If you want a responsible mover, do not use these guys. We used Matt to move things out of our house to have floors refinished and that went well (although I found it odd that they helped themselves to the moving boxes I had just purchased to put under the furniture in the garage, rendering them useless). Then we arranged a date to move back in and one of the movers texted Matt to confirm the date of the second move. 3 days before that move Matt called to say he could not do it that day and denied ever confirming it (and my husband saw his mover text him). Frustrating - esp since Matt told us that we should have contacted him directly (his mover should not have handled it in that case). Then we set up a move to Fla and Cape Cod. On June 13 we discussed moving July 19 and he said he could do that date. 3 days later we got an email with different dates. When we called him, he denied ever saying he could move us on the 19th. He insisted he told us this but neither my husband or I heard him say that (and since we could not do the dates he claims to have proposed, we would have objected on the spot). He was referred by our realtor. We called our realtor to inform him of the situation and our realtor said he also had a few miscommunication issues with Matt and will no longer be using or referring him. read more

We had used Big City 2 other time ma with excellent experiences. This time was quite the opposite. I can done a virtual tour of the condo prior to the move and Matt determined 3 people would be what was needed. When the movers arrived they had not realized we lived on the 3rd floor and complained we had too much stuff, but never contacted the office to ask for help. When moving our queen size bed, they insisted it was a king, and the plan was to throw the bed over the railing of the 3rd floor. I had to tell them it was a queen and they could not throw the bed. When we arrived at the house they said mutliple items would not fit up the stairs, without measuring and they were let in our living room. My roommate and I had a large haul from Framingham to Cambridge and the guys were able to pack up the truck and get us all moved in within 4 hours. They were right on time and very efficient; unbelievable service and attention to detail. Zack, Noah, and Kevin were so lovely to work with, even offering to help more after they had finished all the tasks requested of them. Not only were they great to work with, using this company saved us boatloads of money. We paid about half of what we were quoted otherwise. Don't let any bad reviews from years ago fool you--the new ownership has done their due diligence because I cannot relate to any of those issues at all. Again, highly recommend Big City Moving Co. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. They were AWFUL! *It is like they went out of their way to damage as much of my property as possible. *They used old cushions and pillows as padding, which seems like a perfect way to spread bed bugs. *They stopped for lunch without telling us, so I was sitting around waiting for them for about 90 minutes. *While one of the two movers was really nice, he seemed to have no training. The guy in charge was rude and clearly did not give a crap about doing a halfway decent job. *I have almost no furniture, just a bunch of rubbermaid tubs, all the same size. I was living in a first floor apartment and moving stuff into a first floor storage unit. This was not a particularly challenging move. I was honest about the amount of things I was moving, so I see no reason why they should have been upset or rushing. Either way, they were completely unprofessional. This was an interim move. I hired Intelligent Labor to move my things from storage into a 2nd floor apartment on a steep hill with two sets up steps just to get into the unit. I actually had more stuff this time. They were able to move things carefully and efficiently and even wrapped my furniture in plastic without my asking. They did not damage anything and were extremely courteous. I'd used them in the past and have always had a great experience. I will never more with anyone else again. read more

I can't tell you how disappointed, angry and ripped off I feel. I had hired this company two a half years ago to move from Waltham to Watertown and they were terrific. I had no idea they had become so inept and unprofessional. After getting a reasonable quote from Matt, I hired them to move me to Jamaica Plain believing I would get the same level of service I got 3 1/2 years ago. However, I had no idea that the performance they provided was going to be horrible. The day of the move they arrived late and loaded up the truck slowly. Then, we headed out to the new place. I left them at 11:15 AM and was advised from Matt it would take 40 minutes for them to get there. After all, it's only 7-10 miles depending on which route was taken. They didn't arrive until 1:30 PM with no notice of what was taking them so long. Apparently, they took a nice leisurely lunch break, but said they were stuck in traffic. Then, the speed at which they unloaded the truck was incredibly slow. One of the guys would bring up a lamp and then 10 minutes later another small item and then five minutes later a box. They had absolutely no sense of urgency whatsoever. At one point I went out looking for them and found one guy in the cab of the truck either sleeping or playing with this phone doing nothing. Then, Matt and another guy was taking down a stack of boxes, rolled it down the ramp, lost control of the dolly and dropped one on the ground. Fortunately it wasn't anything fragile, but other things in the move did get broken. I even provided them with water, as it appeared they had none. What would have they done had I not done so? It was totally unprofessional. By the time it was all over they took what should've been a 4 to 6 hour move and made it into an 8-hour catastrophe. They charged me $1,900 for 8 hours, which included their two hour lunch and their incredibly slow performance plus travel time (their last move cost me less than $600). When I argued with Matt about that he defended what they did as standard. I've never felt so ripped off in my life. Granted, it was rather warm (around 85°), but they didn't care about time at all. Matt and his two lazy college-aged kids just taking their time not giving a damn. I strongly urge anyone looking for movers to never use this company, as I will never do so again! read more

I used Big City for a move about 3 years ago and was VERY unhappy with their services. The "movers" were 3 extremely smelly, surly young men with limited communication skills and very bad attitudes. My husband and I were moving up and down the stairs at twice their speed - and they were charging by the hour. The move ended up taking twice as long and costing twice as much as was estimated AND they broke our futon, ripped the upholstery on our couch, broke one of the legs off of my mother's hope chest, and scratched our tv. Not to mention the fact that they were consistently rude to me all day and seemed to want me to feel bad for "making" them work so hard. I hired movers to reduce my stress, but ended up with more stress than I could have imagined as I watched the clock tick away all the money in my bank account. read more

NOT RECOMMENDED! Used for Sept move in and here's what happened: Supposed to come with a large truck, but they arrived more than 45 minutes late and came with a small truck for reasons they couldn't really explain, until later in the day when 1 of the 3 guys 'slipped up' and told me they had double booked and decided they didn't think I would need the big one. The only one of the 3 guys that came who actually worked for the company was small and didn't do much to move things, stayed in the truck the entire time trying to make everything fit since there was so little room, which meant only 2 guys were actually doing the moving, thus it took much longer than it should have. The other 2 guys had no moving experience and were just doing it for a month or so due to Boston's Sept moving craze, so they didn't know how to do things fast/efficiently and again this made things take a LONG time. Promised to pack my things into the truck and handle with care so as not to damage my property, but they ended up significantly ripping 2 leather couches and damaging a bunch of other pieces of furniture. Was supposed to take 3-4 hours based on the size of my old/new apts and amount of stuff I had for them to move, but ended up taking OVER 7 HOURS because these guys had no idea what they were doing and were very slow. Then they tried to charge me for the entire thing/overtime and that's when I lost it. Had they not been incompetent and brought the wrong truck etc, it would have actually taken the realistic 3-4 hours. Last point--it's not been 2 months since the move and they have NEVER reached out to me RE the insurance claims they were supposed to handle due to my damaged property. Big City Moving disappointed this time. I was quoted a flat rate to move things from Boston to NYC. It was the best price I obtained so based on that and my previous positive experience with them, I opted to sign on to have BCM complete another move for me. The service with the office staff was again very helpful however moving day was a disaster. First two problems... - Confirmed 8am arrival time the day before the move. Movers called me at 9am to say they'll be there in 20min. - SLOOOOW. There was no hustle here but I didn't mind much since I wasn't paying by the hour. Fast forward to when I'm driving down to NYC. My cell phone rings and it's the very nice office manager guy who is calling to relay a message from the owner. They plan to charge me $300 more for my move (an increase of over 30%) because it took longer than anticipated. The move wasn't even half over and there were plenty of reasons it took a while to move out. I lost it on the guy (in a nice way) and got him to agree that we'd talk the following week after the move was through about any additional charges. Lucky for me, there was no disclaimer when quoted the flat rate that they could bill me more. And why would the owner not call me directly? That poor office manager guy got stuck with me wigging out. Not cool. Fast forward again to my arrival in NYC. It took the moving truck 2+ more hours to get there than it took me. The move in was slower than the move out! I had a freight elevator reserved and they took one piece up at a time. Seriously? I've never experienced a move like that. You're supposed to pack up the elevator and head up to unload. The one box marked fragile was dropped and things were broken. Then I noticed that my couch cushions were soaked. Apparently the truck had a leak. I then noticed there was a giant gouge out of my wooden bed frame. At this point, I was just DONE. I reached out to them a few days later to discuss the price but never heard back. I'm not sure why. Maybe because of all of my recounts of the move? Either way, I'd definitely pass on them if I had a do-over here. **Update...I did not end up paying more than what was quoted and guaranteed as the flat rate for the move after documenting all of the issues to the owner of Big City Moving. read more

4 stars, heres why so in the past 4 years, wifey and i have moved 5 times all in the 02453, why? good question, who knows, maybe we aim to become waltham townies so we can get the special treatment at tony d's and francos pub (not!) ok, so everytime weve moved its been only a mile and half tops. wifey brought into our marriage, besides love and understanding, a 350 pound solid wood butchers block, i mean a refrigerator mover is needed for this son of a block. thanks! well I'm not moving that thing again, i mean courting is one thing, look at me, I'm strong and i love you, lets keep dating, but now,pfft f that! i aint picking that thing again, what!?! you want to move THAT to the third floor!??!!! cue bigcity! so i found them on CL or on a telephone pole or something. i called and spoke right to the owner, brendon, nice guy, knows his stuff. a few years ago they were just starting out so he even came to do the move. cheap under the circumstances, i think 99 per hour with two guys and a box truck. they were fully bonded and all so rest at ease. the first time they can they moved us from a ground floor to a third floor, good luck with that! now the perk of moving one mile away is you can cart crap in your jetta back and forth 58 times leaving the big crap for the movers, which we did and boy were we thankful. no stress, no mess and for 200 with tip, im better off in the long run. the last time we used them, said block did get scratched and the new movers (not brendon) couldnt figure out how to get that dam couch out of the one house and into the other, took them seriously an hour, but with the scratches to the blocks top negating the overcharge, it came out even in the end. we also had the small issue of them double booking the date of the move. fyi, if you try to book the 30, 31 or 1st of a month, the rates are higher and more stressful, try a mid month move for ease, if you can. they did move(move get it!) some appointments around so we could get out of the death trap of a foreclosed housing situation we were in, into the current diggs we got now. i think they even will give you a loyalty discount thing if you try badger them like i always do! read more

These dudes are the WORST. Why? 1) Professionalism: they lack it. A) The movers they hire are too out of shape to move furniture. We were sent two movers to load our moving truck; let's call them "Skinny" and "Fatty". It became apparent very quickly that Fatty was in no condition to be moving furniture. He was sweating profusely (all over our furniture), took frequent breaks to chat and text, and finally up and left at 8PM, saying he was late for another job. That left us with just one mover. My husband and I ended up assisting Skinny with moving our furniture. Not cool. B) Timeliness. Because Fatty had crapped out early, Skinny was left trying to move things late into the evening, and because Skinny was working alone, he kept dropping things and smashing into our walls. Making a lot of noise late at night is unacceptable in our apartment. By 9PM, we had to ask Skinny to leave because he was too loud. The next morning, two different dudes showed up to finish the job, and took an additional 2.5 hours to finish packing our truck. For reference, we had the same furniture moved from Chelsea to Quincy last year by a different moving co. - they took less than 4 hours for the whole move (2 hours to pack). These dudes took more than 4 hours just to pack - that's absurd! This leads me to: C) They need to hire people who know how to do their jobs. There are smart ways to pack a moving truck, and these dudes are unfamiliar with it. Suffice to say, some stuff was crushed due to their packing "skills". 2) We had to move our own stuff. Because fatty couldn't do his job, my husband and I had to pitch in to move furniture with Skinny. This is what we hired YOU for! Why were we moving our own furniture?? 3) They ruined our stuff. While packing our truck, they broke our bed frame, put a hole in our hallway wall, took pain off our other walls, and stained a leather couch (thanks to Fatty's sweat). 4) Even given this nightmare, we come from working and lower-middle class backgrounds, and we know well enough to tip workers. We ended up doling out $140 in tips ($30 each to the first two dudes, though Skinny for Fatty's share, and $40 to the dudes the next day). We're not jerks, and I'm not about to take Big City's lack of professionalism out on their workers. 5) Now HERE is the kicker: Skinny assured us that because the move was so bogus, we'd be charged nothing. We were pissed about everything above, but decided that hey, if we weren't charged, we'd be willing to wash our hands of the whole deal. MUCH to our surprise, Brendan, the owner of Big City calls us more than TWO WEEKS after the move to tell us he is going to charge us. We told him no way, and he went ahead and did it anyway. He was totally unprofessional, charged us for services he didn't provide, and which we hadn't contracted for, and is, in general, a total scumbag. Avoid these dudes. They will ruin your stuff, take forever, do a crummy job packing, force you to move your own furniture anyway, and then wait weeks to charge you for all their mess-ups anyway. TERRIBLE. read more

I had a wonderful experience using Big City moving this past week. I called to make the appointment via phone. They sent me a confirmation email right after our phone call. On the day of the move, they showed up 10 minutes early. These guys worked HARD. They were extremely fast, very careful and really pleasant. We were in a hurry for time and money reasons and they were happy to let us work alongside them to get the job done quickly. I paid $119 an hour for a 24' truck and 3 movers. I called Big City Moving to schedule a small move to get a queen-sized bed and a desk from Brookline to Wayland during what is undoubtedly one of the busiest moving weeks in Boston. I was quoted a reasonable, flat rate over the phone and the sales person was nice enough to explain everything to me and send me an email invoice to confirm. It was really rainy on my moving day, so I wasn't surprised they were late by an hour after the estimate. The dispatch guy was friendly enough to call ahead of time and respond to my phone calls the day of to keep me informed as to where the movers were, it just sounded like the movers were hard to get a hold of. I'd mentioned that my bed needed disassembling, little did we know that the bed was actually very difficult to disassemble, so that added to our moving time. However, again, it was flat rate so I was okay. The movers opted to follow me in the car to the destination and unloaded quickly there, no complaints. I was able to pay by credit card. I would have given it 5 stars if they could have arrived not too late and if the movers could have been more proactive about explaining to me why the bed disassembly was taking so long. For a small move though, and for the whole process, it was pretty painless, reasonable in price, and I would use them again. read more

I was a little nervous when Big City Moving gave us the cheapest quote of the four or five moving companies we called. They also gave us the shortest time estimate (four hours). Still, we booked them and I am *so* glad we did. We received three guys for our move (Randy, Tucker, and John) who were *amazing*. They arrived a few minutes after 9am. They didn't waste any time -- before starting, Randy reviewed the contract so we'd be on the same page, and within minutes of their arrival, they were carrying stuff from our second floor apartment to the truck without comment -- and at a brisk pace! Even when we tried to foist breakfast on them, they all refused to pause and eat -- no wasting time! They finished moving us out of our old apartment in about an hour and a half, and were just as quick and efficient at our new place. Doors had to be taken off the hinge to fit furniture -- again, these guys moved quickly (but gently!) and two and a half hours later, they were done. Nothing was broken; they were funny and cheerful; and they *moved*. No one took a break until the job was done. The total move was four and a half hours, only a half hour off from their original estimate. Completely effortless move, literally. We were total stress buckets about our move, and BGM made it so easy. I'd recommend them to everyone! read more

I am really impressed by Big City Movers and would absolutely use them again!! I called and made an appointment over the phone (fairly last minute) and the gentlemen was very nice and professional. The only catch is a 3 hour minimum, so they are ideal for larger moves. When the move day came, the 2 movers arrived and were also very polite and professional. They arrived on time and called to give me a 30 minute heads up. I ended up packing up a bit more than what I discussed in the original quote and the movers were willing to move what they could without going over the quote for the initial 3 hours. I was considering putting my move off until Spring because I figured getting good service would be a big hassle and extremely expensive. I had heard horror stories of idiots using Craigslist to save a buck and all of a sudden you have an unlicensed/uninsured driver with your life in the back of his van as he speeds down icy streets to to fill his quota. I finally decided that I wasn't going to put my life on hold for six months just to move when it was a tad warmer. I called Big City Moving and was surprised to learn that moving in winter is actually the best time to move. Big City worked around my schedule which was extremely convenient. My fiancée moved in spring time with some over-priced company. Not only was it expensive and inconvenient but apparently they threw her stuff in with about half a dozen college student's stuff and we've been picking these ugly hair ties out of her cushions for weeks. read more

Big City Movers is a excellent company!! I have used them at least 5x never had any problems, the guys are always on time. The guys were very careful with all my stuff. I have a a few breakable statues that were wrapped with care... My white leather furniture was always wrapped, never ever had a mark on any of it. I'll start off by saying I hate the moving process, the packing, unpacking, traveling, etc. It's so stressful. My friends usually help me and it takes all day but this time around since I was moving from Boston to Rhode Island and had multiple stops, I opted to hire movers. I read the reviews on here for Big City and the negative reviews gave me anxiety but the price was the best one out of all the other moving companies I found. Mike and Kenny were my movers and they were AWESOME!!!! They came right on time, which was not what I expected, and got straight to work. They were done quickly at the first pick up stop and headed towards the next pick up location. They arrived before I did but my roommate let them in and again they got straight to work. I can get annoying with questions but they answered all my questions kindly. We were in there way a lot but they never lost their cool. They were even nice enough to move stuff that I had not included in the inventory. When we got to Rhode Island (again, they beat me there) thankfully many sister was there to let them in. They wasted no time and even set up my bed for me and moved it around when I didn't like where it was. It took them 4 hours to complete this job and the total price was perfect. I'm so glad I went with this company and thankful to Mike and Kenny for all they did. If you are moving CALL THEM!!! It'll be worth every penny. read more

The situation was that I'm moving out of state and my primary moving company gave me an outrageous estimate for the removal of some larger items of furniture from the second story balcony to the ground. I called up Big City and they were glad to help. Important points: -Great customer service. Matt provided a quote of the phone and immediately sent an email confirmation after our call. Subsequent interactions with any of their representatives were very pleasant. -They provided 830-9a window and arrived at 830 on the dot. -All the guys were helpful, courteous, and conscientious (attention to detail!). -Extra points for moving my furniture on the porch instead of leaving it out on the sidewalk and letting it get drenched in the rainstorm. This move was one of the most awful moves I've experienced. I used them about 2 years back and was cautious to leave a negative review. However, after seeing the comments from others & the management replies, I feel obligated to share my moving experience. The prices were fair, but the service was terrible. My things were strewn across the building as they put it all in the truck. My boxes were used to hold doors open & everything was thrown into the truck with heavy boxes on top. I provided my own moving blankets, and still ended up with scratches and dings on my furniture. The move ended up taking several hours over the quoted price, and thus ended up being priced higher. At one point I found the two movers have a cigarette break inside of the moving truck .. with my things. He assured me that if they went over the quoted time slot they would reduce the price to account for the break, and never did. The movers also forgot two of my boxes on the truck that had my dishes in them ... it took me a week to get them back from the mover. When he returned them he was skateboarding my dishes down comm ave ... I would not recommend going with this company. read more

Moving is my own personal definition of hell, so needless to say I was really anxious about moving our entire 3 bedroom apt across town on August 31. Fortunately, Big City Moving did an amazing job, and for much cheaper than their competitors (for the peak time of year, we were quoted $149 per hour with a fixed $75 travel rate... even with a good tip it was totally reasonable, no sticker shock here). I was extremely pleased with their service and price and would definitely recommend them to anyone. For reals. To move our whole apartment across town took from 3 PM (they were literally on time to the minute of when they quoted) to about 7:45 PM, but the 3 guys (I'm sorry, I'm crap with names, but one of them was the "MacGyver" commented on here- Mike?) were awesome, being really speedy considering the sheer amount of crap we've accumulated. Aside from taking care with our belongings (nary a scratch did I find), they were really concerned with saving us money which I was shocked about in a good way... they were super speedy (they literally took only 2 5-minute breaks that they were kind enough to check in with us to make sure it was OK beforehand, which of course it was more than OK since we were their third move that day and the poor guys looked exhausted), wanted to make sure the truck was parked closely so they had optimum access to the door, and they totally defended our move by fighting with some lady who was hogging the parking space next to us and blocking our way (she was being a nasty biatch, we had reserved those two spaces beforehand goddammit!). The biggest plus- my mom came by to drop some stuff off for me, and they wouldn't even let us carry it up the stairs to the new place ourselves. These guys totally rocked. Yelp alert: you get 5% off if you mention Yelp, and MacGyver made me promise I'd write a review of them here since they depend on word of mouth (check!). I was very glad these guys came on time and did not break anything. They weren't extremely professional, they came looking like they had just rolled in the dirt and were spitting tobacco... but they were inexpensive and you get what you pay for I guess. I moved a bit ago- halloween of '10, but their truck broke down and they left it in front of my house for like two weeks. Not really a company i'd reccomend for anyone to use- unless cash is really tight and you just want the job done quick. Perhaps these were just guys on their bad day, b/c I read tons of good reviews. I have tried over and over to resolve a problem with the owner Brendan about my daughters smashed plasma TV. I just emailed again and this is the last time to see if we can resolve the issue before I report to BBB and yelp. I am hoping in good faith they replace the TV price since the packing was incorrect and the plasma was laid down not upright during the move. I will be happy to repost when and if an resolution will be made. In good faith I am confident the TV will be replaced or refunded. I was told we needed extra insurance after if I had wanted a refund. This is unacceptable. I will repost my response from the owner whether positive or negative once I hear back. read more

Let's face it - moving SUCKS. Rather than subject my loved ones to moving my crap as cheap labor, this time around I hired Big City Moving Company. I moved from a 1400 square foot loft to my newly purchased 900 square foot condo on a Friday the day after closing on my house. I booked Big City Moving about two weeks in advance of moving and they penciled me right in, no problem. I simply had to complete a questionnaire about my stuff and the two locations (moving from and moving to). They quoted me $89/hr plus a fixed $75 travel rate. They called to reconfirm the day before the move. Fast forward to moving day. The two-man crew and one 11-foot truck arrived ON TIME! The movers were pleasant, professional and great to work with. They didn't take forever loading things into the truck either, as some movers tend to do. I had packed everything myself and as a result, had a lot of oddly shaped small boxes (cue several trips to several liquor stores for empty boxes). They were able to get a little creative with their moving equipment to get me as efficiently packed as possible, no griping, no hassle. I did have a few ramshackle-duct-tape-boxes which of course contained my most breakable items. For this they had me sign a waiver and I ended up getting a zipcar for those items (which they also helped me pack). Done. When we reached my new condo we realized that packing me up took longer than anticipated, so rather than them taking a break, I offered to buy them pizza and Gatorade, in which they gladly took me up on the offer. Moving me into my new place was a little tricky as it has a staircase with a twist at the top, that while spacious as far as South Boston staircases go, was still a challenge to move my four piece leather living room set, an antique couch, a bitch of a butcher block, a dining room set, a bookcase that had to be taken apart and oh yeah - those 810,982 liquor store boxes among other obnoxiously shaped items. But they did it, and they did it quickly! Nothing was significantly damaged in the move (c'mon - something ALWAYS breaks during a move!) and none of my walls were dented or scratched. They even helped me lug some stuff down into storage in my basement - down the 100 year-old back Southie-death staircase without a single gripe (some groaning involved with heads bumping the ceiling, but that is justified). For the two man crew, 11 foot truck for 6.5 hours including travel time, the entire shebang cost me $601 (pizza and tip not included...that would bring it to about $730). After reading the review here and calling some competitors, I chose Big City because their rates were the best ($99/hr since August is apparently peak moving season plus $50 travel time). However, my confirmation was never sent to me as promised so i called them back. The owner called back to apologize and sent me my estimate/confirmation right away. Two guys (I forget their names, but they were both nice) came about 5 minutes late (which is on-time in my book) and did a very efficient job. I actually had to pay for 3 hours for a 2 hour job because I didn't realize/forgot there was a three-hour minimum, but it was still probably less than some other companies were quoting me. I definitely reccomend these guys. Oh, and they move on Sundays! A Tip: even though their office is in Waltham, their trucks are about 1/2 hour away (i forget where), so that travel time should be estimated in. P.S. If I could give this review 4.5 or 4.75 stars i would: to me 5 stars means "perfect". read more

These guys were great! I filled out the quote estimate online, and Matt was very prompt with his response. He was also great answering questions about permits and such. The three guys who moved me were really nice and careful with my stuff. They did in 2.5 hours what would have taken my dad and I a day (my dad and I also probably would have had a hospital visit - the stairs in my apartment are more cliff-like than stair like). I used Big City Moving to move from Watertown to Waltham. For two movers with a medium sized truck, I was quoted $45 for travel and gas fees and $89/hour for work. One of the movers was a full time employee with Big City Moving and was extremely knowledgeable with how to maneuver large furniture as well as properly wrap and protect items. The full time employee admitted that during the busy Summer moving season, the company has to subcontract at times--I would recommend you ensure that you get at least one full time employee to help with your move, as they have the most experience and truly appreciate your business and desire to uphold the Big City Moving name. The actual cost for the move was under what I was quoted; so I was thrilled about that. I had a great time talking to the movers through the entire event and I have no complaints. read more

First warning: Find a reputable mover. Do not use craigslist. Called 5 movers on craigslist. One called back but said he was on a job and would call later. He did not call back. 3 others, I left messages, none called back. Now, the worst! Big City Movers! Made an appointment for them to quote a job. Matt said they would show up between 3 and 5. I asked Matt to call me when he had a better idea as I was coming from far away and was making a special trip to show them the job. I started driving in to meet the estimator when Matt called at 2:45 and said they were running late and it would be closer to 5. Fine. I said I was already almost there and would be there to wait for him to show up. Now began the problem! I waited until 5:15 and called Matt as no one showed up. Matt answered and said the guy got delayed and would not be able to make it. I said that was not right to do that to me, but maybe I'd call back tomorrow and set something up for another time. I'm a contractor and realize that stuff happens sometimes!! Well.... Matt calls me back 5 minutes later. The guy can make it in 45 minutes. I said , are you positive he can make it as: 1) Do not want to wait around and 2) I have to catch a boat and cannot wait past 6:15. He'll be there says Matt. You guessed it. No one shows up and no phone call. Almost 4 hours of my life wasted by these unprofessional movers. read more

These guys are great if you want a bunch of lazy, racists kids breaking your stuff. They showed up dressed like they'd been at a kegger and coke party all night and were late by an hour. Covered in what looked like buscuit crumbs, they proceeded to toss my stuff around like a pinata. I had to buy a new set of dishes, they did worse damage to my couch than my cat, and after I called them out on their unprofessional attitude they laughed it off. Go with these guys if you are cheap, want an excuse to buy new stuff, and love abuse. A preschool could move my stuff better than these guys. read more

It looks like some people have not had good experiences with Big City Moving. However, my experience was very positive. I made the reservation by phone, got an immediate confirmation, and the guys showed up when they said they would. The two movers (Adam and Paul) were efficient and professional. They called to let me know when they were on the way, and how long it would be. They did not waste time, and were very careful and conscientious. It is probably a good idea to try to get an appointment early in the morning so you are first on the agenda, because things always take longer than expected. read more

Excellent experience! We called on a Friday to hire someone to carry boxes up from our moving pod to our third floor walk up on the next Monday. Big City Moving Co. had someone available during our desired time slot, and got the job done quickly and professionally. They treated our things with care and were super friendly! The movers are pros at moving, they came with fancy schmancy tools and was able to pick apart and reassemble furniture in what felt like seconds. It was magical! The move didn't go quite so smoothly, but the guy who handles customer service was quick and flexible in making amendments to ensure that I pay the right amount for the services I get. If they see that you're unsatisfied, they will treat you like a princess because customer service is #1 priority. Word of advice: if you have no parking lot, then get a parking permit! I recently moved again and used Big City Moving after such a positive experience the first time around, I even got 10% for being a returning customer. They had all my furniture on file so getting the job set up was super fast. They did not disappoint! The guys hustled the entire time. Do you lack door props? Does one door keep swinging shut? Did you neglect to fasten down the pullout bed on your love seat? Go with Mike W., the MacGyver of Moving. The above problems were solved with random pieces of plywood, a well-placed quarter, and a coat hanger, respectively. Pretty sure that with a paper clip and a rubber band, Mike and company could rule the world, never mind move your stuff across town. In all seriousness, these guys were awesome from the start. Everyone in the office was great to deal with. The crew got here at 9 am on the dot. They were friendly, quick, and careful, and they didn't even so much as roll their eyes at having to navigate around some contractors at the new place. As for attention to detail, Mike regretted to inform me that he didn't think some placemats from the kitchen table had made it over. PLACEMATS! (I had actually tossed them in the corner as the table went on the truck.) And now, for the best part: They came in under-time and under-budget! During the busiest moving time of the year! Call them. 3rd time was a charm again with Big City. We combined two 1-bedrooms into a 2-bedroom apartment, all in the same town, and they were able to accommodate. Paul and the other two guys were really nice, but for some reason we are now missing a lampshade, and they left some of their tools behind. Either way, they made a hot moving day easier for us! Definitely would recommend to a friend or use them again (but I don't want to pack and move again anytime soon!). read more
