Super cool bar in downtown Cloudcroft which is a tiny town, but one of the best places I've ever been in New Mexico! This bar has an old western field. Service at the bar was phenomenal and they had a great whiskey selection.. We met a couple locals in there who were super nice overall a great bar to come get a drink at in Cloudcroft. Came into cafe wanted to try it out. Both my wife and I got the green chili cheeseburger. Everything was very good and the portion of fries or tater tots you get with the burger is quite a bit. My wife was unable to finish her fries. I had a hard time finishing up my tots. The atmosphere is laid-back And even though it's a bar no one smoking inside. There appears to be a game room attached with pool table and arcades, but I did not make it back that far. It's a nice friendly atmosphere will definitely come back. read more

Local and only bar in Cloudcroft. It's usually packed during the weekends or whenever tourists are in town. It's covered in $1 dollar bills that guests write their names in or a bit and then staple it to the wall or ceilings. It gives the place a fun atmosphere. They do have pool tables and a dart board. They have a couple of televisions and a digital jukebox you can play music on but it's usually at a low volume and you can't really hear the music. Aside from alcohol they also serve food. It is quite delicious! Their Phillycheese steak is delicious, so are their breaded mushrooms. They have Taco Tuesday and although they are advertised as $1.50 per taco, they do add some fees at the end so you're not really saving any money. Kids are allowed during the day. Pets are allowed even though many times the owners are irresponsible with them. My family and I once had to sit next to dog poop while we tried to eat our dinner. The dog owner eventually picked it up, like 15 minutes later. The place reeked. I'm a firm believer that pets should stay at home if they are not a service animal. read more

One of the most unfriendly vibes that I have encountered. My husband and I, along with our adult children (8 people total) are visiting Cloudcroft from Texas and wanted to take my daughter to get a drink to celebrate her birthday. We walked in to total silence (no music or anything) and no one greeted us. We were stared at the whole time by the other customers. The waitress put menus down and seemed angry that we were there. My son and son-in-law tried to order drinks from the bar but were told they had to order with the waitress. After waiting 10-15 minutes, we left. As we walked out, the bartender or waitress made a comment that they were glad that more space opened up with our departure. Terrible customer service and very uncomfortable vibe! read more

A hidden gem of a bar! Food is alright but ultimately you're there for the atmosphere. Not many places let you use a staple gun after consuming alcohol but this place does! I think the guy has a retirement fund hanging by staples when he calls it quits. Amazingly enough, I don't think anybody touches any of them. My husband was so excited to take me to this bar that he discovered many years ago while traveling in the area. Unfortunately our experience was not a good one. We were happy to see they were were serving outdoors under a nice canopy with four separate tables. We waited for an open table and ordered a couple of beers and a couple of burgers. Our beers were delivered within about 5 minutes and I excitedly reached for mine and took a big swig and promptly made a face. Warm beer. Took a drink of my husband's...same thing. Yuck. I mentioned it to our server and her explanation was that the taps are near the door and there is a lot of in and out activity. Huh? OK then, I'll just finish my warm beer. So we wait. And we wait. And we wait. Finally 45 minutes after getting our warm beer, my husband asked our server to check on our food. Remember there are only four tables. She told us they've been really busy so that's probably why it's taking so long and they only have a small grill. Hmmm, OK? My husband said, if our food is cooking - it's fine. If it's not, you can just bring us the bill for the beer. Server comes back 5 minutes later and without a word, slips our bill on the table and walks away. Yum! We just had lunch here after a long hike in White Sands Nat Park (30 min away). The burgers were big and flavorful. And the sides were very generous (we had tater tots, sweet potato fries, and regular fries.) They gave me a mountain of tater tots! My bacon cheeseburger was exactly what I was expecting. The wait staff were friendly, informative and attentive. When the music came on, it was a little too loud because the speaker was right above our table, but the bartender very kindly turned it down as soon as we asked. Be ready, guys. This is a no frills, down home place. But that's why we love it! The food is great! There is no question about it. And there is something about getting a hot toddy or a great hot cocoa in a mountain town that is just magical! But back to the food. The burgers are my favorite and they don't blink if you get it sans bun to make it Keto friendly! They have decent Mexican food too! The husband liked the tostadas but loved the chile con queso! The bar is the only nightlife in town and they even have pool tables. However, they do close early yet later than everyone else in town! I like my bars a lil on the country side. This Western bar works perfectly as a country bar! This place is cool- it's more or less the only real bar in 'downtown' Cloudcroft. It's famous- it is so old, and the tradition is, you go in and stick a graffiti'd dollar bill on the wall or on the ceiling. There's so many dollar bills pasted up on the walls, it seems they could all retire a dollar at a time! The bar offers a variety of beers, including several local and local-ish beers. They have pool in the back. The vibe here is definitely dive bar. We were the loud out of towners who came in to drink, and they didn't seem to mind. There's plenty of parking out front. Downtown Cloudcroft sorta looks like one of those stereotypical Western wild, wild west towns, and the kinda parking lot that looks like it'd be good for settling scores, so don't get too lippy with the locals. The bar is not too clean, but it is divey, so don't worry about making a big mess. The bartender was pleasant and welcoming, suggesting beers that are local. They offer food, but we didn't opt to eat. read more

So much potential! Unfortunately, our waitress was rude & the rest of the staff members were cursing & saying nasty things making our experience pretty lousy. When we asked about their beer selection, the answer we got was "all kinds" nothing further. We walked over looked at what beers they have then placed our order & she seemed confused & told us they don't have the beer we ordered so we looked at the taps again & she said "oh I guess." We've been coming to this place for years and the food has always good solid pub grub. This time was no different. But there were two things I'd like to highlight. First the amazing, huge amount of tater tots. I'm usually left wanting more. Not this time. I couldn't finish them all try as i might. Second was the green chili cheese burger. I expected some chopped up chilies which would have been great considering the great fresh lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Instead they used a whole roasted chili split open, seeded and (I think) lightly grilled then stacked on the nicely cooked burger. I'm very happy that they are serving food outside during COVID-19! I ordered a plan hamburger with an extra patty ($2) and extra crispy fries and water. Good little cafe. Our waiter was very friendly and took care of a. We ordered 2 waters, a BLT with fries and a Club on Rye with tater tots. WOW! You get plenty of food! The sandwiches were huge and the fries were abundant! They could cut back on the fries and tots - one side was enough to feed 2 people. Prices were all reasonable for a small town cafe. We did have to ask for our check, which was fine. Only recommendation would be for them to remember to check on their tables on occasion, otherwise, everything was great! read more

Bartender spends most of his time hiding in back room playing on phone won't even make eye contact to try and get a beer. A good restaurant with a full liquor bar attached (or vice versa) The Bar is a local watering hole, usually open until 2am on Saturday, 10pm the rest of the week. I did not want to qualify this as a 'Dive Bar' or a 'Lounge' ;the proper category would be best described as a 'Saloon' in the Western sense. Seems like a fun place to hang out and have a few. The restaurant portion is smallish and clean with lots of wood. Food is mostly down home fare with Mexican food as well. I sometimes get the Quail which is a little pricey (I like to opt for the unusual). Service is always good, the beer cold and the wait staff pleasant. Solid 4 stars...Yee-haw!!! read more

This is a touristy western-themed bar in a touristy town so don't expect much and you'll get what you expect. The place is equally divided into two sides - a typical barroom which was pleasant and reasonably authentic (with a large group room in the rear); and a brightly lit add-on dining room that had all the warmth and charm of a Denny's. It started off on the wrong foot when our waitress didn't have a clue what beers they served. Duh, it's a bar. That is about as basic a task for a server as you can get. I had a taste for fried chicken but was concerned it was going to be too much food for my appetite. I was intrigued that a bar like this in a remote mountain-top tourist town would have things like trout and quail on the menu and both could conceivably be awesome local fare so I asked the deer-in-the-headlight waitress if the trout was local caught and she said no, she thinks it's frozen. I asked if the quail was local and, frankly, I don't think she knew what a quail is ... she just sorta stared at me. So I fell back on the fried chicken, it's really hard to screw up fried chicken. You guessed it, yep they did. There were "4" pieces. The breast was about the size of a small hamburger patty. It was dry and almost completely tasteless. How can you make fried chicken tasteless??? Of the remaining three pieces the thigh had no meat on it (I don't know how that's possible), the leg was as big as my thumb and the wing had to have come off a hummingbird. The side rice tasted like Rice-a-Roni and the green beans were canned. The green salad was adequate. I could forgive the bad food if the ambience was a fun, rollicking western bar where we could kick back and enjoy some brews but no, the place was like a morgue. What a terrible waste. I had lunch today at this bar. The food costed me 10.76 and I gave 20$. The waitress asked me if I need the change. I said yes. I was gonna leave tip for her out of the change. She returned back with 9.24$ and started counting and intentionally kept 2$ and started counting the rest saying: here is your change. That was such a CHEAP, RUDE and OUT OF PLACE behavior. I am deciding how much I should tip you not you decide how much to steal from me. I have never seen such an act in any restaurant. Went in food and a beer on 6/10/19. Asked for a menu and took about 20 minutes to get that. Also waited almost 30 minutes for my beer. Not even sure where the bartender was. After our meal, we went outside to smoke and talk to a local. The older lady what I assume to be the manager busts out the front door yelling at us to get the fuck out of there or she's calling the cops because we "sexually assaulted" her cocktail waitress. I had left a receipt from big bend national park on the table where my parking was good until 6/9. She assumed I was making some sort of sexual gesture towards her employees. I will never spend money in this place again seeing how they treat customers. Not a good feeling leaving cloudcroft after being treated like that, and took away from my experience in this town. read more

Pretty good place. Love coming up here for a chili burger and a brew after a hike or trail run. Only gripe is that it's cash only, but it's a small one. There's usually some good live music on Fridays. read more
