By all means not traditional pho, but hey if that's what you're going for then blame yourself for going to a brewery in Ocala! When approached as pho-inspired but very much its own thing, it was delicious. We loved the bao, and my husband's pot roast sandwich was super yummy. They had some interesting brews on tap. I will say not a huge selection if you're into darker beers, porters, and stouts. But IPAs, sours, and ciders, they've got you. Service was friendly and fast. Cozy atmosphere. Great location.
First impression of the place: it felt like a brewery had taken over a small comfort food joint. Right off the bat, my small dog was denied entry by management, even though they offer an outdoor patio for pets and humans. Unfortunately, it was a bit chilly for that today. Inside, the tight open kitchen gave us a glimpse of the grilling action alongside a few pots and pans. The host was very friendly, offering us tastes of their craft brews. Both the Unforeseen Creatures (5% ABV) and the Destihl Apricot (6% ABV) were well-balanced and tasty sours. The prices of the beers were incredibly reasonable, too. I appreciated the easy-to-read beer ledger on the wall, clearly displaying ABV percentages and prices.
I'm so happy that I decided to stop by...here's why (and it's a true story): I had just ordered some food from another place in Ocala and when they told me it was going to take about 25 minutes, I figured I'd stop in to Big Hammock for a quick beer. I was expecting it to be a brewery with all their own beers but what I got was even better. While I don't believe they do make any of their beers, they did have a great selection to choose from. I was dead set on having one beer and leaving but once I saw the menu I quickly decided to ghost the other place I ordered from (I know--party foul ). The menu was filled with Asian-inspired dishes like bao buns, ramen, and scallion pancakes which is not something I've seen in Ocala but was very welcome, indeed. Alas, I didn't order any of that but instead ordered the highly recommended special of the night which was a Thai basil inspired beef and rice dish served with green beans and OMG. The beef was tender and flavorful, the rice was soft sticky perfection, and the green beans were perfectly cooked. The dish itself was a flavor bomb with a soft heat that built up to a climax that definitely required some water and made me sweat a little....but damn, it was delicious. The best part of all was how excited the team was for me to eat their food! The service was top-notch and pure love. Nothing makes me feel better about dining somewhere than staff that actually believes in the menu and experience. Great job Big Hammock. Some practical stuff to note: this place is located in the heart of downtown Ocala but street parking is honestly a breeze here. The vibe is casual and I would say family friendly too. Totally my kind of place nonetheless considering they had the dog show on! Overall--I've said enough--it's obvious, Big Hammock Brewery is a must-try!
Big Hammock is a nice small shop near the square in Ocala. I would call this more of a taproom and Ramen shop than a brewery, as Big Hammock usually only has one or two on their menu. I have been here before, but this time I was focused on getting Ramen,. When I asked Andy if I should have regular Ramen or the dry Ramen (forget name right now) and he told me it was $9.99 Ramen night (Thursday) so he would order the regular Ramen if he was me. The Ramen is not the best I have ever had, but it is sold. Even more so considering a place like Ocala is not where you expect to find a decent bowl of Ramen. Andy Made Me Do It IPA was also very tasty and I appreciated their beer. In a previous trip, I was more underwhelmed. This time much better. I want to go back and try the pancakes and the bao buns.
Think of this place as an outstanding Ramen house with a great tap list that also happens to brew a beer or two. We had a sampling of potstickers, bao buns, and ramen and everything was great! The ramen was definitely the star of the show though! The emphasis was strongly on the MEAT, making for some of the most filling ramen I've ever had! (Vegetarians don't fret, they also have excellent vegetarian options) They have a very eclectic set of taps representing multiple styles from multiple breweries! Absolutely worth a visit, give them a try!
I usually dine in. Tonight I got ramen to go. It was busy because of the art walk on the square. I thought it would be a long wait, but my food was out before I finished my beer. Brought it home and devoured my pork belly ramen. I love big hammock. Food is so good and fresh. Even when they are busy, it's worth the short wait. For to-go orders, they package your broth separate from the noodles/egg/veggies. So nothing is soggy when you get home. They will give you to-go cups of yellow saracha sauce and red chili oil if you ask. This place never ever disappoints me and my belly is always warm and happy afterwards.
The pork belly bao buns were good. The pork was dry, but the sauce really helped out. I would get them again. We got the pot roast scallion pancake for our second app. It was good! The cheese made it so smooth. I enjoyed it and would try a different protein next time. For our dinner we both got ramen with spicy Shoyu broth. We were going to run a race the next day and needed something hearty. The ramen was okay. I wouldn't order it again and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to a friend. The broth flavor was off, the protein was a skimpy portion, and after adding everything up, the ramen gets real pricy real fast.
Food never misses: Ramen, Rice Bowl, Bao, Scallion Pancake...it's all great! The tap list never disappoints- something new for everyone! What makes this place special, though? The atmosphere, the service team, the location...the vibes are always correct! P.S. Drew is THE MAN...But! We're always excited to see ALL of the familiar faces when we walk in!

Cold rainy days in Ocala calls for hot ramen at @bighammock_brewery - make sure to ask for that golden siracha *shoyu pork belly ramen *miso pot roast ramen *pork belly bao buns The place has great vibes, nice to eat at the counter and watch them cook your food. Also brews their own beers which is a win in my book! read more
On a day trip to Ocala today and stopped in for lunch. We received a smile and friendly greeting upon entering. The service was great. We had wedge salad and scallion pancakes with pork butt as the protein. Both were large portions and very tasty. The space is very clean and well lighted. It was nice to sit near the chefs and watch them prepare the food. We can tell the locals choose Hammock Brewery and Bites and wished we did not have such a long ride home. If not we would have sampled some of their options! read more

Well......Once again, 5 Stars for delivering exactly what they say they are going to deliver. Friendly service, fresh food, good beer selection. Also, unique menu items were a big surprise. There is definitely a big Asian influence in some of the items. There also are some hearty food choices to go along with the beer selection. I like that all the deli sandwiches are steamed first, unless otherwise requested. The Ramen broths are made daily. And a couple brewery tanks are on the way with a real brewmaster on staff. Small inside which is great to hang out and have a convo with friends or family. Outdoor options are available as well with a huge window that opens up to a hightop bar area. Everything was so good and the owners are excellent people. Say hi to Tim, owner, he'll be here a lot running food and greeting customers. Jen/Torrey are on staff as waitresses so you know service is going to be great. Chef Matt has put together a great menu with Tim and staff so come in and enjoy. Fun fact: BHB plates are made from fallen palm leaves and our cutlery, cups, and straws are made from corn syrup. They do not have a freezer or a microwave in the house. This place was my stop on the way out of Ocala after visiting for the day. I came out here to visit a few places including Silver Springs and I wanted to stop here to get a quick bite to eat before heading home. My waitress was really nice and I enjoyed the atmosphere it offered and from reading prior reviews, this place seem to be popular in town. I had maybe two of their most popular brews and I can't complain, the soft pretzel with beer cheese was just as good. I will definitely make this my "go to" place when visiting Ocala again. I really wanted to get out of the heat as it was sweltering walking around Silver Springs lol but I'm glad I chose to come try this place out. When I travel, I like to find the best breweries around. First time here. There were lots of nice food options. I had the ramen with vegetables, egg, chicken and spicy miso. Also if you're a vegetarian there are several vegetarian and tofu options. Beers were also good and the service was great. read more

Such a great place! Beers and cider was very good, the staff was super friendly and helpful. We had a slow roasted pork ramen and a veggie tofu ramen, roasted pork ramen was absolutely AMAZING! The veggie ramen was good just felt it need a tad more flavor. Still ate it all.Definitely returning and recommending to people read more
I absolutely love Big Hammock! My husband and I always pop in during lunch time and it's never been disappointing. The drinks are fantastic with a nice varied menu for all preferences, and the food is incredible! I love how the options are so different from what you would expect out of Ocala and literally everything I've tried has been delicious. The service is phenomenal and everyone we've interacted with inside has been so kind and welcoming! If you're in the area you absolutely want to stop by and enjoy yourself-- from the food to the atmosphere, it's always a great experience! read more

Where to begin... nice people, lovely location, food to die for. Comfortable, handicapped accessible, attentive staff. This place is a great addition to the local food scene. Plenty beers to choose from. The goyza are delicious, the ramen so good. Daughter had the veg dumplings, miso/tofu ramen; I had pork dumplings and pork belly/spicy ramen. So good! Portions are generous, come hungry. read more
The location was great, a quick walk down from our hotel. They do serve beer on draft. You just look at the back wall. I think having a small menu helps the chef big time. I do like the fact that you can watch the chef prepare each meal. Our server was this cute old gal. She was full of jobs and kept the lunch light. Thank you! read more

Wow. This was just plain bad. I was hoping that Big Hammock would live up to the great reviews. We came on a Thursday at lunchtime. It was mostly empty. We sat at a high top table with a good view of the attractive decor. Loved the glass garage door and open ductwork. Our waitress was friendly and made a few suggestions. We ordered the Scallion pancake with the beer cheese dip. Let's just start here. Beer cheese dip does not belong with a proper scallion pancake - fortunately, this dry, limp, cold, tasteless pancake had the warm, seasoned and pretty tasty dip. Not wasting my carbs on this. We ordered the steamed bao with pork belly (I was really excited about these).... chilled bao with a sliver of unseasoned pork and a tiny slice of cabbage. No seasoning, no salt, no sauce... no taste. Ugh! A cold dry bao is a lot like swallowing a mouthful of cotton balls. There was sriracha on the table... even a generous squirt of it could not counteract the void of flavor of this sad cold bun. The ramen.... lest I forget the ramen... packaged dry noodles I can forgive... but the "insipid tepid liquid" it was in - I won't insult broth by calling it broth or soup, or even a sauce. It was brown warm water. I'm not being mean or devious with this review. Our waitress came to ask how we liked our meal- I clearly stated it was terrible, tasteless, and inedible. We were then greeted by the owner who we told the same. They did not seem surprised, apologetic, or concerned, and we paid and left 3 full plates. Save your money. Read an online recipe on how to make a scallion pancake- it's not too difficult, and you will enjoy it much much more. By the way, we had to go somewhere else for lunch we could actually eat... and it was pretty terrific. You can read that review later. read more

My pineapple cider was great. The ramen was very salty though. I would recommend getting the miso broth instead of the soy-based broths if getting ramen. Otherwise, good atmosphere and great service! read more

Oh, yes!!! It's good!! We kept hearing and seeing things about this place so we decided to try it out at lunch. We ordered the bao buns with pork belly and a delicious cabbage and dressing. My husband ordered the ramen noodle bowl with chicken. He really enjoyed it. I ordered the mandarin salad. Very fresh and crisp. We will definitely go back to try other things. read more

A tiny 5 Star establishment! I'm here in Ocala for the 2nd week and finally got a chance to explore the food scene. I'm glad we landed here. It's small but we were able to walk right in and find a seat for a party of 3. The vibe was laid back but mature. Lots of beers to choose from but that's not what we came for. We ordered Ramen and Bao Bun deliciousness! The buns were steamed nicely lol but the star of the show was the Ramen. The picture is nice but the flavor profile of the Ramen broth is very very good and nothing beats trying it for yourself. I could eat this a few days in a row easily. Great char on the pork belly and pork butt. A real depth of flavor situation going on here. Myself as well as my coworkers will be back! read more
We went at 5pm on a Tuesday night. It was slow but still had a really friendly welcoming vibe. We sat off in a corner table with fun pillows to soften the wooden bench. They have a board listing the beers that can't be seen from the table so it was a little awkward getting up to pick. I couldn't decide so, great news, they bring you a sample to make sure you get what you want. Bingo! I liked the first sample of Florida Lager! It was tart, cold and flavorful. A great start! We ordered three appetizers to share. 1. Potstickers - normally plain filling but these packed a flavor punch and with the sauce they got even better. 2. The Buffalo chicken steamed buns were amazing. They use the most tender thigh meat, the sauce had just the right amount of heat and the steam buns were soft and chewy. 3. The cong you bing is definitely my favorite! Scallion pancakes with pot roast, mushrooms, onions, and melty cheese! Absolutely delicious. This is a gem in our community. I highly recommend. read more

Digging this place. The people here are very friendly and the food is good! We absolutely love the rotating beer selections and the awesome diversity of beer styles. The nod to historic Silver Springs is pretty cool too. We have been there several times and are looking forward to going back again soon. Super convenient to park in the free parking garage and then walk one block and boom. You're enjoying a cold craft beer! Great job! read more

Wow. We plan road trips off the beaten path to support local businesses in small towns. Normally, we find solid spots. This was not solid - this was freaking stellar. Only one home brew on tap but the others were a well rounded collection from Florida brewers. However, forget the beer. Come for the food. Super small menu but man, they did each thing incredibly. Best of the bunch: stuffed scallion pancakes, ramen with pot roast and the pressed pork sandwich. The ramen was the best we've had since living in DC. Well rounded broth that could stand on its own. All of the staff were wearing masks and were super friendly. So glad we made it our stop this trip! read more

This was such am amazing restaurant! Tucked in the corner of downtown Ocala, this diner style restaurant is just what we needed! When I asked about beer, the server, Andrew, asked what kind I normally drank, then offered me selections that would suit my palate. I chose the Cream Ale and was not disappointed! It tasted great and went down smooth. Andrew went even further to help us first-timers make food selections. My husband chose the ramen bowl and I chose the rice bowl. Again, this did not disappoint! When visiting a restaurant, sure, you go there for the food and the beer, both of which were amazing! But what takes the experience to the next levels are the people that set the vibe. We, without a doubt, will be back to Big Hammock Brewery and Bites! read more

Great service. The owner is great and you can tell he cares about each customers experience. I had the rice bowl with pot roast and it was 10/10. We also tried the Pressed Porker sandwich and the flavor was perfect. Slow Roasted Pork Butt, House BBQ sauce, cheddar, Mandarin Coleslaw, Pickles and Fried Shallots!! This place is truly great. My mom and I live in different cities and try our best to meet up here and there half way, and this time was in Ocala. We tried to do some research on some local spots but a lot seemed to be closing early due to covid, and we happened to stumble upon this place. The online hours said they were closing soon, but the bartenders took us in and didn't seem to care at all. I got ramen and my mom got the bao bun appetizer, and they both were delicious. The beer was an in-house brew, upon recommendation from Andrew, and it was super good! Everyone that worked there was super nice and hospitable, and we will be returning back to Ocala, specifically to Big Hammock. read more

My husband and I stopped here after picking up our new camper. We stumbled upon this brewery. We are from up north and not familiar with the are at all. We read some quick reviews and could not resist coming here for a Saturday lunch. The people that work here are absolutely amazing. The beers we tasted (4 out of several, that's all we had time for) were excellent! I wish we could have stayed longer! The thing that makes this brewery special is that they serve really great and unique food-cooked to order. I highly recommend stopping by to try the Bao (my first time) and any and all of their beers. I wish I had time to try their ramen! You will not be disappointed at all! read more

GREAT PLACE. I was on a road trip and stopped in Ocala for lunch. I noticed this place had Bao tacos and that is a draw for us. We tried the tacos and the quesadilla and the Asian sandwich. All were wonderful. We also asked for all their Florida beers which might have annoyed some servers but our guy, Samuel, was awesome, friendly and helpful. Im from the SF Bay Area and this place would do great anywhere. You can tell someone knows what's up. Kudos and if I'm ever back in Ocala I'll be back! read more
