Pretty good place. Love coming up here for a chili burger and a brew after a hike or trail run. Only gripe is that it's cash only, but it's a small one. There's usually some good live music on Fridays. read more

We came here for the dinner and we were waiting around 40 minuets. I ordered NY Steak sandwich with medium temperature. By the time I got my sandwich everything was cold. The steak was cold too. Just don't understand why they took so long to serve a cold sandwich. read more

OMG amazing burger and sweet potato fries!! Grand shared my fries and a grilled cheese! Perfect meal after a day of tubing in the snow

"This place is wonderful My CFS and Gravy was Homemade and wonderful!! My wife's Christmas enchiladas were incredible!! Also, "TacoTuesday" is a no miss 1$ tacos!!! The bar is a NO MISS if your are in Cloudcroft. I cannot believe they had Stella on Draft!!! A ++" read more

Drinks review only: Upon exploring the town of Cloudcroft (which took about five minutes...nice place), I decided to grab a brew or two before heading back to Alamo. Being that this is seemingly the only place in down, the decision wasn't hard. I bellied up to the bar, and the very friendly bartender was immediately there to help. I wanted something local, and got a Santa Fe IPA in can. I spoke with some of the others at the bar, which seemed split between regulars and visitors. Later, I switched to a Green Chile beer that was fantastic. During happy hour, each drink was something like $3 - excellent. Seems like the kind of place that would pour strong mixed drinks too, but can't confirm. The people next to me ordered food and it looked/smelled good, but I didn't have any food myself. read more

Good food. We tried here with some friends of ours (who have been afew times) for lunch. Was impressed. The portions were big. My wife tried the huevos rancheros and the plate was massive. I triedthe double meat burger. I loved it. it was so big and I was so full when I left I actually didnt eat dinner that night (which never happens). Floor was a bit dirty (needed more vacuming at some point), and the bar attached (where the bathrooms were) smelled terrible. Good place to go for food if you can avoid the bar side read more

Lower your expectations put on a mask to stifle the smoke from the bar next door. Only place to eat when you are in the village. Our group had Mexican food, burgers, beer and a not so great Rita but it was vittles, that means snacks for those not from these parts. Service kind and expedient. Wish I had tried breakfast, that might be the ticket to liking this place, competition is needed. read more

Close... but no cigar. Kind of run-down. Has dollar bills all over the walls and ceilings. Maybe they could use those for renovations? The restaurant takes only cash or check as of this writing. NO CREDIT CARDS. Was massively understaffed when we came for dinner....it was Friday night before New Years so should be no surprise they would need more wait staff. The waiter tried very hard and he warned us that he was taking orders at 12 tables, so we got our drink orders in quickly. He was right - Took 35 minutes for our dinner order to arrive. The food was acceptable and the price was right. Beer on tap was a good selection. But no drink menu??? And SOOOO SLOW. And no credit cards??? Hello! It's not the 1970's! IF I WERE YOU I'D SKIP THIS PLACE. read more

My con queso burger was very good and my cousin and father's food were also good. My mother ordered chopped beef tacos but came as ground beef. Besides that the server was very sweet and timely. read more

Went here for an early lunch. For seating, you can choose between the unremarkable restaurant area or the more rustic (and dark/dingy) bar area. My gf and I chose the latter because we found the hint of cigarette smoke more bearable than the overpowering aroma of greasy breakfast food that was present in the restaurant area. The food was OK. We shared a Mexican platter, which included a DELICIOUS chili relleno (I might go back sometime just for that), a dry-ish tamale, and a decent cheese enchilada and beef taco. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful. Overall, it's fairly decent/average. Given the limited choices available in Cloudcroft I'll probably be back at some point. read more

We have been coming to Western Bar for years. This is the first time I have been sadly disappointed. The loaded nachos had just a little meat, no beans, a sprinkle of cheese and lettuce and tomato, no guacamole. The chicken fingers were from frozen, tasteless. The green chile burger was bland without flavor. All in all, a very disappointing experience. read more

We ate dinner there twice, pretty good place. My only complaint would be the food was all kinda cool temperature wise, not very hot. First night we shared a meatloaf, pretty good, as was the CFS the next night. Server was helpful and attentive. read more

Ambiance is "divey charm" but that's about where the charm ends. The waitress did not know any of the beers (in her defense, she said it was her first day, but there was no beer list...), when a friend asked for a cider, she offered an O'Douls and argued that it wasn't non-alcoholic since "it's at the bar". We got one correct drink, one incorrect drink, and it took 20 minutes for the third drink to arrive. After 45 minutes, I asked when our appetizers were expected. When they finally emerged, 2 out of 3 were cold. My friend summed it up best when she said, "I mean, I think the food would have been good if it was warm." Also, there was a frequent but unpredictable buzzer that sounded throughout our entire visit. Do what you will with this information. Good luck. read more

Stopped here for lunch en route from Carlsbad to Alamogordo. Lots of character. They had been slammed that day so service was a bit slow, but the waitress gave is fair warning when we were seated. Great service! Tasty food - Mexican and American. There is a separate room next to the bar suitable for families, but the restaurant shares a bathroom with the bar. read more

This place has lots of character - old historic building, super friendly staff, and fabulous food! Our group ordered a couple of burgers and a Ruben sammich with tots and we all left super satisfied! Will definitely return next time we come through;) read more

The food was very big and while the price was a little expensive it more than makes up for the sizes! Mexican to breakfast to burgers they have everything! The only thing is the price but if you got money then go for it! read more

Excellent service and really great food! They were busy and still fast. The quail and fried okra were fantastic. Good atmosphere. Friendly people. I will return. It's kinda like diner food but better. They have a great selection of beer. read more

Horrible service! Asked for marker to post my dollar bill on the wall and bar tender didn't want to waist her time getting so she replayed with "it's somewhere around here" read more

One down fall, cash only. What I will say is that all of that is worth the headache. This place has to have the best green chili cheese burger I've ever had in my life. I've had allot of burgers in my time but they have the best hands down. if your not wearing it by the time your finished your not doing it right. read more

I'd give this place zero stars if I could. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have never been to a bar where I sat at the bar for over 20 minutes waiting on a single drink. The bartender passed us up several times and took other orders after acknowledging us. We were actually seated and she was taking orders of the guys walking up and ignoring us. They were not that busy and had 3 people working the bar. I don't know if it's because we obviously weren't local but screw this place. We just wanted a beer after hiking. The only way this place is in business is because it's the only bar in town. The owners need better bartenders, she was an ogre. read more

Great burgers, service, and staff! Everything was so good and Laurie, our server, was a delight! Been here several times and it's always good! read more

Great burger, with delicious homemade guacamole. We also had fajitas that were very tender beef

Only come if you're willing to wait an exorbitant amount of time for something simple to make--even if you're one of two tables. The waitress was wonderful and apologetic, but the fact that this place took so very long makes me never want to come back on my regular visits. It's sad this village only has a few options and the lack of interest in the customer experience clearly doesn't matter . read more

First things first. Please note they accept cash only so be prepared. They do have an ATM inside which is convenient. We ordered the green chili cheeseburger with fries which my husband said was delicious. I ordered the club sandwich the bacon was crispy which I liked but the sandwich wasn't anything just absolutely spectacular. The service was great! Did not have to wait long for our meal at all or for someone to wait on us. Overall I would eat there again. read more

Loved the cafe. Food was good. Restroom was very clean! Service was great. Not busy on a Sunday afternoon.

Not eager to please tourists. More of a locals place. Had the Taco salad on Wednesday eve and had to pull over every 30-40 minutes the entire next day. Finally felt better on Fri afternoon. Those are just the facts, maybe it was the water. read more

I have been coming to Cloudcroft for many years and the Western used to have great food. I live here now and have been seriously disappointed with the quality of their food. I don't know what happened, but in was really embarrassed in front of my friends when we went there. The food has gone seriously down hill. The staff is great, but i through my last take out meal away. Big Daddy's and Dusty Boots are heads and shoulders above this place now. It makes me sad, because I have eaten their for so long. I would not have written this if I had not received so many bad meals in a row. I'm sorry, because I really liked that place. read more

Their salsa was tasty but not enough to win me over. Grey, tough chicken in the enchiladas and chile relleno was slimy. Nobody at my table finished their meals. Wish there were more alternatives in the area. read more

Not a lot of choices in town, but nonetheless this place has the market cornered. There is a liquor store, bar, and restaurant - all part of the same building. A few TVs for the game, plenty of beer on tap, super local and friendly too. read more

It's a bar in the mountains...pretty neat actually. A saloon, I should say. Next door is the cafe. It's alright. Nothing much to rave about with the food. The food is mostly Mexican-ish. read more

Cloudcroft is a cute little mountain town. Stopped here after doing the Osha Trail down the hill. The ambiance is unimpressive, the waitresses are friendly. I got the Mexican combo, which included a Taco Bell beef taco, cheese enchilada, pork tamale, and chile relleno. The chile relleno was by far the best. I also got it with christmas sauce, both red and green. For beer they do have a selection from Santa Fe brewing. Other than that its shitty domestic draft. Overall worth trying if you're in the area. But bring cash, they don't accept credit cards. read more

The restaurant is good, a solid B+ or A- café. Fairly diverse menu: Stakes, burgers, Mexican, token sea food; salads are fresh but uninspired. Quick service once you get in, there can be a sort wait on weekends. The bar is a trip back to 1947. Don't miss it. read more

I have been here to eat quite often in the last ten or so years. The last two times my husband and I went the food was not good. After the first time we thought it might have been a fluke. The next time my husband got the philly cheese steak sandwich and the meat was tough. I love okra and order it whenever I see it on the menu. The breading almost seemed stale and lacked flavor. We probably won't go there again for a while and will find another local favorite to eat at when up in Cloudcroft. read more

The food is not the best. I ordered the fried chicken, and the green beans were not very appetizing. The baked potato was ok. The chicken was sort of dry but overall ok. They don't accept credit cards though. It's not the best place. read more

Worst service ever! Do not waste your time! Waited 15 minutes to be asked if we had been helped. Then as we walked out one employee asked us to tell his mother-in-law why we were walking out. If you don't mind drunk staff forgetting you in the corner, this is your place! read more

The Western is part of our Cloudcroft routine and is a MUST for any visitor. The chili relleno with Christmas sauce is incredible. It's cash only so just make sure you plan accordingly to avoid any last minute ATM charges. read more

Always yummy, people Are always great. Red enchiladas excellent!!! Margaritas always exceptional!!! Can't wait to go back

This used to be a great place to eat. I do not know what has happened. The service is very good, but the food we could not eat. The menu has changed and not for the better. My date ordered the enchiladas, rice and beans. The rice and beans were definitely right out of their cans and the enchiladas were tasteless and tough. He left 1/2 of the food on the plate. I ordered the Santa Fe Chicken dish and it also had the terrible rice and beans. The chicken breast was cooked on their grill with a tomato atop the breast and a ton of some white cheese. Tasteless even with the tomato. We will not be recommending this place to anybody and will not return. It's sad when new owners take over and change the menus when the old menus were money makers. There is a huge difference between good and bad food. The Western Bar now serves bad tasting food. read more
