Mediocre. i went here based on Yelp reviews and man I was disappointed. I ordered barbecue. I know I'm in New Mexico but it was boring. You had to pay extra for corn fritters. You don't get slaw on your sandwich. The waitstaff was overworked and the place was hopping- hire more people for the summer season! Plus they advertised milkshakes but their milkshake machine was broken. If you can't serve what you advertise either take the sign down or put up a sign so we aren't disappointed to not get a milkshake. read more

Ordinary food that is extraordinarily priced and served at the slowest possible pace. Not recommended. We waited 20 minutes to get seated and get menus (we had to ask for them). Then we ordered 3 appetizers, hoping they would come up fast (nachos, quesadilla, and fries). We were told it would take 20-30 minutes. It took 45 minutes for appetizers! Quite possibly the very worst place I have ever eaten at. Just went there on the outskirts of Cloudcroft. Well we went there 1.5 hours ago but we just left. Do not waste your time. When we walked in it was like we were inconveniencing them and we were ushered out of the way by a super surly waitress. We wait about 10 minutes. Then the surely waitress throws menus at us and walks away. We finally get drinks and then when wife wants a refill nobody even looks our way. One of the other tables told their waitress that wife had been trying to flag down our waitress to no avail. So we're about to walk out after about an hour. Food finally comes and it is disgusting. Frozen chicken fried steak. Warmed up canned corn and frozen French fires. The home made rolls were also overdone. Next time we go to Cloudcroft, we will stop at Subway in Alamogordo and haul sandwiches up the hill. Jeez. read more

On my way back home from a camping trip, I stopped in for breakfast. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros (egg white option) with home fries and hash browns. I couldn't eat more than half the food because it was flavorless and had so much grease. The food here is not worth the price and the wait staff is not attentive. The restaurant was also very filthy and outdated. It really surprises me that famous people have stopped here, probably because there is nothing else here in Cloudcroft. It's small and tight. Mensroom door didn't lock. It was pretty busy and was very loud. Staff was nothing to go back for. I appreciate they're busy but there were three people hanging out in the kitchen, one of whom was sampling food with his bare hands, so why did it take about forever to bring the meh food? We are not talking more than maybe 40 customers in total and we didn't all walk in at the same time. Never offered to refill the salsa bowl. ONE napkin per; no spares to be seen. The placebo of a smoker to the side of the building is what pulled us in after a quick drive through the town. Must of had a new server, she had to keep asking us what we ordered. We waited about 45 minutes for our food, although I realized the owner was sitting behind us and got his food before us. The food took forever to get out and when it showed up it was cold. The waitress did not offer soup or salad for the meal that I ordered, the sides she brought out is not what we ordered. The customer service is a 1 star, and the food is a 2. The town of Cloudcroft is very beautiful. After a few days of relaxing on vacation, my family decided they wanted to eat out. We called ahead to let Big Daddy's Diner know that 15 of us were coming and the restaurant did not have any questions for us. We arrived at the restaurant (Big Daddy's Diner) and I was expecting to be greeted or seeing a sign about please wait to be seated. I walked around for a moment and found the cashier and asked about seating. I was informed that we could sit in the back room. I informed those in my party around me that we would be sitting in the back and proceeded to the backroom. We all sat down at two sets of tables. We decided that we would like the tables together and pushed the tables together. I thought this was odd, as they were expecting as a prepared a place. The waitress arrived and asked if it was okay if we could share menus as they were short. We agreed this would not be a big deal. We ordered mostly waters and some sweet tea. We requested silverware as there where not any napkins or eating utensils on the table. The waitress brought the waters, and we agreed to pass them out for her. We passed out the waters to everyone in the table while the waitress went to get the eating utensils. The waitress placed the stack of napkins with all the silverware on top and we agreed to pass them out. My brother even folded the napkins around the silverware to give us the experience we are used to. We ordered our food and some appetizers. The (4) four appetizers arrived in (2) two baskets, because they were short on baskets. The waitress asked if this was okay. We were tied of being shorted on the service department. I later found out that my allergies where causing my headache that I had. Getting tired of the lack of service, we decided to complain. I felt bad for the waitress, because it seemed management was not supporting her. She had other tables as ours. She brought us (2) two more baskets and we separated our own appetizers of potato chips. The chips where horrible and we inquired about seasonings. We were told that nothing was added to the chips to season them, because of allergies. I did not see a notice about this on the menu. We were offered to use the salt and pepper on the table, and we wanted she would bring us seasonings. I was astonished, could management really be this bad. Well, we were warned by the locals not to eat here and this is turning into a disaster. The food arrives or arrives over a period of 30 minutes. I am thinking the kitchen must be slammed, but the restaurant was not full; then again (15) fifteen of us did order food. Not more than 2 minutes after the potato chips were shorted into (4) four baskets the food begins to arrive. The chicken was bloody, the chicken fried steak was tough and overdone, the ribs were cut up and short on ribs, and the ribs and fries where cold. We complained very loudly as the quality of the food was horrible. I am thinking, Just wow management lets this continue to happen and let this quality of food leave the kitchen. I request the chicken fried steak to be redone and the rest of the food is requested to be removed from the bill. The nachos and hamburgers are done correctly and those items are eaten. Some of the food was eaten and pay for, because the teenagers where hungry and didn't care. A second server is now assisting us and trying to correct things. There is not much she can do either when the kitchen cannot cook the food. The manager comes by to see what she can do. My response is I would like my food. I am the only one without food for the first round. She says she will look into that. She never returns and after a few minutes I get up to go inquire about my food as I done waiting and I can clearly see she didn't follow up with me. What a disaster the poor waitresses, management and the kitchen have failed them. The chicken fried steak returns and my food shows up. I notice the color and shape of the chicken tenders. I had lowered my expectations hoping for a good time. I don't know any restaurants that cannot cook chicken tenders. The experience gets worse; I didn't think that could happen. I really didn't even want to try the chicken tenders, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I am not sure why, it was mostly likely due to my headache. The server look distressed and nothing seems to be going right. The chicken tenders are a dark brown almost black and go crunch, crunch, and crunch. I am thinking, wow these are burnt or over cooked. I check the tender which has the chicken meat slimmer than my pinky and see that there is no black on the tender, it is only over cooked. This is a great little place to eat. We met the owners who were more than welcoming. They have owned this place for about 6 years and have worked to have everything on the menu be homemade. I ordered the pick 3 BBQ plate with sausage, chopped brisket and pulled pork. My sides were corn and French fries. The meat was really tender and their homemade BBQ sauce is to die for. My husband got the unlimited catfish. Which they serve you so much it's really all you can eat lol. Amazing food and great atmosphere and outstanding service. Went by the diner about 4 pm yesterday for dessert and coffee. The carrot cake was moist and delicious and the chocolate cake was heavenly and huge! The wait staff is super friendly and treats you like family. The restaurant is very clean and has a cozy atmosphere. I'm not leaving 0 stars because I can't. There was 2 waitresses the younger taller one was great! But the other one, an older and shorter lady that waitress is causing you money! Trust me, from the moment we got there she greeted us with attitude. She said "what do you guys want?" We said "we are new to the place and want to eat." With an attitude and the hand shooing motion she said "well, go sit somewhere." We were a party of 6 and the only available table for 6 was RIGHT NEXT to another party of 6, with this pandemic and all this new rules we thought it would be best if we say further away so we started to pull 2 tables together. She said that we could not pull tables together because only 6 people can sit by table. Even though we clarified once again it was only 6 of us, and all 6 of us were standing there. It was VERY unpleasant to just even be in her presence. She is like a black hole that will suck happiness from anyone around her. The service was really bad. I'm only giving this place any stars is because of the atmosphere. Just recently my husband and I stopped by to try this place and we decided it would be the last time. Our waiter only came to our table twice. Once upon our arrival to bring us our drinks and then 45 minutes later to bring us our food. I'm not kidding. It took 45 minutes before we got out food. I ordered my son the chicken strips and they were really really skinny and look sorta burnt. I was planning on ordering dessert but i wasn't in the mood to spend another hour on waiting for that. We visited this place while staying at a rented cabin. We went on a Friday and got all you can eat catfish. The beans were good. That's it. The catfish was just a bunch of over fried coating. The fish was nonexistent . We ordered a second portion when we got our first order (before we tasted it) and it took 35 minutes to get the second order. Needless to say we did not eat it. The hush puppies were as hard as rocks. I would not recommend this place if it was the only place to eat in town. read more

During a recent stay in Cloudcroft, we had dinner at Big Daddy's. We found a welcoming hometown cowboy atmosphere and an extensive menu. While I can't say the smoked sausage and pulled pork were amazing, they were good enough. This place isn't worth stopping at. Had a late lunch here and the food wasn't very satisfying. We had the BBQ combo and the ribs were tough,pulled pork was soggy and bland, and the brisket was just ok. Cheeseburger wasn't anything special. My family waited there for 1 hour to get our food. When we got in we were not greeted with the greatest attitude, in fact we weren't greeted at all. After 15 minutes of receiving our order we were told that they ran out of chicken so we had to change the order. Then 30 minutes later we still haven't gotten our food but the people who came in after us, by a lot, got their food. The manager sensed our energy and was eyeing us like a hawk which was incredibly rude and annoying. She came over multiple times and said our food was coming "soon". The servers definitely picked favorite tables believe it or not and joked with them. Our food arrived cold and dry and not at all good. Salad was watery, brisket was basically tasteless jerkey, burrito was hot on the outside but cold on the inside-telltale sign of a microwave. Based on Yelp reviews, I decided to take my family to dinner at Big Daddy's. My question is "where did the good reviews come from?" We ordered (1) chicken enchilada with mild red sauce - not sure it was chicken, the rice was not well prepared and flavorless, the refried beans were fair, (2) chicken enchilada with green sauce - like the reds, not sure it was chicken but all together flavorless (3) tostado plate - again, tasteless (4) chicken strips were decent. We ordered a hot fudge sundae - good but not worth $6. The service was poor. We were ignored most of the time and had to waive the waitress down if we needed something. Not very good. Based on our meal I probably wouldn't try it again. We shared the Pork Roast which was bland & dry. Got beans and coleslaw on the side. Beans were not bad, but the coleslaw was lacking even a tiny bit of seasoning. We also got a Jack Burger with grilled onions and a slab of green chili on top. Also bland & dry. I got a side salad to go with the burger instead of fries which the waitress forgot the first time around. When it arrived it consisted of iceburg lettuce, 2 cucumbers, and some shredded cheese. Despite the mediocre food this was by far the most happening place in town on a Saturday night. Not sure if this means that every other restaurant in town is worse, or that the people who live/visit here have really bad taste in food.
