Terrible experience. Started off fine and then there would be weeks without seeing any workers. One of the worker's truck parked in front of our house for 6 weeks, but again no work done during that time. No communication about the schedule or owner would say workers would be here and then no one showed up; again, without any communication. Had to constantly text and leave multiple voice mails before any response. No supervision of work so some work had to be redone. After 7 months the pool never was completed and our yard was left all torn up, We had to figure out ourselves what to do and find people to do at additional cost to us. We thought we did due diligence prior to choosing this company. Learning point is to be sure business is BBB accredited which this one is not. read more

Dustin has every excuse in the book to not perform work in a timely and suitable manner. He rarely picks up the phone and will text he will call you back (never does). You constantly have to contact him and then pray one of his workers shows up. After shotcrete applied, it took 7 months to complete my pool! His workers just disappeared! Additionally, I have had warranty issues since my pool was constructed by him, well over a year now, without any resolution (light doesn't work, filter nosel broken, etc.) . Loud and noticeable air bubbles in both the pool and spa. Spa jets not having appropriate pressure. Plaster application was not performed well but he never came out to comment on it until a year later. Finally, items are in the contract, that were paid for, still not taken care of. His workers also destroyed my fence by digging and placing plumbing right next to the fence poles. Another $14k+ extra spend. I attempted to come to a resolution by identifying a chiller/heat pump to be installed for free instead, which he agreed upon. Of course, that was never installed. He also parked a digger in our front lawn for 5 months which was well after excavation and uneeded for our project (free parking?)?. Constant hassle of attempting to get work done and completed/fixed. I wish I had gone with a more established company. read more

Finally, a pool contractor that actually knows what they are talking about...thank you for being honest and direct about recommendations, materials, and what can and cannot be accomplished. The soil we have here ensures constant challenges with swimming pools, and a company that knows how to cope with that in the best way possible is invaluable. UPDATE: 2nd Review in 2022: My pool computer board fried out after 22 years. I called Dustin and they had Jacob at my home in 45 minutes to diagnose. The very next day Jacob was at my house replacing and upgrading the equipment in the rain with an umbrella. I understand what great customer service is. I expect it at fine dining restaurants, and at luxury automobile dealerships, and I do expect great service from any vendor. However, Big D Pools, Dustin and Jacob specifically, have raised the bar to a new level. This is my 2nd experience of insanely amazing customer service from them. Big D Pools is appropriately named; I would give them a Big D grading. I had them out in June 2023 to quote a complete overhaul of my back yard. They seemed knowledgeable and I was excited about getting it done. I wasn't in a huge hurry for the big overhaul but was in desperate need of new pool equipment. We decided to replace equipment immediately and wait a couple months for overhaul based on their availability. It took them weeks and multiple visits to replace the pump and filter. At one point, they had the pump propped up on spare pool tiles and were planning to leave it that way. They didn't program the system correctly, communication was horrible. Coincidentally, the spa light went out a couple weeks after controller changed. Got a new light, it lasted a couple months. Wired wrong? It was a disaster so much that I didn't move forward with them for the big job. Fast forward a year, my new heater is leaking. They come out and tell me it's because my pool chemistry is off. For four months, I've been trying to get them do come and do something about it and they wont. Ignoring texts and not answering the phone. Steer clear of this place. read more

I needed one specific part for my pool heater after the freeze in Feb, and I searched all over the country and even outside the country for this part and no one had it. I was told it would be 3-4 months. My other options were very costly - replace the heater or try to bypass the heater with additional routing. I started calling around locally for someone to do the bypass, and Dustin tells me he has this part! Dustin was a life saver! Before you do anything, Call Dustin at Big D Pools - he has a huge inventory of parts - it could save you thousands of dollars. He's amazing! read more

Hired Big D to replace our cracked skimmer. Quality was as expected - nice replacement of stone around lid and skimmer works. Communication was very poor. We had no idea when they were showing up (we have a locked gate b/c of dogs), when they were leaving, if/when they would return, nor steps of the process. They drained a lot of the water from pool multiple times. Turned out ok but had NO idea they needed to drain that much. We paid over Zelle the day after completion ($2400) with not an acknowledgment of 'thanks for your business or payment". Started the job 3 days later than they committed to, then took 12 days to complete. read more

My pool heater and pump did not survive this last year and needed replaced. I tried to deal with my regular pool company and they just didn't show up. Jerry showed up the same day. He was WONDERFUL. He told me we could have the install immediately. I was thrilled. Then the installer Jacob came out. I'm an opinionated person. Just when I thought I could not happier with Big D pools, Jacob blew me away! It was 98 degrees in direct sun, Jacob was pleasant through it all. I love that guy. He was FANTASTIC. Two days after everything thawed out, checked my pool gear and it was needing repair. Obviously everyone was scrambling but Big D said they had the parts. Came out and did an assessment, quoted me a price and said they could fix everything by the following Friday if I paid a deposit which I did. Said I would get a text notification when they were on the way. Friday came and went, no notification or call as to why the delay. When I called them I got the "we're working around the clock". Finally two weeks later they showed up out of nowhere while I was at work and replaced everything. I was at least glad it was working. A week later many leaks sprang up and one pump quit working. Called a local guy and he came out and fixed everything For a price but at least it was finally done. His assessment of the work done prior was that it looked like they did a patch job. It was an expensive lesson. read more

I needed to update an old pool heater, pump and Jandy remote that stopped working. I called a few companies that said they offered this service, but upon calling, didn't. Other companies didn't even respond to my call. Big D had good reviews and they responded to my call the same day with an in home inspection and quote. It takes some time for me to adjust to changes. One, the sleekness and quietness of the new equipment was wonderful at first sight. Two, I looked forward to the ease and handiness of an app for remote control, but was slow and hesitant to the adjustment. Plus, it was recommended for me to contact them each time I want to update my settings. Let me just say, right now, after a month of my new equipment, I love all the new equipment and changes. I can fully enjoy my pool with it's new heater and the ease of the app! Although, I like full control of the settings and could have that full control if I wanted, but it is recommended to let them worry about that. I understand it is for the more enjoyable ease and less hassle to not have to worry about that and that I have the technical support and backup whenever I need it. The first time I tried to contact them with an issue, I did not get a response and I started to get a little restless. The reason I share this, and it is not a bad thing either, is because somehow they did not get this request. Just want to say to stay on it, it is not in their true nature/professionalism/business to ignore a client. When they finally responded, they fixed my issue and stayed on top of it until it was fixed. I have never had to wait for a response again. They are very professional, courteous and likable. Their aim is to deny warranty claims. I had a problem with my booster pump and a broken backwash pipe. The warranty company sent big d pools for the repairs. They use an automated system for scheduling, but they seem very new at it. I heard from them the first time when I received an email saying that someone is on the way to take a look at the pool equipment. I called them to say that I am not home, and the guy told me that it was a mistake and that no one is on their way to my house. So we schedule the visit on a Friday between 9 and 11. They showed up at 3. Tested the pump and took a look at the broken pipe. He said he will submit to the warranty company and someone will get back to me. The following Monday I get a call from a technician that said he is at my house to fix the pump and the pipe. I was not home at the time and did not know that any one is coming. I still guided him on how to get to the pool equipment to repair it. I get home to see that only the pump is fixed but not the pipe. I called them and they said that the broken pipe is not wear and tear, just because of where it was broken. He said that it will cost me $200 to repair it. I told him that the first guy that came on Friday saw it and took pictures and submitted to the warranty company, and that the repair guy told me that he was there to fix both, so the warranty company approved it. He said that the warranty company must have declined it later. I thought that was just an excuse to get me off the phone. Bottom line is that these guys will do anything to please the warranty companies and try to generate more business from home owners. Shame... read more

I have used several pool contractors over the last decade to update and service our pool. Most have over promised and under delivered. I had one that did an adequate job for a short time. He would complete the minimum required to complete the job. I've never had anyone take pride in the work they were doing; until Big D Pools. As soon as I called Dustin replied immediately and scheduled service for the following morning. Jacob called me 30 minutes before he was scheduled to arrive and told me he was on his way. He arrived on time and was very friendly and polite. I told him what I thought the problem was and he agreed that "could" be the issue. He began working on the pool equipment and after about 10 or 15 minutes knocked on the door to show me what the problem actually was. He did not do a bunch of unnecessary work running up a repair bill. After showing me the problem he went to his truck and prepared an estimate for the repairs. The estimate was reasonable compared to what I've been charged previously by other contractors. He then replaced the damaged equipment and tested the pool in all modes (pool, spa, freeze, etc.) to make sure there were no additional problems. Based on the above I would say he did a good job. However, he wasn't done. After the repairs he cleaned up the area completely and rolled the water hose back up where it belong. He then adjusted all the jets so that the water circulated properly pushing all floating debris into the skimmers where it belongs. I always assumed the jets were set properly. I never questioned it. There is a visible difference in how the water flows now that the jets are positioned properly and very little debris sinks to the bottom of the pool. The majority now makes it to the skimmer. It was a small thing that took him 5 minutes to do but it made a huge difference. It set Big D Pools apart from a good contractor to a great contractor. After making sure I was happy, he emailed me an invoice so I had a written copy of work completed and I paid him. This is the very first time I have ever had a pool contractor make me feel like they enjoy the work they do and want to do the best job they can. He could have easily made the repairs, collected his money, and left. However, he took time to look over the entire pool and spend five minutes correcting the way the water flows. It makes the pool look so much better with the water flowing properly and the debris not sinking to the bottom. I would recommend this company and will call them the next time I need service. read more

I'm so happy this company was recommended to me. I want my pool remodeled; Big D gave me a couple of doable options. The cost to make it look like I've dreamed was almost within my budget ( and less expensive than 2 other companies quotes). I'll be having Big D do the remodel after winter and before spring opening. By then my finances will be in order. In the interim they replaced some pool equipment and the cost surprised me; it was less for the same equipment than one of their competitors.
