hang from were also covered in thick, clumps of dust. It looks and feels like "I don't care" in there. When listening to them chat about whatever I kept thinking ...instead of chatting "How about if 1 or 2 of you get out here and clean up the place".
