After calling them, I ran to get there before they closed and got there with one minute to spare. I was only intending to buy a tube and change it myself as to not keep them open... but Charlie offered to stay an extra 10 minutes and install it for me. (For a labor charge of course). This is the ONLY authorized bike rental service within Central Park, so don't be fooled by others who may try to haggle you. Look for the lime green shirts or go directly to the bike stand. Our bikes were maintained well and we had no issues. They do ask you to leave your ID or hotel room key as collateral during your rental. Again, no issues. Price was better than a CitiBike. We opted to rent for 3 hours and this was JUST enough to make one giant lap around Central Park with a few stops to see Strawberry fields and a couple other photo spots.

They were well built, the shifters and brakes worked well and they weren't too heavy as rental bikes in some cities can be. Unfortunately we got caught in 2 different downpours of rain and needed to shelter under a bridge for at least 40 minutes. As a result were late returning our bikes and the guy was initially going to charge us more $$ before giving me back my drivers license they'd held while we were out on the bikes. I reminded him that it'd just been raining for nearly a solid hour and we both looked like drowned rats and were soaked...It really wasn't our fault he got his bikes back a bit later than the 1 hour we'd initially rented them for. At that point he agreed not to charge us extra. 2 bikes rented for an hour cost $32.66 which was more than fair for the quality and condition.

I took the 2 hour Central Park walking tour…read more Our guide, Aaron, was very knowledgeable and shared many interesting details throughout the tour. However, I was a bit distracted by how often he consulted his phone for accuracy, and he did take a short call during the tour. I appreciated his creative use of music to help us imagine the park's history -- it was a unique touch -- though I personally didn't want to stand still quite so long for that portion. He had also planned to show us historic photos, but unfortunately, the tablet provided by the company had a dead battery, which reflected more on the company's preparation than on Aaron himself. On the positive side, we were lucky to get a VIP-style experience since we were the only two participants on the tour. Aaron was thoughtful and kind -- he even brought and offered us a poncho since it was raining. He also went out of his way to guide us on how to use the subway afterward so we could reach our next appointment on time, and he eagerly pointed out great photo spots and offered to take pictures for everyone. Overall, I'm glad I took this tour. Aaron clearly cared about our experience and made it memorable despite a few minor hiccups. FYI: this tour does not include Strawberry Fields or the Alice in Wonderland statue.

I had previously tried getting a bike from the Specialized store on the UWS and while they were friendly, their service times left a lot to be desired. Same goes for Hilltop in Williamsburg (also owned by Specialized) - those guys treated me like I was a sale/noob and really couldn't have cared less about figuring out what was "right" for me given I wasn't going to be buying a bike from them. Nice guys, but once again - backed up for weeks on the service side of things. Back to Bicycle Habitat - Matt and the team were awesome. Took their time with me after a build and helped me get sorted with both shoes and clips - adjusted my bike a bit and really made sure I got some practice clipping in/out and that I was all set to go before walking out the door. All in all spent over an hour in the shop both chatting with the guys and getting set up with the new bike. I will 100000% be bringing any and all future bike needs to the shop and will be making it known to friends/fellow bikers that this is the place to go. More than happy to support the shop - 5 star service and looking forward to my next return.

But literally I rented my bike as a walk-in - there are literally plenty of bikes for rental. Their business is not thriving enough to think so highly of themselves lol.
