I love a good food truck and this one didn't disappoint. Had an ahi bowl with mango and a killer sauce. Nice bit of heat with a sweetness that balance everything together. Loved this food truck! We got to experience Big Island Bowls at a lacrosse tournament in Orlando. Normally tournament food (unless you bring your own) is not the healthiest. Having the option of Big Island Bowls was a refreshing change! The menu is straightforward. There are several varieties of Poke Bowls and and Açaí Bowls. You can even get a Vegan Poke Bowl made with a whole Hass avocado! I ordered the Teriyaki Poke: Tuna marinated in Teriyaki Sauce over jasmine rice with avocado, chopped cucumber, green onion, & sesame seeds. So unbelievingly fresh! The veggies were vibrant and crunchy! The fish and rice were perfect. I think this was better than any Poke Bowl I have had in a restaurant! Husband and I shared an Acai Bowl. I ordered the Waterman with granola, bananas, blueberries, shredded coconut, & honey. After ordering I mentioned that I regretted not getting "The Outrigger " because it had pineapple, and the owner immediately put some pineapple in my bowl. My son ordered the Hibiscus Bowl. Among other ingredients it had Goji Berries and he loved it! Super fresh fruit, tasty acai, and a huge bowl. It can easily be shared! My son and I also tried the Tropical Paradise drink (pineapple, mango, & cherry juice). Normally I don't get these drinks because they are too sweet or have added sugar. This drink tasted like pure fruit juice. Delicious treats on a hot afternoon! The owner was so gracious and friendly. So was the young lady working there. They were small for the price, the acai was 50% acai powder and 50% ice, the fruit was not very fresh, and the overall taste was just meh. The ambiance had a cool vibe though. We have had amazing, fresh acai bowls in Florida, Las Vegas, and other locations so we are admittedly kinda acai snobs. I don't know if they changed the recipe or were rushed because of the holiday, but I couldn't even finish my bowl and had to throw it away. This is a super cute little truck, sitting in a circle of food trucks with nice seating and corn hole to play. The girls didn't seem happy that I made them get up and go into the truck to help me. I was trying to ask what to get but everything was "it's good". I ended up picking the Pacific powerhouse because I like an Acai/Kale mix. An entire acai bowl can serve as a light to medium meal, but a half bowl is a healthy snack. They are generally served with granola and various fruit and/or nut toppings. They offer almond milk base as well as an apple juice base for the actual acai part of the bowl. Smoothies are also offered. I've lived in St. Augustine for many years, so I'm pretty confident in saying that I know a lot about the cuisine offered here! With that being said, Big Island Bowls is one of my favorite joints on the island. Nestled by a popular taco shop, the truck is easy to miss for tourists or locals who don't make a habit of visiting Anastasia. Still, the truck is brightly colored and well-decorated: there is a cute sitting area where you can relax while you wait and munch. The service is very good- I've been many times, and the attendants are always accommodating and polite while they help with the order. The food itself is incredible. There are many pre-made options for a newbie, but if you so wish, the employees will help you design a bowl that you can be happy with. The fruit they use in their bowls is crisp and sweet, and the honey and granola mixed into the bowls make a great thing amazing. A full bowl can serve as lunch, but for the more peckish among you, a half bowl can be ordered as a snack. There are smoothies available as well, which are also excellent- but if it's your first time attending, I definitely recommending getting a bowl just to dip your toes in the water... so to speak. Big Island Bowls is a really great place to bring a friend after the beach or go to breakfast before you start your day. I want to like this place. I love açaí bowls and they have a cute set up. Every time I've gone though I get the slowest service. I mean 20-30 min for an açaí bowl. When I walked up no one was there. In the past they just forgot my order. Maybe they forgot it again even though I moved to a spot within eye site knowing if I wasn't there when they called the Order I'd probably not receive it. Extremely over priced. I paid $30 for 2 bowls. The bowls are icy and very small portions. The flavor of the acai is non existent. If I hadn't paid $15 a bowl I would throw them in the trash. They are not good-AT ALL. I honestly wish I had just driven to JuiceTap instead.
