Came up to see some late snowfall, and always a treat to stop by here. It's always open it seems, and the fresh breads and pastries and coffee are amazing. If you want a breakfast burrito on a cold morning best to show up early, I snagged the last one around 10am and people kept trickling in behind me asking about them. Very nice place with a crazy variety of sodas are displayed along the counter. Michael who I believe is the owner of the bakery was VERY helpful and a cool person. He went as far as bringing us a fresh loaf of 3 cheese bread which was delicious by the way. We also bought a couple of fresh baked pie from him. One blueberry and a pecan that were also really good with just the right amount of sweetness. The best pies in Cloudcroft. We stumble into this little bakery in town and saw some folks eating some incredible apple carmel walnut pies with some chocolate on top! Apparently locals rave about this pies; so, we tried several including the pecan pie and the old fashioned apple. It is homemade, fresh and with a rich consistency. Also well balanced in terms of vanilla and sugar the pie crust crumbles with deliciousness in your mouth. The place also has some decent burritos and some chocolate croissants. The owners are super cool and kind, which means that their service is personalized, friendly and great! The ambiance is rustic, welcoming in a woody mountain like environment. read more

Amazing pie shop! If you are in Cloudcroft this is the go-to place for dessert. I ordered the "fruits of the forrest" pie and my boyfriend chose the pecan pie. The crust on both was perfect - flakey and buttery with a bit of crispiness. While I am not usually a huge pecan pie fan, the filling in the pie my boyfriend ordered was the best I've had. What else can I ask for when I get to town in a nice rainy day. The coffee is so good and I didn't want that moment to end. The staff was nice and gave us some good recommendations and even explained the science of foam at this altitude. Parking is plentiful when you're downtown and the walk afterwards is just made better when you have one of these in your hands to go along with the view. Was in town for the weekend and on a Sunday morning there's not much in town open and came to Burro Street for a quick bite. 8 dollar burritos were disappointing in flavor and in quality. Maybe I'd be more forgiving if they were less expensive but at those prices my expectations go up. Had some danishes and perhaps it's not their specialty but if they have them I expect they would take pride in them. The flavor was not unlike gas station packaged danish but at triple the price. Had a latte and the preparation was good enough but their roast produced watered down church coffee. This is definitely a grab your food and go sort of place, not much in terms of ambiance. The service was good enough but with four people having coffee and a burrito we spent $80 and this was not a splurge worthy place. Might've had the same level of food and same level of service going by the gas station. read more

We were going through Cloudcroft on our way from White Sands to Carlsbad Caverns and stopped for a little treat. We were greeted with a friendly hi when we walked in. We already had coffee in the car, although the ones they offered sounded yummy. It was a hard decision to choose the sweet pastries we wanted out of the nice variety they had. Scones, humongous cinnamon rolls, cookies, several flavors of pie, etc. We chose a chocolate croissant and a strawberry/cheese danish. Both were delightful... I saw the reviews online about how good their peach pies were. We were visiting their later that day so I called and Michael answered the phone. 7:00 in the morning, told him I would be there at 11:00 and could I get a peach pie. He said he would have it ready. You just can't do that anymore, anywhere! We got there at 10:30. The sweetest man, Michael said he had it ready. Well I didn't stop there, I got an apple too. Cute bakery in Old Town Cloudcroft. I got a whole peach pie, sourdough bread, and a cinnamon roll. Peach pie was the bomb--awesome tasting peaches, flaky crust with a sugar topping. Everyone loved it. Next favorite was the sour dough bread. Crunchy crust, soft interior. Perfect with our spaghetti. Least favorite was the cinnamon roll. A little dry for me but I did not get it heated up so that might of made the difference. Be sure to go early when they have everything in stock because they sell out quick. read more

No lie...this bakery has some of the best pie I've ever had in my life! Jesus! If I could give this bakery 10 stars I would! Had I known their pie was this good, I would've bought an entire pie (or 2?) rather than just a slice! I seriously regret it! I ordered a slice of peach pie. It was delicious and fresh. It had just the right amount of sweetness for me. The peaches used had the perfect flavor. The crust was buttery and flaky. Absolutely amazing! This pie is perfection! I can't wait to go back and buy a whole pie...and probably buy others, too. I will also have to try their apple pie. I'm sure it's just as amazing. It's definitely worth the two-hour drive from El Paso. I'm already looking at my schedule to see when I can go back. The young lady working was also nice and friendly. Who would drive for hours in to the middle of nowhere for a fresh, homemade pie?! This guy! That's who! We dropped by Cloudcroft 20 years ago on a long road trip. It was fall and it was beautifully snowing! We were wearing tshirts and shorts and we braved the freezing weather for fresh baked goods. We each enjoyed a slice of the most amazing pie! We've looked forward to returned for two decades and today was the day! The drive up was super-scenic and worth the trek. We stopped several times to take pictures and even tried a few ancient roads to see where they'd lead. But then, it was time. Time for pie. We entered the store and only saw a few slices available. Nooooo. I asked the proprietor what kind of pie they had today and she told me "there are several coming out of the oven shortly". It was our lucky day! I selected the flavor "berries of the forest" and found myself the proud owner of a piping hot, fresh pie. Is it good? OMG. Freaking delicious! Burro Street Bakery was such a sweet surprise. It's everything I envision when I think of a down-home bakery. It's cozy with a lovely lady working behind the counter with the sweetest smells swallowing you up. The name threw me off. I get that it's actually on Burro Street/Avenue, but initially I thought it was a Mexican bakery (I love Mexican bakeries, but they've been played out for me since living in El Paso). Reading the reviews, I got the feeling it was an American bakery... and it was in fact an American bakery, through and through. My eyes were bigger than my stomach, but it was so hard to not just say, "I'll take one of everything!" I ordered a hot cocoa, a Long John, and an apple danish. Oh. My. Gosh. I haven't had a real-deal, homemade, old-timey, American pastry in a long time. I started with the apple danish and it was simply flaky and delicious. The Long John was filled (I was actually expecting this, but I'm aware most Long John's are actually unfilled) with a creamy custard; the doughnut/custard ratio was perfection. The hot cocoa was made to order, super hot. Also very creamy. I also really loved the whole set-up. They have a map of the US as soon as you walk in where you can pin where you're from. It made me feel incredibly small in the world to see how many people across the US (and even across the world because people have started writing in their locations outside of this nation) have stood in the very spot I have. They have a few apparel items for sale which is good if you need a shirt or hat, but don't want to head over to Alamogordo. It's a small space... like I said, it's a cozy spot (only one table and a couch if you want to eat in). I can't wait to go back and try their cinnamon rolls and pick up a hundred more danishes and Long Johns. We looked forward to coming here for their Yelp listing, bakery items and mostly, coffee. We only ordered coffee here today. The double espresso I had was pretty good, but spoiled by it being served in a styrofoam cup. We thought it would be served in a paper cup as the barista told us they didn't serve drinks in ceramic mugs. Free WiFi was available. Eco: two star review, for use of disposable cups for dine in, instead of ceramic cups. With all the decorative art showing coffee in mugs, would have been nice to have coffee in mugs. Burro street bakery located on the main shopping strip in cloud croft has tons of small town appeal giving visitors a comfy home town feel. Though it is located on burro street I didn't see any donkeys but you will see lots of snow in the winter time Tons of parking on the strip, the hard part will be finding a place that isn't really covered in snow. Service was great, I came into the shop and was helped right away. The owner/server has a great warm feeling and is super friendly. Coming from the cold there is nothing better then coming into a warm shop. Service was quick and my drink came out instantly This place has some awesome homemade pastries. They range from danishes to donuts and crispy croissant type items. I had what seemed like a croissant philo type pastry filled with some nuttella. It had a nice slight crunch but was soft and buttery taste and texture. The rest of their pastries looked super good. They were not uniform and had a bit of a home feel touch. Definitely a good stop on a super cold winter day up in the mountains. I also grabbed a coffee which was on the relatively light side of roast and flavor. I'm not sure what kind it was but it tasted as if the water just touched the beans for a few seconds. I was expecting something more roasty and toasty but was kind of disappointed by the lightness of the coffee. Overall a cool little place to get out of the cold and warm your ears and belly. Their pastries are awesome and flaky with a homemade touch. The only downside would be the lightness of the coffee. The shining star with this place is the pastries. Definitely a place to go with friends and family after exploring the valleys and lush forest of the local area. read more

There is another bakery across the street, the bake goods are just as good or better then the ones at Burro Street Bakery, and their customer service was excellent and very professional. Language, in general, is insufficient in relaying the amazingness that is the Orange Cream Frappe. I was just after something wet, cold, and a little sweet and chose this drink at random. What the Burro Street Bakery served me was all that, plus magic and refreshment. I saw cubed ice and liquids go into the drink, but the immersion blender wizard behind the counter rendered a concoction so perfectly smooth that I would have believed had come from a soft-serve machine had I not watched the entire process with my own eyes. We also had a Boston Cream pastry. It wasn't a cake, filled donut, or turn-over, so I have trouble describing exactly the texture of the pastry that supported the chocolate and cream layers. The result, however, was a wonderful marriage of flavors that managed to be completely indulgent without being overly sweet. I'm already busy trying to work a stop through Cloudcroft into future roadtrips so we can arrive earlier and try more amazing pastries... read more

Loved this place! The bacon green chile breakfast burrito takes 15 minutes to make, but that's because they make them to order. The eggs were cooked perfectly and not dry and the bacon was crisp and not soggy. The best part is that they use fresh chopped green chile instead of the typical canned or bottled green chile sauce. The regular drip coffee tastes fantastic! I had it with a splash of cream, but it tasted just like Pinon! During the wait for the burrito, I also had a blueberry cream cheese danish, which was excellent. Good proportion of cream cheese and fruit filling to the danish. You could tell it was fresh because of how soft it was. The only thing I regret is asking them to warm it first! Overall, service is a tad slow but worth the wait.
