He has very expensive equipment for coding chip automotive keys, after explaining my requirements, he jumped right into it. My complicated situation only took about an hour. I needed a locksmith for what I thought would be an expensive, complicated job at my house. I had a…read morelock on the back door that was sticky and unreliable. Since it used the same key as the lock in the front door, I thought I would be changing both locks, plus the deadbolt on the front door, so I wouldn't have to carry two keys to the house and wouldn't have to remember which one to use on a dark, cold, rainy night when I had my arms full of packages. I wanted to go to a brick-and-mortar store, not just call somebody who had a listing in the phone book or was carpet-bombing Yelp with spam. Well, Big D Lock City has been in this spot for at least 30 years, according to the guys behind the counter. The same guys also said that they could simply sell me one new lock and key it to the locks I already had, thus saving me a couple hundred dollars and a load of aggravation. (I have a couple friends and family members who have keys to my house, and they would all need to be notified and resupplied.) The locksmith came out the next day as scheduled, finished the job quickly and took my credit card without a hassle. I thought the price was reasonable, but it's not like I called three other shops and compared. I just felt good about the place when I walked in and saw a place that had a timeworn feel to it, a place where they were honest and old-school about their work. If I need a locksmith again, I know who I'll call.

I've had instances with Bob in the past where I was taken aback by how rude, confrontational and irrational he was but I certainly didn't think that he would be that way to my poor wife. I feel terrible about sending her there and I would suggest only engaging this company if you've got thick skin and you're ready to walk away shaking your head wondering how they are still in business.

Of course we have notified the police and taken any advice given. Finally I heard about high security locks that are nearly impossible to pick. Having met Robert once before I thought that he might be able to provide this service. His response was so startling and rude. Robert suggested I get in touch with a memory service. When I asked him to explain he said that he thought I had dementia! I was unaware that I had contacted a locksmith and psychiatric service. He is demeaning and socially inappropriate and very rigid. Having worked with many people I have only seen this combination in people with OCD but unfortunately he is not a pleasant person. There are so many locksmiths why attempt to interact with Robert. I tried multiple locksmiths over the years, including one very well regarded old place in Detroit and was always told there was nothing that could be done and I'd have to replace the door. Fast forward to now and I'm trying to get the house ready to sell. Called this place as a last resort and Jason asked me a few diagnostic questions and assured me he could get it working but it might be a long job. He came out the next day and we looked at it together and he quickly diagnosed the main issue and then identified multiple things he could do to get it in good working order. He walked me through his proposed fixes and was also honest about the limitations of what he could and couldn't fix. I understood it couldn't be made perfect and never expected that, I just needed it to be safe and functional so it wouldn't be an issue for any potential buyers. He worked on it for nearly two hours. When he ran into new issues he communicated them clearly and what he would do to work around them. I was actually not expecting much, but when he finished it worked nearly flawlessly! Given all the work and effort he put into it I was even pleasantly surprised how reasonable the cost was in the end. Owner came over at some point to drop off more supplies and she was very nice too. This is definitely my new go to locksmith!
