I frequent this store 3 or 4 times per month. In the last year or so, I have experienced nothing but exceptional and friendly service by both employees and management. The "1 day deals" are a great value, priced even below sale prices. Only on one occasion did I NOT find the item I was looking for. I've also been out of town during the 1 day sale and called in to management asking if they could hold the price for me. On both occasions, they eagerly accommodated me. I've read the negative reviews in previous months and my only comment is, either these reviewers overly exaggerated their experiences or, this store has really turned things around so far as customer service is concerned. Believe me, I am a savvy shopper and do not tolerate poor customer service. I give this store 5 stars and highly recommend this Ceres, Ca. Big 5 business establishment! read more

Slow service I stand there 25 mts never say I'll b right with you . Only one person in the ammo section

After waiting 30 minutes to be seen. Jena(manager) tells us she is leaving in the next minute. We informed that we have been waiting for over 30 minutes to be helped, if she could just help us. she gave us every excuse she could and told/informed us that she is pregnant and tired and going home. Where do I begin. Read some of the reviews on here first... Some I laughed at, some had me puzzled, and some I was speechless lol. (If your review fits one of those, it's probably you) Well. I had good experiences here and at other big 5 locations. I made a fairly large purchase and every employee were pretty good. I dealt with both managers, women and male, and seen a lot of negative reviews about them. They were helpful and were patient . Was busy at times and was hard to get 1 on 1 help with my purchase. Now why the 4 stars.... the area this place is in has gotten horrible! My only negative review I would say, is the homeless transients, that walk by, sleep nearby, or their walking the parking lots. Some even walk in the store and look suspicious to me and makes it hard for me to shop as I don't feel comfortable here. Feeling uncomfortable in a time like it is right now, isn't safe and I would feel safer. If a security guard was present at all times. Sadly. This will be my last time shopping here and I will make the trip to Turlock or Modesto locations. read more

I really don't understand Big 5. This store seemed well-organized but didn't have many customers. In many ways, they carry the same things that Target, Walmart, and Kmart have but at higher prices. I looked at the clearance shoes and didn't find anything in my size but that happens too often in most stores. In general, the chain doesn't have a lot of shoes to offer. It seems to be more about camping gear with some exercise equipment. They had some surprising deals on items that I already had bought at a higher price. I really didn't expect the store to be so nice, but it's probably the nicest location I've visited so far. read more

BEWARE: Once you leave the store they WILL NOT return ANYTHING. They will inspect every inch and find the most incredible reason for not approving a return! Horrible customer service and even worse manager ! I've purchased here MANY times. The ONE time I decided to return skates that didn't fit well they REFUSED. Even in box with a receipt ! The manager was a white male who was defensive as soon as he approached me. His demeanor was rude and unprofessional and he even put a "register is closed" sign in my face as I was speaking to him. Horrible customer service. The people in ammo were no help. Very rude and did not seem to want to help. Seemed very racist as well. I'm Hispanic. The manager is Caucasia wearing a American flag mask acting like I had no money for what I wanted to buy and did not want to help me with things threw out the store I was interested in purchasing. I left with nothing after waiting in line 45 minutes they tried to let other people go ahead of me because ammo was ONE of the things I needed, I also needed other things! The manager was very rude and racist, I was not the only Hispanic in their and the other man that was, was also having issues and was complaining because they did not seem to want to help at all!! I just tried purchasing ammo I'm not a big gun person I'm a woman my husband just purchased me a gun only because of the craziness going on so I went in not really knowing what I needed this would of been my second time purchasing bullets the first time not this store they were very friendly and helpful but for some odd reason this guy got defensive right away and give me an attitude not sure if it was because of my race I'm Hispanic and the guy was cal cation I've been getting an awful lot of racism lately wouldn't be surprised if this is another case or it might of been because im woman not a guy, I did see that he was kindly helping the guy next to me. Gotta say, I've never felt compelled to go through the trouble of posting a "bad review" and ragg on anyone, but good God.... my experience today was nothing short of incredible. While attempting to buy about $500.00 worth of ammo and assorted fishing supplies (if given the chance), as well as an investment of 45+ minutes to be finally met by "the manager" that really only managed to waste several peoples' time in the process. Big 5's ammo Czar refused my business on account of the fact(s) that I: 1. have moved to a different home address since I received my drivers license... every gun/ ammo purchase in the past decade has reflected this (Not to mention I bought a fishing license just moments prior, with the same ID) uhhhh...... k 2. The ammo czar's gross incompetence and frankly, huge lack of respect was matched only by what his true passion seems to be.... avoiding customers at the gun counter and staying perched at the face mask enforcement zone up front. Please, designate an individual that can grasp the significance of having a basic understanding of a storefront's given inventory, and how to procure a transaction. UPDATE: I suppose I was better off buying that same product, though for a bit more $ (worth it) an hour later with zero issues from my local FFL. Keep fightin' the good fight, Big 5. read more

A bunch of kids seem to run this store. The welcoming committee seemed too fake and didn't ask if we needed any help after our entrance. They (a blonde girl and a brunette boy) just stood in a corner and had a jolly conversation while on the clock. It's a dumpy store and in a very bad location. Won't be coming here again. ok, so I go in on a Sunday morning so its almost empty inside, more employees than customers. I grab some sneakers and head to check out. The one customer in the store is a complete idiot. He has $275 worth of merchandise so he swipes his card, insufficient funds for most of the stuff. So he swipes his ATM card, still not enough. So the checker, his first day otj, is befuddled what to do. So Mr out-of-cash says " hey man, put back a shirt". The cahiers stares off into space like the answer might be dangling out there. So he calls the manager over, meanwhile there is now 3 customers in check out. The Manger swipes his magical manager card and nothing. So he calls the bank or credit card company or even Big 5 HQ. Then the idiot with no money says " cancel the whole order" so the cahier stares back out into space andvthe manager tells new guy how to do this. They have to re-scan all of the merchandise and mean time, the broke idiot says " um, like, can you put $200 back on the card and $50 on the debit and the rest in cash" REALLY? So manager says sure and starts the process all over. Now we are 5 in line, 15 mins has passed and the broke guy never ever apologizes. One they are done doing all he requested, he turns and leaves. The manager goes back into his cave and 6 customers are left without apology, and waiting. Mr manager needs to be FIRED!!!!! Two other employees are chatting over in firearms all the while a second cash register is NEVER opened. Never again will I darken their doorway. Morons, especially the guy who has zero funds but is dissallustional enough to think he has $275 on his card. read more

None of them are experienced in any of the things they are selling there. It's very difficult to find what you want because they can't answer any of your questions. Literally none of them know anything about it and I get if you're not into it but you work at big 5 dude lol you have to have some type of knowledge about the company you're working for read more

An awesome store with great management and employees we had crappy service at the dale rd store and decided to give this one a chance and they way over did it with a clean store no boxes or ladders in the way of shopping employees that all smiled and came looking for you to ask if you needed help not like Jennifer in the dale rd store that tried to hide and then was snotty with me when I asked for help anyway back to this store they had everything we needed and then some lol we went in for a pair of shoes and found them and bought three hydration packs also thank you big 5 Ceres on hatch rd you guys are awesome we will be back even tho we don't come down here very often read more

My daughter went to exchange a pair of shoes she had purchase the day before. The young man in the shoe department was very nice and got the shoes from the back. We went to the front to exchange them. We waited in line a long time. No one apologized for our wait or anything. The cashier couldn't understand why we were exchanging them for the same shoe. Called the manager and he looked at them and told her why. My daughter had a receipt and was treated very rude. Another clerk apologized to the lady behind us for the long wait. The only thing we could think of the rudeness was because we were the only white shoppers. I will never shop at this store!!!! read more

Then told me exactly when they would have them back in stock. so I returned today and a man named James help me out who was very helpful and very professional answered all my questions and took care of me from start to finish. My wife bought me some slip on sandals and they were a size too small! I went to return them and the gentleman at the counter told me to go ahead and go back there and pick out some new ones. I went back there and attempted to have the salesman get me the exact same pair of sandals in the size I needed and he did not have them. So I requested him to get me another pair of sandals in the size I needed and they did not have those as well, so instead of just coming out and telling me "sorry we don't have those either", he brought me out a pair of sandals they had in stock they were in my size that were similar to what I was looking for. I went ahead and bought them they were the exact same price and almost the exact same color. The helpful salesman saved himself and myself time, which is always appreciated! Nice store, nice staff, sucky location. I have punched many items for my pool here though & have been happy with my purchases. Their deals on rafts for floating were awesome. My husband and I got a two person raft & it was around $40 & perfect size with an ice chest. It was a rest but in my opinion. read more
