This SUBWAY® is typical of all SUBWAY®'s - long queues during lunch, underwhelming vegetables and…read moreplastic-y cheese. But it's a proper good fill-up, it's cheap, and the service is friendly. It's not quite like the best SUBWAY® I've ever had, which was introduced to me by my old neighbor Dave.
At the time, Dave's wife, Kate was doing a night shift as an RN at the local hospital so the only time Dave would see Kate would be during dinner time. And it happened to be that SUBWAY® was the reason why they got married. They had first met at a Quizno's (the local SUBWAY® had closed due to a kitchen fire) and they bonded over the fact that SUBWAY® was their favorite fast food sandwich. Well sort of - Dave had lied about just to make Kate happy. At the time, he preferred Jimmy John's while SUBWAY® was a close second.
Dave had intended to stop by his usual SUBWAY® on McPherson Rd. but ended up at the location on Green Court Terrace due to construction. But Dave was determined to see his wife before she left for her shift. He loved her very much.
Usually Dave ordered the Turkey SUBWAY® as his Doctor mentioned that his cholesterol was a little high. However, the friendly SUBWAY® sandwich artist named Carlos told Dave about the new special SUBWAY® sandwich that was limited time only. Dave consented and asked Carlos to make two of the specials with everything except for black olives. Kate hated black olives even though she loved olive tapenade. She also hated irony.
Back at home with his two special SUBWAY® sandwiches, Dave and Kate settled in for a relaxing dinner. After a few bites, Dave exclaimed, "This is the best SUBWAY® sandwich I've ever had!". Kate's eyes also widened and she exclaimed, "By goodness you're right! This is amazing! We have to let our friends and neighbors how good this SUBWAY® sandwich is!".
The next day, Dave goes to the Green Court Terrace SUBWAY® and even though Carlos wasn't working that day, the shift Manager, Brian made a special SUBWAY® that was just as good as Carlos'. Dave also picked up two additional SUBWAY® for his neigbors, the Lassiters. Mr. Lassiter took one bite and said, "This is the best SUBWAY® I've ever had! We should let the Mayor know that the best SUBWAY® is in her city. I'll call my friend in City Hall tonight!"
Mr. Lassiter made the call and arranged to meet the Mayor on the steps of City Hall the next afternoon. After a few bites, the Mayor lights up, "This is easily the best sandwich I've ever had!" even though she was both Kosher and a ovo-lacto vegetarian. "Thank you ma'am!", said Dave and Mr. Lassiter in unison. "Why I think this is the best SUBWAY® in the entire state! You should bring a sandwich to the Governor! I'll arrange it right away", exclaimed the Mayor. "It certainly is a great SUBWAY® sandwich", said Dave.
The mayor called the governor's office and arranged a meeting for the following Saturday when the governor was in town. Dave brought a SUBWAY® to the governor's hotel and the state's chief executive met him along with the mayor next to the hotel pool. "That's the best SUBWAY® I've ever laid eyes on!" exclaimed the governor. "Thank you Sir! I completely agree!" said Dave. "I'll say," said the mayor. "This is easily the best SUBWAY® in the state," said the governor. "I think it may be the best SUBWAY® in the entire country!" "Really?" said Dave. "Yes!" said the governor. "I think it's time to take this SUBWAY® to meet the President of the United States!"
The governor's office made the arrangements. Two weeks later Dave, Kate, the SUBWAY®, the mayor and the governor flew to Washington, D.C. and arrived via taxi at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. An aide ushered them through the White House and into the Rose Garden, where they waited for the President. About an hour later, accompanied by the strains of "Hail to the Chief," the President of the United States entered the Rose Garden. He shook hands with the governor, the mayor, Dave and Kate. "So is this the sandwich I've heard so much about?" asked the President. "Yes," said Dave. The President reached towards the sandwich, took hold in both hands and took a giant bite. Silent, the President took one more bite and chewed thoughtfully. "Isn't that the best SUBWAY® you've ever had Sir?", asked the group.
"No," said the President.
