    Reuben with Fried potatoes
    Laurie M.

First time here tonight... excellent service, very clean place, excellent food AND prices! We ordered the Reuben and the Jager Schnitzel dinner...both very good! Next time we'll try the pretzel with beer cheese and one of their burgers.. If you're into axe throwing or playing pool, there's that too. Convenient location right on Hwy 59. Check it out.. super nice owners!

Here's the updated If you're looking for a fun and unique night out, this German pub and axe-throwing joint is the place to go! The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Before you even get started, they teach you how to throw axes safely and effectively, which made the whole experience so much more enjoyable. When I had a bit of trouble, the owner even stepped in to give me a personalized lesson--a thoughtful touch that made the night unforgettable. The food is absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the Reuben--it's packed with flavor--and the bier cheese pretzel is the perfect indulgence. The atmosphere is lively and inviting, with pool tables, a full bar, and clean facilities (even the bathrooms were spotless!). This spot is the perfect mix of fun activities, great food, excellent service, and a warm, welcoming environment. Whether you're with friends, on a date, or just looking for something different, you won't be disappointed!

WOW! Authentic, delicious German food and Draft German Beer. Truly a unique find on the edge of Gulf Shores/Foley From the moment we walked through the door, owner Karin welcomed us. I haven't had German food this good since my last trip to Bavaria over a decade ago. Karin has a limited menu, but she cooks everything personally and it is ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! Get the Pretzel, get the Schnitzel, get the Bratwurst, get the Sauerkraut, get the home style potatoes - you won't be disappointed. We came back twice in the same week just for the food alone - a welcome departure from the numerous tourist heavy restaurants that offer mediocre fried food. If the food isn't enough to draw you in, pool tables, shuffleboard, darts (all free) and axe throwing ($ for 35 min) are available. A number of flatscreen TVS line the bar area. Axe throwing was a blast, and a great way to work up an appetite. The icing on the cake was the delicious German beer on tap. I was more than happy to get an ample stein - or two - of Hoffbrau Haus (landmark restaurant in Munich). Bier Shack was super clean and well cared for. Karin has put a lot of passion into her establishment. Get out and support a local business owner who is doing something novel and different in Gulf Shores/Foley - a welcome departure from fried food and overpriced mediocre seafood. Thank you Karin!

I've been a regular here at Bier Shack Taproom since they opened. I originally came to bring my son for the axe throwing but soon discovered the excellent German beer choices and some outstanding food, as well. The homemade German cuisine is made fresh and to and is authentic and delicious, I am a fan!!! I'm very impressed with the owner, Karin, who is originally from Kassel, Germany and created a locally owned and operated business for food and fun that's truly unique to the area. I've seen her welcome customers with big smiles, and returning ones with with hugs, creating a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. She's out front and often in the kitchen and her staff are all friendly, positive and upbeat that are always eager to share their knowledge of beers and food, all from the German perspective. Where else can you get authentic schnitzel and wash it down with a real German beerin a big frosted mug? Beers like Dunkel or Heffeweizen, which is from the oldest brewery in the world, dating back to 725 A.D.? They also have a very nice selection of other imports, American beers and their house beer is Cream Ale by Genesee with other breweries like Fairhope and Goat Island as well. They also have 16 oz wines, hard seltzer's and serve cocktails as well, so all the libations are here. Big plus that they'll give you a sample of a beer beforehand. They're located on Hwy 59 in Foley just north of Gulf Shores and can be spotted by the big yellow sign with the axes on it. Did I mention that a dedicated and safe space for throwing axes here? LOL It doesn't look fancy from the outside but inside it's clean and comfy with a large bar, tables for dining, big screen TV's, pool tables, shuffle board, dart boards, a collection of board games, occasional live music and a more. Now onto the food. The Reuben is a solid German sandwich with deli style pastrami, Swiss cheese, their delish homemade sauerkraut and dressing on marble rye, it's very, very good and I am a big Reuben fan. There's other sandwiches like burgers, brats on a bun, or their most excellent patty melt, one of the best I've had anywhere. But don't forget the Schnitzels sandwiches with crispy pork and seved with fries. Speaking of fries, you can get them with ranch, or cheddar cheese, or a delish twist get them served with mushroom gravy. House specialties their Bier cheese dip & pretzel, and the big hearty Axe burger with black forest ham, egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion axe sauce. Then there's my absolute favorite the Jägerschnitzel which is crispy pork tenderloin with mushroom gravy, red cabbage and fried potatoes or fabulous spätzle, very tasty. Oh there's also occasional special dishes with curry or the German potato salad and more. The really good German food is a surprise to some that I've introduced to this place and it's the #1 reason I keep returning, well the beer is also a pretty close second :-) Bottom line: Family friendly, clean, comfy and reasonable prices with food, fun and a warm inviting staff. I recommend giving this excellent locally owned and operated business a try, Prost!

Great place, great people, good authentic German food and just a fun place to be. A nice hidden gem.

Kirin's (the owner) vision of a traditional German/American Tap House was a delight every night. While Axe Throwing was a delight and a unique spectacle unto itself, Karin's bar offers many types of games from Darts to Giant JENGA blocks to Pool to Corn Hole to Chess, and more Her Tap selections feature the best-of-the-best of traditional German Style Beers which arrive supper-fresh as if from the brewery itself! Her Bar is flawlessly maintained and serves an array of Strong mixed drinks too. Then there's the food; Her Ruben is among the very best I've had outside of Germany and certain NYC Deli's. Her Brats are custom crafted to her specifications as are all the sauces and Sauerkraut too. No detail is overlooked by Karin's deft sense of quality cuisine. Her fries are especially Fresh and arrive Hot every time. This is fun spot for group activities, families and just the nicest people in the region. Save some energy for the Axes!

Stumbled on this place and was pleasantly surprised when I ventured inside. Now I'm not an axe thrower but they have pool tables, shuffleboard and great selection of German beer along with some others. I had a German Weiss and actually met the owner who was tending bar too. Looks like they have decent German fare on the menu and those pretzels looked great. Will be back to eat, drink and play some shuffleboard soon.

Was at the airport in Gulf Shores waiting for the sun to set for a night flight so this was the perfect opportunity to finally try the Bier Shack. The Pub was clean and neatly arranged which is always a good sign. I got there right at opening and the owner/bartender was very nice and took care of getting my meal going quickly and we had some nice conversation. I ordered the Cordon Bleu Schnitzel with pommel frites and it was excellent. The bread, the pork, and the bacon/cheese was perfectly made at just the right temperature. The fries were right on being dipped in a mixture of mayo and ketchup. I felt like I was back in Germany! I look forward to returning.

I finally got an axe to stick!

My son is leaving to German so I thought I would get him ready. They have many German beers, he enjoyed a Hofbrau House and another. Our food was amazing the tomato curry wurst and my schnitzel sandwich. Both items were like being in German already. We had a lesson on axe throwing, and had a great time. It's very save and fun to do. Music wasn't playing that night. The owner was by herself, running like a crazy person. A great place to try when you don't want seafood.

Our server, Michael was absolutely wonderful. (Plus he has amazing hair!) Anyway, we started with my Smoked Old Fashioned (It was ok, bartender went a little heavy on the bitters, and I should've asked for Bulleit Rye but that was my bad.) Anyway, Honey got a Black and Blue. Both came out super quick and we were instantly refreshed. We chose to sit in the patio bc the weather was nice and not too hot or cold. It was just right. We started with the ColCannon Boxty Appetizer. It is small balls of shredded potatoes that are fried, and come with a delish aioli dipping sauce. We chose to split the Shepherds pie for our main course. The meat gave me meat loaf vibes but with a ground beef texture and a unique aftertaste.. It was good, just the texture is unique! It came with a small portion of the Brown Bread with Garlic butter. It was good! We asked for more Garlic butter. It was delicious! We would've ordered a Creme Brûlée but we were both stuffed. It was overall a great place and we will visit it again. A must visit if you are in Orange Beach!

Coming for dinner on a Friday night, we were definitely concerned about getting a spot to eat. Parking is definitely limited, but we were pleased to find there was no way for a table outside. The weather was lovely and the music piped outside (often featuring Irish artists such as one of my favorites, Hozier!) made the whole atmosphere perfect. The inside is cute (albeit dim) and fulfills the pub fantasy. The ladies' restroom was clean. Our waitress was cheerful and fun. It took a little while for her to come get our drink order but after that she was johnny on the spot. The other waitstaff was friendly and professional too. My parents split the fish and chips, I got the chicken pot pie, and we split a side of colcannon. The sweet tea I had to drink was a little on the unsweet side for me, but I often find that's the case at restaurants on the gulf...further evidence that Florida/the gulf area is fundamentally different from the rest of the Deep South. Lol. My parents definitely enjoyed the fish and chips overall. I think my dad was hoping for a little more salt/seasoning in the fish breading but my mom was VERY pleased with hers. I'd never had colcannon before and thought what we got was just alright, figuring it wasn't really for me. My mom, who's tried it a few times different places, said she'd had a lot better. It had a pretty strong beer taste from the gravy on top. I'd be curious to try it again somewhere else and see how it compares. The shining star of the night was definitely my chicken pot pie. The crust was delightfully brown, the chicken was succulent and plentiful, and the sauce it swam in with the tender veggies was super flavorful and aromatic. It was perfect for a very slightly chilly evening. The brown bread served with it was absolutely delightful too, warm and rich and topped with delicious herb butter. I could easily eat a whole loaf. This was a great meal! Thanks for a unique and tasty dinner in Gulf Shores! I highly recommend the chicken pot pie to anyone considering it. :)
