Despite my dad having multiple exchanges (with some mismatched receipts), the Customer Service rep/cashier Savannah was excellent. Not only was she patient with us, she also offered an option for my dad to consider (i.e. transfer unused health fitness credit onto a store gift card, which has no expiration, so my dad would no longer have to be concerned with the "use it or lose it" worry of any unused credit). As I was ready to pay, I saw two cashiers standing by the cash register and neither one said anything to me when I was clearly ready to pay. When I was finally noticed, neither one greeted me. We haven't felt so racially violated to this degree in a very long time, by the "manager" Angela at the West Covina location: 543 N Azusa Ave, Covina, CA 91722 I am a combat veteran of 8 years in service in the US Army, and my wife is a correctional officer with the LA County Sheriffs department. My wife has always relied on me insight when deciding what kind of firearm to purchase. At 17:20 on April 9, 2020, we returned to the store with documentation in order to make our decided purchase. We handed my wife's documentation to Angela who was called forward to the Guns and Ammo department. Angela then proceeded to verbally scrutinize our Marriage certificate saying "Iv never seen one like this before" as if to insinuate it wasn't valid. This was done right in front of 3 of her colleagues who were busy opening Snicker bars and throwing them away. Not that there's any problem with disposing of bad inventory, but take that somewhere else.. In fact, originally someone else was supposed to help us, but she left the keys to the gun rack in her personal vehicle... Angela went ahead and ran the background check anyway. When it was cleared OK, she said that she was not comfortable selling my wife the .22 savage rifle because she "thinks its really for me (her husband)". I would have had her run my background too just to prove a point except I didn't have a copy of my birth certificate. Angela did take the liberty of checking for my drivers license for "Veteran" status . She made us feel horribly racially profiled on no grounds whatsoever, then went ahead and ran my wifes background just to deny her anyway on a "personal feeling". She should have just said that before wasting our time waiting for the background check. Angela contradicts any reason she had, and her attitude toward us was completely unwarranted. What a horrible feeling we had. Very embarrassing, and for no reason. If she had felt this way, then she should have never ran the background or had us drive back home to get the documentation that we required. She ought to be ashamed of the way she conducted herself. I want to also add that the entire staff seemed to have a very laid back lazy demeanor. I supposed this could be due to very poor leadership example. read more

Absolutely worst customer service ever. Marissa was ridiculously rude. I bought 4 items, the price came to $43.03, she tells me we're having a coin shortage and she has no pennies but can give me $.95 cents instead of $.97. So I said that won't be ok, why should I eat the difference because your corporate business isn't prepared? It's actually illegal to over charge me because you are short. She says "are you really going to cry over two pennies?". Yes I watch my pennies, that's why I'm here buying stuff and you'll be working here till your 60(I didn't tell her this). The manger on duty a young man is aloof and had no idea what was going on. Didn't seem to understand how rude that was and didn't seem to care that she was still giving me attitude right in front of him. I really appreciated Adina's help as I searched for the right and affordable pair of running shoes. She helped recommend several pairs and would help prepare the shoe for me to put on easily. I also got help from another young man who was just about to go on his lunch break but kindly took the time to answer my question (I didn't realize he was on lunch break until later). I would have given them more stars but I had to find them myself cause like other comments stated, it's understaffed. However, the staff is friendly and helpful once you do find someone! Such a messy store! The employees were too concerned about their yelp reviews chit chatting, rather than ask if they could help me. I was literally trying to look for a specific shoe for like 10 min right next to like 4 staff (the staff was pretending to be folding & organizing the stuff next to the shoes). They were talking loud enough for me to hear everything they said. Not once did they look at me to ask if I needed help! They were just talking about their yelp reviews. Planning for a camping trip, this is the place to go. We bought a flashlight, pocket knife, and a sleeping bag all under $75. Upon arrival, they provided a mask for my boyfriend since he forgot his. By far the worst customer service ever.. We had visited this location last night and there was NOBODY available to assist. The associates were all crowded at the register (no customers) eating pizza and just talking very loud. Maybe about 10 mins into waiting around, I waved down a guy.. he just yelled from across the way if we were alright.. um, yes, could you get your ass over here and help me? He was very sluggish while attempting to fulfill our needs. During check out, the rude Filipina working the register told me to go to the other register clerk. As I walked around to the other clerk she then tells me to go back to her! After finishing our transaction, she rudely tosses my receipt and starts chatting with another customer. This is the Harbor Freight of sporting goods. Quality of workout equipment is mediocre. I've had to return weight plates after getting home and realizing they were misshapen. Wanted to purchase several $100 worth of equipment/gear. I subscribe to the newsletters so I had two different $10 coupons. They wouldn't let me split my purchase to save $20. I stopped by two weeks ago to buy some new workout shorts & shirts. I was immediately greeted by Morgan, the store's cashier. She asked me what I was looking for and then directed me to the area of the store that contained my items. After finding what I wanted I went back to the cashier and when I commented that the prices of the particular items I chose were quite expensive, she asked if I had seen the discount clothing area and directed me to it...a completely different part of the store. I checked there and found a few items I liked and added them to my original purchase. The store itself was a little smaller than other Big5 locations I've been to, but it was organized and clean. The one downside; I had a similar experience to many other Yelp reviewers. Several of the floor staff, including the Manager, walked by me and looked directly at me, making eye contact, but not one of them said "hello" or asked if I needed assistance. I went shopping here for shoes for a christmas present for my little sister. When I walked in the store, nobody wanted to help me. I found a manager near the shoe section and he told me I should ask for help from the shoe department. Have you ever been brushed off by a manager? There was nobody in the shoe department! He didn't even offer to call anyone. Finally I got helped and bought the shoes... I didn't even realize the shoes didn't have wheels on them (they were heelies). I was in the same spot for what I counted as 15 minutes and no one asked if I needed any help or even acknowledge my presence. This store has a nice layout and seems to carry a decent amount of merchandise. Here is the rub: multiple items do not have prices, all throughout the store. We found athletic socks that had bright pink sale stickers on them. When we went up to the register, one pair we grabbed didnt have a pink sticker and the other pair did. When the socks were scanned they came out two dollars higher than the original printed price on the item. We pointed out the pink price sticker, and the factory printed original price. The manager abruptly told us that was not the right price, even though the stickers were on many socks, which were both the same type from the same rack. There was no negotiating, pointing out the fact that the items had the pink price on them all throughout the rack, etc...we would have to pay full price...she took the pink price off and went to the rack to remove the rest. This is POOR BUSINESS and we left without making the purchase. It was so frustrating to go throughout the store, looking for prices, only to find nothing and then to find sale prices that they would not honor. I wont be back soon, that's for sure. read more
