The highly impressive Honey Pale Ale from Big Block Brewing.
    Alden C.

Big Block Brewing I feel has really made improvements with their beer recipes, beer options and beer creativity. I was at their Lake Sammamish taproom several years ago and recall that I wasn't as impressed then as I am now. Perhaps the brewery just needed to be around a while before it blossomed. This does indeed happen with breweries sometimes. The Redmond location is their second so they do indeed seem to be doing well. I got and immensely enjoyed their Honey Pale Ale. With honey flavor being the main characteristic it also blends together nicely with sweetness and bitterness making a very impressive pale ale. I do love a well made honey beer and this is one! Steve got more of an unusual beer, the Monohan. This was a corn based beer with a nice dryness and smoothness to it. I have had corn beers before and really like them but they are fairly rare to find so definitely try one if you are an experimentally oriented beer geek. Very happy and impressed to see that Big Block has come so far which definitely motivates me to return.

We went here after a local event and didn't care for any of the beers. We tried a handful of the kinds we typically like (ipas for my girlfriend and dark beers for me) and none of them tasted very good. Usually if the ambiance or service particularly stand out, it can make up for the beer (to a point) but neither did the time we went.

Wow. Big Block Brewing has only been open in this location since August, and they are already a top 3 brewery on the Eastside (in my book, which has tried most of them). You MUST visit here if you are a fan of the craft side of craft beer. It's the same location as the old Hi-Fi Brewing that went out of business in January. I was lucky enough to be here when the owner was, so I got some of the background to go along with my drink. He's been brewing for 30 years, and been brewing as a licensed brewer in his 3 car garage for 5ish years. He never wanted to open a business, but his home garage because a local hub for beer, and his neighbors eventually convinced him to go in to business. He seems to be doing everything the right way - brewing because he LOVES it, and staying conservative with the size of his equipment, never compromising on quality. Everything here is fresh, and you can taste it. I started off with the Bourbon Barrel Aged Scotch Ale. It was smooooth. And good. Really, really good. I then tried samples of the Raspberry blonde, Special Bitter, and Double Red (silky, frothy, delicious). There is something here for everyone (See picture of tap board). Due to licensing, you won't be able to get a growler fill just yet, he's looking to have his brewing equipment up by the end of the year - once it becomes a full "brewery" instead of just a "taproom", growler fills will be available. Based on the quality and taste, I have my new favorite brewery, and it's only just begun.

Their flights come in tool boxes!!!

This is a great spot! Unfortunately they do not allow dogs, even on their patio. Just like Black Raven Brewery, leave your furbaby at home!!! If you want a great experience with your furbaby... Postdoc is your spot!!!!

This place used to be Hi-Fi Brewing and the new occupants are a lateral move from the old place. Granted it is a taproom and not a brewery yet since they weren't brewing any beer on site. Service was friendly. Beer was average to good for the area. There were no prices anywhere which is a major negative at a place where you order at the counter. Do they fill growlers? I cant figure that out. Prices were definitely high. I got a taster flight of five 5 oz beers, mostly their standard beers and the total was more than $14. At least the tasting room no longer has the IKEA cafeteria vibe.

    Fun flight

Any plans to reopen the Redmond location?

Yes, we have lots of reorganizing to do and get our staff back together and we'll be open. Might be a bit though... Thank for checking on us! Cheers!

I really liked shuffleboard- it's a great social game because it's at table height so easy to set drinks down or gather. They also were thoughtful and put drink holders next to every hole of every game! The whole thing is full of art, places to gather, and thoughtful touches. I feel like they took lessons learned from many other locations and made this one truly *chefs kiss.

What makes it so fun is you can bring three generations of the family and everyone enjoys it. We always play the mini-golf and like playing the Duffleboard too. They also have a little kids mini-golf course for the younger kids. Their thin crust pizza is consistently good. Given that it's a games place we were pleasantly surprised at how good their pizza is. Pro tip: if you love the mini-golf as much as we do their membership it a good deal. You pay once and can mini-golf / Duffleboard for free for life. They often have a Black Friday deal on the membership.

Somehow that's part of the charm though; I've been coming by a few times a year for over a decade and haven't yet been disauaded. There's a couple of high top tables on the fully indoor side and big 8 person tables in the beer garden area which extends from the warehouse to the parking lot. No food in house but they do have food trucks occasionally (mostly on the weekends). Apparently, this entire location is closing in December. The brewing operation is moving to Bremerton and the taproom is not planned to be reopened. I suspect this was announced suddenly by the private equity firm that bought the brewery out a couple years back, as all the customers today seemed surprised and there was even a sign on the wall with December event dates printed and then crossed out after the fact. I feel terrible for the employees as I imagine none or basically none of them have kept their employment given the distance from Redmond to Bremerton. Even though this isn't my favorite brewery in town I'm sad to see them go after 30+ years here, one of the original microbreweries

Good luck because they're running out of real estate in there and the walls are dense with cuteness. I think they have a food truck on the weekends, though sadly not on our visit. And you can do a free tour of their brewery on Saturdays at 3pm. They also have a couple wine options in case the beers aren't doing it for you. The only major bummer is that they serve beverages in plastic cups. Really not a fan of that at all.

The place itself is very much an average English pub, lots of Knick-knacks on the wall which gives it a cute personality, the service was a little muddled in that they were a little clumsy and gave us the wrong bill.   Lets talk food! I ordered the Fish and Chips and the Popcorn Shrimp, its ok, but that's as much as I'd give it, the Fish and Chips 3.5/5 the fish was a little over and for the love of all that is good, where are the mushy peas, regular peas, heck I'll take baked beans... they're in the back, I know the adjacent store has 'em.
