Being from Philly, wanted to try a local cheesesteak place and this looked good. Headed over, ordered and brought home two cheesesteaks with fries. How was it? 10 inch steak had the right amount of meat on it... and they use amorosos rolls from Philly.. only issue is that there's just a bit of extra grease and it just sogged the roll. Think they need to keep the roll away from the heat and pack some lettuce in bottom to control the sog. Be sure to order it cut in half. They should just do that anyway. I've been back a couple more times since posting a review. Unfortunately the food wasn't as good as it was before. The cheesesteak was dripping with the oil they cook it in. The hotdog was undercooked. I found that Jersey Mikes has a better cheesesteak by far. Too bad, I'll need to find a place for dogs when I'm craving one. Really about 4.5 stars. Just because of the size relative to the price. They have tvs so I could watch the CFP semifinals while there. The Philly could have been a little bigger for the price. The 1/2 lb chicken sandwich was very good. The condiments were excellent (see photo) especially the red spicy relish in the upper right and the pickled tomatoes (or whatever they are). The Philly Grill makes amazing sandwiches. We had the Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich and a hotdog (12" long). This lunchtime repast was a 'trip down memory lane' since we've both spent time in Philadelphia, PA. The hotdog was humongous and delicious. The Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich was delicious and more then enough to feed two (unless they're both gluttons). I Like that it is served on Philly Amoroso rolls. Inside is adorned by Philly sports paraphernalia which is cool. Didn't look the cleanest the day we went. We were there for lunch today, and at 1pm the place was relatively busy. The food is always good and freshly prepared. However, their drink glasses are so small that, with ice, you get about five sips and have to constantly keep refilling the glass from their do-it -yourself beverage area. They serve crinkly french fries, which are always delivered steaming hot. The sandwiches are loaded with meat and the requested additions. The restaurant is neat and organized and the staff, while not particularly helpful, are not rude or unpleasant. I wish counter service restaurants would advise their staff to periodically check on the diners at the tables. There was an older couple there who obviously would have difficulty walking back to the beverage station and, given the ridiculously small size of the beverage cups, did without refills. A woman with a walker was having difficulty opening the door to exit while carrying her hand bag and drink cup. The staff ignored her and made no effort to help open the door even though there were no customers ordering at the time. I wish all fast food or casual restaurants could emulate the service of employees at Chick-fil-A and Culver's. read more

Full disclosure -- I don't think I've ever been to Philly, although I've driven through Pennsylvania a few times. If I have been, it was with my ex-husband and the memory is vague and well blocked.. That being said, this is the authentic style cheese steak. The steak is shaved beef. One old recipe says to use paper thin deli roast beef and another said to use an electric shaver on a rib eye (eek!). So if you're looking for tidbits or chunks of steak, you won't get it here. The sandwich can be ordered with or without grilled onions and your choice of cheese (I chose provolone; he did pepper jack). Plus for no additional charge, you can add grilled sweet peppers, lettuce, tomato, chopped onion, etc. I added some grilled sweet peppers which were a mix of red and green. The small size sub is 6" and the large is 9". The small was perfect size for me I made it into a combo by adding a fountain drink and fries. Luckily we asked for well done fries. They were fine, but I wish they'd been homemade instead of the restaurant supply frozen ones. Along side the counter, they have help yourself dill pickle chips, marinated small hot peppers, a spicy salsa, and dispensers for ketchup, etc. For fountain drinks they have coke products plus Fanta birch beer (the sweet red kind). You can also purchase some branded bottled sodas. You order at the counter. There is a pick up window, but they brought our food to us st our table. They also have burgers, wings, gyros, and chicken Phillies among other things. They have Nathan's hot dogs and a foot long might call my name in the future if they can grill it well done. They also have a case with colorful Italian ices in various flavors. It's a not fancy, local neighborhood kind of place. So throw on your jeans and head on over when you want a decent burger or philly style sandwich. read more

We ordered delivery, simple order cheesesteak and burger with 2 orders of fries. We are less than1.5 miles, so you would assume the food would arrive relatively warm/hot. Nothing was even close to warm. Onions cold but at least they were crisp. Cheesesteak had mushrooms and onions arrived cold threw it in airfryer, also it was soggy husband would not order again. Burger was requested medium rare, it was well well done and yes cold. There was no helping it. Also the bun was burnt. I intentionally did not add lettuce, tomato or pickle so it would arrive warm. I've been there more than a few times and in general the food is very good. Today I had the special combo cheese steak 10 inches with mushrooms and melted cheese. It was very good. With the combo comes with fries. and a soft drink, I could have given a 5 stars but they should do something about the fries. They're the frozen type with waves in them, they're outdated! Only go here if you want to get something different than you ordered. I picked up last weekend and told them no onions on my sandwich I got home and it was loaded down with diced onions so small I could not even scrape them out. I called them and even though they use a delivery service they wanted me to drive all the way back down there to get a new sandwich. When I told them I would not do that, the manager asked if I used a credit card and said he would refund me. No surprise, he never did it. My sister and I went there for a Philly chicken sub. Years ago we went there, and the food was amazing, but this was not our experience this time. The food was really yucky. The chicken was dry from over cooking it and the green bell peppers on the sub were pickled so that was nasty. Our fries were overdone too. Then I had the ketchup dispenser shot over my shirt with little speckles of ketchup. It was so upsetting to me, as I was looking forward to the food I once had there, and it was not the same. I wondered when I got there why it was not busy on a Friday night like it used to be, as last time, there was a line out the door and this time there were only like four people there to eat. So maybe the place has been bought out and the new owner doesn't have the passion for good food. I popped in here on the way home today to get lunch for my son and I for takeouts. The place only had a couple customers. Something told me that's not good. They have quite a menu full of hot dogs, phillys, hoagies, chicken sandwiches, wraps, wings, salads, and burgers with a selection of sides. The place was clean to an extent and there's plenty of seating. I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich with a side of cheese fries. Since I had a bogo coupon, I got another sandwich for free with onions. My son got a kid's meal consisting of a hot dog, fries, and rainbow water ice for dessert. I noticed that they do NOT have Cheez Whiz here. If I would have known this prior to coming in, I would have save the trip. Ugh! The real Philly knows not to do that. Maybe for hot dogs or nachos, but don't do it to cheese steaks. Ultimate fail. By the way, it took 15 minutes for me to get my order. I was the only one in there waiting for food and another person came in after me. Somehow, it took that long to get this order done. The cooks took their time and I was wondering how much longer the hold up was going to be. Finally, the cashier said my name and I got out of there. The food was packaged well and my son and I were ready to dig in. I was disappointed in the cheese steak sandwich. There was no seasoning on the meat at all, which meant no flavor. I actually had a couple pieces of my son's hot dog and it was fantastic. I can't believe that my fries were better than the sandwich itself. The bread was ok, but I was not a happy camper. Although I hate what styrofoam does to marine life, I was grateful they used it, because my sandwich was kept warm until I arrival almost an hour later. Today, my friends and I were treated so badly at this restaurant that I feel compelled to share our experience. For years, this Philly Grill has been my go-to place for steak sandwiches (outside of Philly, of course!). Today, on my recommendation, 3 foursomes (that's me + 11) of my golfing buddies were going there for lunch after playing. My group of 4 arrived at about 11:20 (we know the place opens at 11:30), so we tried to take seats outside to wait. (The chairs are locked/chained together for security to avoid theft)... So we were just standing around. One of our group opened the door to ask if the chairs could be unlocked & was immediately chastised, (chastised is a nice was of saying HOLLERED at) by a young woman employee with a nasty tone & lousy attitude... WE'ER NOT OPEN YET... she snapped... TOU CAN'T COME IN! (Mind you, this was said an 87-year-old VERY GENTLE man who's only misstep was opening an UNLOCKED door!!!) When I told her I thought she was out of line talking to a customer that way, she turned her ire and attitude toward me, told me she could talk to anyone, anyway she wanted! THEN, she said... "You better be careful because when you get inside, you will be dealing with me for your order!" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? SHE ACTUALLY THREATENED ME! WAS SHE GOING TO SABOTAGE MY FOOD? My friends and I were astonished... At that moment, there was zero chance we would stay, so I called my buddies. We walked the 50 yards down the sidewalk to Dominic's III. (A wonderful Italian & pizza/subs restaurant in the same shopping center) where we all met. We walked in the door and were greeted in chorus by 5 employees with a most cheerful. .. HI! HOW ARE YOU? COME ON IN & HAVE A SEAT, WE'LL BE RIGHT WITH YOU! ALL OF US had a terrific meal in a place where we were welcomed & appreciated! We are all acutely aware that restaurant staffing post pandemic is difficult, but this is indefensible! read more

Although the food quality was good, I had only ONLY one (2) order of Wings- that's 10 wings. With a side of Bleu Cheese Dressing. It is suppose to ALSO come with Celery Sticks. I received THREE (3) Celery Sticks. THREE. One was 2.5 inches; One was 3 inches, and the last was 3 inches. Having lived in Philadelphia for six years (in college) and another year nearby, have a pretty high standard for cheesesteaks. This cheesesteak was about average. The combo with fries and a drink was only $2.00 more. That was a good deal. The cheesesteak was not memorable. My wife makes cheesesteak for me and her's are better. (She is a good cook). Nice Philly Cheese Steak location with many other things to choose from in the menu. Loved the chicken wings, asked for them plain with hot sauce on the side. They give you plenty of sauce and the wings are a nice size and well cooked. My hubby asked for the philly cheese steak with onion rings. The rings were also a nice size and crispy and he says the meat had good flavor and the bread was very good. They have a soda machine, 4 different types of iced tea and Hanks brand beverages with many flavors to choose from. They also offer a variety of flavors of Philly water ice. Philly Grill is one of my favorites... grew up near Philly so I feel like I know cheese steaks... the product (especially the bread), is A1, & most of the time, employees are cordial & friendly. Having said that, on more than a few occasions, customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I live about 8 miles from store... today, called my order in, they got it wrong & I didn't know until I got home. When I called to let them know they didn't give me the extra steak I ordered, the guy I spoke with simply said, "well, I didn't charge you for the extra steak, so no problem..." he followed that with "what do you want me to do?" No offer to rectify... No offer to do something extra on my next visit... Nothing to make me WANT to go back! The only thing it did accomplish was to make me want to share a negative experience... Honestly pretty surprised to read other reviews about how poor service was at this location - we had the exact opposite experience. After a very long day of driving nearly 400 miles starting at 5 am, the last thing I wanted to do was think about food on a Thursday night. My partner suggested Philly Grill because I requested an ice cream cake from the Carvel next door to end the day. I was a little disheartened after reading the reviews and he confessed he hasn't eaten there in a couple of years but our exhaustion made us not want to search any further than we needed for food. I got a 7 inch philly steak with melted cheddar, sweet peppers, grilled onions, and mushrooms. He got the 10 inch philly steak with grilled onions sweet peppers Pepper Jack cheese and melted cheddar. We also got an order of the onion rings and an order of bacon cheese fries. The sides were super spot on and our sandwiches were absolutely delicious! We ordered takeout and drove the 10 minutes over and our food was fresh and waiting for us as we walked in the door. I will admit that the melted cheddar on the subs tasted a little off but I definitely think that's because it's under the meat and peppers and the juices of the other items alter the taste of the cheese, because the cheese on the fries tasted just as it should have. If that's a deal breaker for you, just ask them to put the cheese on top (I think I will next time). All in all, great service, they were friendly in ordering and pickup, and our food was everything we needed to end a long day. I look forward to eating there again! read more
