    Greasy Cheesesteak

Just went to Big Al's for the first time. I'm a little skeptical since I have spent 30 years in the steak and deli business in Philadelphia. This place base on reviews probably makes a decent steak during the day. Unfortunately at night they seem to really drop the ball. Maybe they figure the drunker the customer the less quality the product has to be. As I'm typing this my wife just said worst cheesesteak she's ever had in her life. Super greasy super chewy. Actually smells and tastes like the grease trap. All I'm saying is that if you are the only cheesesteak joint in Delray. You need to do so much better for your customers. You actually have inspired me to consider opening a competitor cheesesteak place near you. Please do better. I'll try you again next time I'm in town to see if you take comments serious or not. Thanks for listening

Stopped here after a night out. There was someone who placed a huge order before us so the workers were trying their best to get everything out in a efficient time frame. The restaurant is small with outdoor seating. The food is definitely interesting. Being from Jersey I was hyped to see familiar options. The fries were okay and pretty average. The Mac and cheese bites came highly recommended and they were okay but nothing phenomenal. The cheese wiz sauce was good but I'd prefer a ranch personally. The Philly cheesesteaks were okay but the meat was a little tough. The hoagie was made incorrectly but we blame that on those who ordered before us. Not a bad choice on a late night but def not a first choice.

Big Al's is a no frills dive on the corner of Southeast Fifth Street and Atlantic Ave in Delray Beach. You order at the window and the are a couple of dirty tables surrounded by cigarette butts on the sidewalk. Parking is by pay meter on the street. I was going to eat somewhere else that ended up being closed so while walking down Atlantic I ended up at Al's, a place I passed thousands of times but never ended up stopping. According to the story Big Al and his son Adam were Philadelphia natives who couldn't find an authentic cheesesteak experience when they moved to South Florida. They set out to create it themselves with rib eye steaks and Italian rolls and Big Al's was born. I ordered the regular cheesesteak with onions and provolone ($12.95), with an iced tea and tip the total came to $17. A small order of fries would have been another $4.75. I cleaned off the table the best I could and dined al fresco on the avenue. They are open late, all the way to 3 AM on Friday and Saturday so it is the perfect spot to grab some food to soak up the alcohol if you are bar hopping down Atlantic. I am glad to finally knock this Delray Beach staple off my bucket list.

The staff is awesome! The prices are high and the advertised prices are not true. The prices are higher in the register even when paying cash!!!!! They tack on 20% for debit cards. Advertise your REAL prices and stop ripping your customers off. I come here every week!!

Former coworker recommended this place and I haven't been this disappointed in a while. Bread seems fresh, meat is well seasoned, and dude behind the counter was super nice but there is almost no meat. 80% bread, 20% filling. Would give it a 3/5 but decided to give it a 2/5 because the price they charge for the sandwich you get is rediculous and they even charged me for a cup of tap water! Highway robbery.

How do they do it? Authentic phillys right here in Delray! It's all in the bread. Better than Pat's and Geno's that's for sure.

Down from Philly and needed a hoagie-fix. Turkey was great, but the rolls made all the difference, nice and chewy!

I ordered the teriyaki bowl with chicken and it had no teriyaki flavor or sauce anywhere. The chicken was probably slightly marinated but I wish it tasted more like teriyaki. The grilled salmon was tasty but the poached egg that came with the Brussels sprout Cesar was full of water and undercooked so I literally didn't even eat it. The strawberry lemonade was 80% water, stick with the hangover cure. The hangover cure was very refreshing. The servers split the tips so they were all pretty helpful and attentive. Probably a good spot for cocktails but I went with my grandma so virgin drinks were the way to go. All in all I'd be back for a cocktail and the fries. The food is also pretty pricey. $11 French fries, $9 for a non-alcoholic beverage. Also when I went, the menu was limited. They weren't serving any of the 'Shareables'. I went at 3pm on a Sunday so you'd think this is prime time to have a full menu available. Service 9/10 Food 6/10 Location & ambiance 8/10 Would I go back? Yes. Vibes would bring me back and I wanna try the cocktails next time (:

Only then was I told they were "too busy" and had simply forgotten my order. To make it worse, the manager's excuse was that the truck hadn't arrived with the hot cups. That's absurd. I was sitting down, not ordering takeaway, and I was absolutely not expecting a paper cup. A sit-down customer should be served coffee in a ceramic cup, period. No real apology. No accountability. Just excuses stacked on excuses. Being busy is not an excuse for forgetting an order for an hour, and supply issues are not the customer's problem. This shows a complete lack of professionalism and basic service standards. Terrible experience. Never going back. Avoid this place. It transports you to an Italian NY deli. The place is packed, bustling spot and that alone tells you everything you need to know. You know it's good when you walk in and the place is packed. We split the Chicken Cutlet Florentine and it was absolutely incredible. Heads up: the full size is massive, so splitting it is definitely the move and still totally worth it!! The service was super friendly despite how busy it was. I had my eye on the black & white cookie too because what's an authentic Italian deli without one? The sandwich itself was good, made with quality ingredients and solid flavor overall. The bread and fillings were fresh, and you can tell they care about what they're serving. One small detail: I wasn't offered any sauce suggestions, and because of that, my sandwich ended up feeling a bit dry. I think a simple recommendation from the staff would've elevated the experience. Still, it was tasty and reasonably priced. The place is small, but it gets the job done -- very much a neighborhood deli vibe. Overall, a good, no-frills sandwich spot worth trying, especially if you're already in the area.

Not only did the staff refuse, but they also informed me it was my responsibility to verify the order was correct before leaving. As a customer, I expect a level of professional accuracy that doesn't require me to audit my own bag. When I drove back to the restaurant, the service remained dismissive. Despite being the only person in the building, I was ignored for several minutes. Having worked in the restaurant industry, I was taught that you never blame the customer for a staff error.
