Its been 7 months living here and in all that time, Big H Chicken has never been open. Today was another example. Pulled in at 2:23 with the sign showing open to 4pm on Saturday. The doors were locked, and they were only taking orders thru the drive through. Seems like tge ownership only does this as a hobby, because they have been closed and dark EVERY TIME WE HAVE DRIVEN 23 MILES one way to go there. Well worth the stop!! We are traveling back through the Eufaula, Alabama area and decided to stop even though it was packed and we were in a hurry. Now we understand why it was so busy. I got a two piece combo (breast and leg) that came with mashed potatoes and gravy and a yeast roll. The leg was outstanding, but let's talk about that chicken breast, which is always the driest part, pretty much any place you go, so a good fried breast is a mark, in my opinion, of a good chicken place. I've never had a chicken breast be that juicy and flavorful. I'd put this second only to Gus's Fried Chicken (IYKYK). This is the first time, though, that I've ever had the meat taste better than the batter, which is saying something because the crispy batter was very tasty also. My husband got the chicken strips with fries and he said it was definitely some of the better of both he's had in any fast food place. My mashed potatoes were good. Not the best I've ever had but they were real and had great flavor. Loved the gravy but I do wish they'd put a little more of it on the potatoes. The yeast roll was super soft and fresh. The sweet tea is also worth getting. Sweet but not too sweet and a good solid tea flavor. Total cost for two people was $18.10, which is far cheaper than most corporate fast food chains these days!!! In fact, I'm not sure how any of the fast food chicken chains could stay in business or even compete with Big H for quality, value, and service. There's no way I'd darken the door of a Popeyes, KFC, or Bojangles if there was a Big H in my proximity. We went through the drive thru so I can't speak to the ambience of the inside but I can say that the staff was friendly and good at their job. Overall, this place is a total winner and we look forward to stopping again the next time we're passing through. I cannot say enough good things about my experience there. read more

After passing by and wondering about his place we finally stopped to try it. It is excellent! We had chicken strips which are made when ordered fresh. We got French fries and mashed Potatoes and slaw. All excellent! They offer a Buffett also it is not serve yourself but they serve it. You can get it to go. Stopped again a few days later and had the chicken chef salad. Also very good! The service is friendly and seem to have many regulars known and greeted by name. Plenty of seating and clean restrooms. We walked in and were welcomed by the people behind the counter. We tried the 2 meat 3 side dinners. I did the baked breast and leg ( they did not have thighs) with fried squash, green beans and banana pudding and roll. We also had the fried thigh and breast corn, fried squash and potato casserole with cornbread. We thought the chicken breast was a bit dry but tasted ok. The sides were good but bit salty. But alas, things you change with time and it is no longer an "all you can eat" buffet, even though the gentleman behind the counter called it a buffet. For $10 it include - 2 pieces of meat with a limit of one chicken breast per plate. - 3 sides - Beverage - all you can drink - Bread - all you can eat. I like trying a little if everything and not a lot of one thing, that is why I like the all you can eat buffet style places. A local gem. Very friendly staff that is always congenial and happy to have a chat with you. The fried chicken is good here but the sides can be touch and go. They have a drive-through if you were in a hurry. Very good tea and the service is very quick you can get in and out of this place as quick as you can a McDonald's but obviously the food is less processed and much better tasting. What surprise in Eufaula! Southern style buffet with great food made from scratch! I am so glad we stopped on our way home from Florida. Everything was so good and they were busy. I had the fried chicken which there are 2 kinds, the darker crust was crispier. Of course they had chicken livers! Fried catfish was awesome, collard greens, black eye peas, potato casserole, etc. And end it with peach cobbler! There are still other choices I have not listed. My friends and I came from Tampa and stayed in Eufaula to hike at Providence Canyon. You can imagine the mentality of "treat yo self" the 7 mile hike gave us. Being from Florida, which isn't really considered "southern" despite being the southernmost state in the east coast, we were really jonesing for some good southern home cooking. Big H definitely delivered!! We were immediately greeted kindly. If felt like I was visiting my neighbors, whose mother always ushered us to make ourselves at home in the kitchen. From the door you could see mounds of freshly cooked chicken; you better believe she didn't have to say so twice! The fried chicken and the bread were among the best of their kinds I've ever had. The sides only made it better. My only regret: eating too fast, making me get full too fast. The only thing that could've made this better was unlimited Mac n cheese. The chicken was really good. However, I just went through the drive though. It was an hour before closing and they were literally out of everything...except for chicken and mashed potatoes. When I got home, I realized that the sides to my meal were not even in the bag. As a mother of four, I found this to be more than unprofessional. We literally ended up eating chicken and the yeast rolls (which were a little dry) for dinner. I called to inform the store and they said I could come back. No apologies or anything. Yelp is pretty darned accurate...however if other reviewers think this is "the best Southern food around" and give it 5? stars...then this area REALLY needs some proper Southern cooking. As of 6/11/22, you can get 2 meats, 3 sides (which we were allowed to choose a dessert as our third side) a drink and bread of choice for $12. If you are passing through Eufaula, stop at Big H's. On the way to/from PCB and GA, we try to leave and time it to eat lunch there on the way down and again going back home. The buffet for 2 adults is $19, which includes all food and your drinks. The buffet has a salad bar, about 10 veggies, three kinds of chicken, and dessert. Also, you will want to take a refill of the sweet tea with you-it's awesome. They have more southern style food than you could possibly eat. We recommend to all of our family and friends. Big H's is a tradition for us and it has never disappointed. All of the food is really good; best fried chicken ever and delicious peach cobbler!! On the south side of Eufaula in what used to be the Hartz Chicken you will find Big H. It is somewhat funny but there are still Hartz chicken signs inside the restaurant. Fried Chicken buffet.
