Truly a great location on Grant Line road. While have a large floor space to house products. I like the fact that you don't feel cramped into a tiny space like most other Big 5 stores. And that there is a possibility that the selection will grow to fit the available space. I didn't find anything that I needed on my recent trip but I did find the staff willing to help with answering my questions and finding the right prodding l product. This has got to be the WORST Sporting Goods store in the area. The products they sell are completely garbage. When you go to return a failed product, Management tries their best not to accept the return. I was told today by the Manager that is was my "Lucky Day" because he was willing to accept my return for a collapsible wagon which the wheel fell off after it was clicked and secured per the instructions. His comment was "Well, you used it"... of course I used it, that's why I bought it. Idiot.. I tried returning a chair previously that fell apart after just a few uses. I paid $65 for it and the best they would offer for a return amount was $17.00!!! Thus is a very shady store with piss poor quality merchandise. Returned an item and wanted to shop for another item and they didn't allow us to purchase dues to "beliefs of having that item be returned again". Lost a customer and a sale. The day before when we shopped the staff were more friendly. The younger staffs were more lax and friendly while my last visit had more stricter, older staffs. I wish I could give a good review but every time I go by their store the doors are locked, no business hours posted outside establishment nor does Yelp have their business hours posted online. Do not purchase from this location. If anything needs to be returned they will refuse to facilitate the return, EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE THE RECEIPT and are within the return period. My wife and I use the same account and have now gotten used to using Apple Pay when making purchases. We bought a few things at this Big 5 and one item did not work out. I attempted to return this item and was told by the person working that I could not because my wife used her phone to purchase it. Disappointed with the service at this store. My boyfriend and I went into the store to take the test for our gun license but was informed we would not be able to take the test without purchasing a gun that same day. It's hard to believe the policy especially after going with my cousin to another location and him taking the test for his gun license without purchasing a gun. I went in with my husband looking for a pair of waterproof warm boots. They had what we needed and we looked around to see if we needed anything else. This review is based on the lack of common sense by the male employee who answered the phone. Let me explain. I was in Tracy, CA for work. I decided to stop by Big 5 in Tracy. I pull into the lot realizing the big 5 was inside the mall. I decided to call the store to find out where they were located. When I called, a male employee answered the telephone. I asked the employee where exactly is the store and how to easily access the store. I told him I was near the JC Penney's. He goes on to tell me to access the store via the old Sears location. Perfect. I drove around to the back and walked in. I walked to Big 5 just to find the store was closed. The sign said they open at 11:00. Here is where the common sense should have kicked in. This employee knew I was on the mall property. He should have told me the store does not open until 11:00 but he didn't. Come on bud, use your head. Now I am outside the store waiting 45 minutes until the store opens. Once they open, I was greeted and they had what I needed. Lucky for me, it gave me enough time to Yelp the store. It took me just a hot minute to figure out that this is actually inside the mall. I ended up calling them, and they got me headed in the right direction. But as an outsider passing through town (I have only been to Tracy one other time... I think) I wasn't familiar. I should have just looked at the Yelp pin drop more carefully, because it's right on. Head over to the west side of the mall and pop in. I don't love malls, but let's not hold that against them. Generally, I'm a little ambivalent about Big 5. Whereas Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops are all about the outdoors kind of sporting goods, and Dick's is, and Sports Authority was, all about the team sports, this is like a meet in the middle kind of thing. As a result, you can find a lot of gear for different disciplines, but they don't really specialize in any of them. Their strongest variety comes in the shoe section, IMO, which has a mixture of lower-end and middle of the road brands and styles. Great for folks on a budget. I came here looking for backpacking meals. Hurrah! They have them. Dehydrated food is never cheap, and these were $9-10 which is a dollar or two more than I'm used to paying. But still, they had them and I didn't have to drive to the next town (out of my way) to the REI to find them. I looked for a Platypus bag for water as well, but they only had Camelblack bladders--the full hose-hookup kind. I just wanted water storage. Oh well. They do sell firearms here. I have no idea what the rules are in California, but it looked like they had a basic assortment of your more popular .22 rifles, shotguns, and other models. I was glad to have found this spot, even if it wasn't my favorite sporting goods stop, they did come through for me and I got what I needed! read more

Kieth the store manager is rude. Impatient and does not fit in with his role. He would be better at stocking. He can't handle dealing with educated people who don't just take no for an answer . If you ask questions in regarding his policies he makes them up as he goes along. Don't let anyone ask him to buy something if it's not the person asking them he won't let you buy it. ? He also doesn't wear a mask appropriately not covering the mouth and nostrils. The store is also a mess and he just seems unhappy. Livermore is much nicer and Manteca store better people. On Saturday August 8 2021 , I was in the west valley mall awaiting to get a haircut. I told the barber I was going to big 5 . I needed some patted gloves for my workouts at Planet fitness. I tried on a belt and gloves. I picked the ones I needed as I looked up I saw the store employee watching me. Let me explain my dilemma. If you're going to watch me, watch me to my face, don't sneak round . Ask me to my face if I need help, this will let me know you're watching me, as you do all the African-American customers. I'm a US Army Veteran, I have a car, a nice house, I'm a former police officer and firefighter. I have a degree. The store is underrated. Went to Big 5 in Tracy and had awful service. The manager by the name of Keith was very rude and had an attitude problem. I was asking him about a product that was in the store and he started talking to me very rudely and like I was an idiot. So I walked away and asked another employee that was actually very nice and was able to answer my questions. But in the mitts of all of this I did hear him talking to one of the employees and he was very rude to her to. Someone from corporate really needs to teach this guy how to be a manager and respect his customers and employees. 11.6.2016. I went in to purchase a .22 rifle. Though I was the first in line and gave the proper and legal paperwork. The tall dorky guy behind the counter while ignoring me and serving 3 others, overhead of me while I was on the phone with my friend. I mentioned I needed to teach my wife to shoot. He now says that I was purchasing this as a gift for someone else and refused to sell me the gun. I told him it was for myself and why are you eavesdropping on my personal phone call. I went to another store and purchased not a display item but a new unscathed gun which is all I would have purchased anyway. (pen code 16990 sub g 27915, 27920 sub b ) One can transfer a legal firearm between husband and wife without the use of of registered gun dealer as Long as gun and parties are legal to transfer. Which we are. The counter clerk and Big 5 broke the law in refusing to sell me, a legal American citizen this fire arm. Horrible customer service! I could not believe how inconsiderate the man behind the gun counter was. He seemed more interested in a conversation with another employee than helping us. He took a phone call and actually took the gun out of my boyfriends hand before he was done looking at it. Then, when my boyfriend asked a few questions he barely acknowledged him and kept talking to the other employees behind the counter. I'm pretty sure one of the girls was the manager as well. Beware, just returned a 3rd folding chair. Sales guy says this one is rated 500 lds and fell apart completely with 200 lbs person on it. The manager rudely said there are defective products. But this guy never apologized for the 3rd returned chair. The manager never took the chair out of the back to see how badly and where it failed. The chair lasted only ONE use on a firm walkway. This Big 5 management does not care. Oh and we bought shoes there that did not last past 2 months. So I guess defective product run rampant at this location. The young lady who processed my refund was polite, maybe she should be the manager and they guy who took my chair be demoted to back room stock boy. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I've always liked Big 5 over those big sporting good stores like Sport Chalet or Sports Authority. Big 5's prices are always nicer. But that doesn't mean their customer service is always good. It took me so long to find an employee to help bring a shoe size to me. On top of that, three of them were chit-chatting while other customers needed help as well. I stood by the cashier for more than 5 minutes waiting to purchase my items. I even walked around the store and not one employee was present! I had to wave at the security cameras to get their attention! I also tried returning an item I bought the same day, and I have to wait 10 days Horrible store policy. Ridiculous service. They can't accommodate to the few customers they get? After these ten days pass I hope to never deal with the manager named Sean and the employee named Chris. read more

Go here early in the morning that's when the store is at its best, don't go later in the day the store will be thrashed especially around the holidays. The people here usually know what they're talking about, but always do your own research before you come in.
