Big Hammock Brewery is NOT a BREWERY, nor is it a big hammock. What it is, is a brew pub with what looked like some scrumptious food. Unfortunately for me I was looking for a brewery experience and Big Hammock is not that. They do have a good amount of local craft beers on tap which is a definite plus. They just didn't have any of their own beer. Maybe they are brewing, but if they are not, they should change the brewery in their name to brew pub because the name is definitely misleading. It is really awkward making this review, because I really did not get the full experience. I walked in, looked around, checked out the beer menu, asked if they had any of their own beers. When that answer was "no" I left. The end.
We visited in December '24 and have this on the top of the list for our 2025 visit! The brews are interesting and delicious. The staff are super chill and the food is amazing! It was packed when we were there, but we were able to find 2 seats at the bar, which was perfect. We got to watch the short order magic happening in that tiny kitchen. Because we got to watch the food prep, we ended up ordering several dishes to split. I'd call it Asian fusion. We had a ramen bowl, some bao buns. It's a nice vibe. Murals on the wall, and doors that roll up for inside/outside service when the weather is nice. They do offer food takeout, so if you can't find a seat, have a beer while they put your food together to eat at home.
It's our second time in Ocala and we remembered this place from three years ago. Glad to be back. We came on a Thursday which was $12 ramen! We got this and paired it with a 3 Son's and Bold City Duke's Brown beer. Drinks were so delicious and paired well with our shoyu ramen. Shout out, Andrew for being server and literally running the floor. Can't wait to come back!
Definitely go here and order the special. If the special doesn't sound appealing my go to is the con you bing scallion pancake or the ramen with pot roast. I came here to say the mahi specials was THE BEST MAHI I have ever had in FL. It was cooked to perfection served over succotash and the sauce was a delicious coconut lime. Big Hammock also has a good rotating draft list and also feature some of their own brews. Check this place out!
By all means not traditional pho, but hey if that's what you're going for then blame yourself for going to a brewery in Ocala! When approached as pho-inspired but very much its own thing, it was delicious. We loved the bao, and my husband's pot roast sandwich was super yummy. They had some interesting brews on tap. I will say not a huge selection if you're into darker beers, porters, and stouts. But IPAs, sours, and ciders, they've got you. Service was friendly and fast. Cozy atmosphere. Great location.
First impression of the place: it felt like a brewery had taken over a small comfort food joint. Right off the bat, my small dog was denied entry by management, even though they offer an outdoor patio for pets and humans. Unfortunately, it was a bit chilly for that today. Inside, the tight open kitchen gave us a glimpse of the grilling action alongside a few pots and pans. The host was very friendly, offering us tastes of their craft brews. Both the Unforeseen Creatures (5% ABV) and the Destihl Apricot (6% ABV) were well-balanced and tasty sours. The prices of the beers were incredibly reasonable, too. I appreciated the easy-to-read beer ledger on the wall, clearly displaying ABV percentages and prices.
I'm so happy that I decided to stop by...here's why (and it's a true story): I had just ordered some food from another place in Ocala and when they told me it was going to take about 25 minutes, I figured I'd stop in to Big Hammock for a quick beer. I was expecting it to be a brewery with all their own beers but what I got was even better. While I don't believe they do make any of their beers, they did have a great selection to choose from. I was dead set on having one beer and leaving but once I saw the menu I quickly decided to ghost the other place I ordered from (I know--party foul ). The menu was filled with Asian-inspired dishes like bao buns, ramen, and scallion pancakes which is not something I've seen in Ocala but was very welcome, indeed. Alas, I didn't order any of that but instead ordered the highly recommended special of the night which was a Thai basil inspired beef and rice dish served with green beans and OMG. The beef was tender and flavorful, the rice was soft sticky perfection, and the green beans were perfectly cooked. The dish itself was a flavor bomb with a soft heat that built up to a climax that definitely required some water and made me sweat a little....but damn, it was delicious. The best part of all was how excited the team was for me to eat their food! The service was top-notch and pure love. Nothing makes me feel better about dining somewhere than staff that actually believes in the menu and experience. Great job Big Hammock. Some practical stuff to note: this place is located in the heart of downtown Ocala but street parking is honestly a breeze here. The vibe is casual and I would say family friendly too. Totally my kind of place nonetheless considering they had the dog show on! Overall--I've said enough--it's obvious, Big Hammock Brewery is a must-try!
Big Hammock is a nice small shop near the square in Ocala. I would call this more of a taproom and Ramen shop than a brewery, as Big Hammock usually only has one or two on their menu. I have been here before, but this time I was focused on getting Ramen,. When I asked Andy if I should have regular Ramen or the dry Ramen (forget name right now) and he told me it was $9.99 Ramen night (Thursday) so he would order the regular Ramen if he was me. The Ramen is not the best I have ever had, but it is sold. Even more so considering a place like Ocala is not where you expect to find a decent bowl of Ramen. Andy Made Me Do It IPA was also very tasty and I appreciated their beer. In a previous trip, I was more underwhelmed. This time much better. I want to go back and try the pancakes and the bao buns.
Think of this place as an outstanding Ramen house with a great tap list that also happens to brew a beer or two. We had a sampling of potstickers, bao buns, and ramen and everything was great! The ramen was definitely the star of the show though! The emphasis was strongly on the MEAT, making for some of the most filling ramen I've ever had! (Vegetarians don't fret, they also have excellent vegetarian options) They have a very eclectic set of taps representing multiple styles from multiple breweries! I discovered a Tampa brewery (King State) that has become one of my new favorites: https://www.yelp.com/biz/king-state-tampa?hrid=ykXuvt4san3WHQ2SVbBHKw The only bummer is that they only had one of their own beers on tap and it was a brown ale, which isn't really my style these days. Absolutely worth a visit, give them a try!
The ramen, AMAZING! The service and beer, contentful and attentive. The ambiance, like a cozy cool spot that you can swing on in to have a bite and beer. I was on a date and it was great.
I usually dine in. Tonight I got ramen to go. It was busy because of the art walk on the square. I thought it would be a long wait, but my food was out before I finished my beer. Brought it home and devoured my pork belly ramen. I love big hammock. Food is so good and fresh. Even when they are busy, it's worth the short wait. For to-go orders, they package your broth separate from the noodles/egg/veggies. So nothing is soggy when you get home. They will give you to-go cups of yellow saracha sauce and red chili oil if you ask. This place never ever disappoints me and my belly is always warm and happy afterwards.

This was such am amazing restaurant! Tucked in the corner of downtown Ocala, this diner style restaurant is just what we needed! When I asked about beer, the server, Andrew, asked what kind I normally drank, then offered me selections that would suit my palate. I chose the Cream Ale and was not disappointed! It tasted great and went down smooth. Andrew went even further to help us first-timers make food selections. My husband chose the ramen bowl and I chose the rice bowl. Again, this did not disappoint! When visiting a restaurant, sure, you go there for the food and the beer, both of which were amazing! But what takes the experience to the next levels are the people that set the vibe. We, without a doubt, will be back to Big Hammock Brewery and Bites! read more

This place is truly great. My mom and I live in different cities and try our best to meet up here and there half way, and this time was in Ocala. We tried to do some research on some local spots but a lot seemed to be closing early due to covid, and we happened to stumble upon this place. The online hours said they were closing soon, but the bartenders took us in and didn't seem to care at all. I got ramen and my mom got the bao bun appetizer, and they both were delicious. The beer was an in-house brew, upon recommendation from Andrew, and it was super good! Everyone that worked there was super nice and hospitable, and we will be returning back to Ocala, specifically to Big Hammock. read more

Great service. The owner is great and you can tell he cares about each customers experience. I had the rice bowl with pot roast and it was 10/10. We also tried the Pressed Porker sandwich and the flavor was perfect. Slow Roasted Pork Butt, House BBQ sauce, cheddar, Mandarin Coleslaw, Pickles and Fried Shallots!! This place is much more than a brewery and I wish we tried it sooner. We will definitely be back! Other other read more

My husband and I stopped here after picking up our new camper. We stumbled upon this brewery. We are from up north and not familiar with the are at all. We read some quick reviews and could not resist coming here for a Saturday lunch. The people that work here are absolutely amazing. The beers we tasted (4 out of several, that's all we had time for) were excellent! I wish we could have stayed longer! The thing that makes this brewery special is that they serve really great and unique food-cooked to order. I highly recommend stopping by to try the Bao (my first time) and any and all of their beers. I wish I had time to try their ramen! You will not be disappointed at all! read more

GREAT PLACE. I was on a road trip and stopped in Ocala for lunch. I noticed this place had Bao tacos and that is a draw for us. We tried the tacos and the quesadilla and the Asian sandwich. All were wonderful. We also asked for all their Florida beers which might have annoyed some servers but our guy, Samuel, was awesome, friendly and helpful. Im from the SF Bay Area and this place would do great anywhere. You can tell someone knows what's up. Kudos and if I'm ever back in Ocala I'll be back! read more

Stopped at this cute brewery and had some of the best food I've ever had! The waitstaff was so nice and our server opened up the window/bar seating for us. The panini pressed sandwiches are S+ tier, if I was local I'd be coming here all the time. The bao was to die for and the paninis were so warm and crunchy!! read more

I saw this place on Tiktok and I thought I would check it out. At first, I wasn't expecting much because Ocala doesn't have that many good restaurants, but was I wrong. This place exceeded my expectations. I got the today's special: Hot dog with sautéed stuff on top. It was so delicious. I also got the ramen with pork belly, bao pork belly and other stuff. Everything was super delicious. The service was super nice. Our server gave us a free beer on the house. Everything was perfect. The whole experience was pleasant. Price was reasonable too. Would definitely recommend read more

Came to Big Hammock to try something new while visiting a friend in Ocala! I'm glad we deviated from the normal and tried this place out. We came around 12:30 on a Thursday and they had a few tables occupied. We sat down and ordered water and beers. Their draft list is smaller but they did have a little bit of everything for everyone. I got the Pilsner and it was OK! For lunch I got the pork belly bao buns (amazing) and potstickers (really great)! The bao buns were pork belly and delicious and I could have had 7 more. This was definitely a chill vibe of a place and I'm excited to see more local businesses open up in Ocala! read more

A nice place to spend some time with a few nice brews and to nosh on some great food. It has a comfortable atmosphere and pleasantly attentive staff. It has high tables, standing and sitting bars and pillow covered benches with tables. We tried the appetizers of scallion pancakes and the potstickers, both were awesomely delicious and filling. I had a ramen bowl with miso broth and a huge chunk of amazing smoked pork butt. There were goodies of bok choy, cremini mushrooms, matchstick bamboo shoots, scallions, nori, a perfectly soy sauce boiled egg, and the requisite ramen noodles which were cooked just right. Goldilocks would be impressed. The beer selection was about a dozen great choices. The sandwiches and salads and the rest of the menu items will have to wait for our future visits. Stop in and be treated to a pleasantly satisfying respite. read more

If you want the best craft beer selection paired with the most unique food in Ocala visit this place. The ramen bowls are amazing! Pretzel with beer cheese and brown mustard makes you feel like you're sitting in a German pub. My wife got the pressed pork sandwich with mandarin slaw and it can't be beat. Service was amazing and the staff is so knowledgeable about the menu and beer pairings. Thanks Jason!! read more

Delicious beer, delicious food, great service! Ocala's downtown needs more unique, local restaurants/breweries like this. With indoor/outdoor seating, if you're looking for a simple sandwich/salad or something a little different like a ramen bowl, Big Hammock is the spot for you! I live out of state now, but Ocala is my hometown, and I will definitely be coming back here every time I visit home now! read more
