Honestly, not the most pleasant experience. I purposely went to the shop to purchase pedals and to get my cleats properly mounted. I wasn't thrilled about paying roughly a 40% markup for purchasing at a brick and mortar store compared to buying online, but I understand this is New York and everything is overpriced. After a ride I went to adjust the cleat positioning only to realize that they did not install a washer on one of my cleats. I'm glad I noticed this and that I did not have an issue 30 miles from my house, but seriously how could someone miss that there are 3 washers in the box and that all three need to be mounted. I went to the store with my receipt and without the shoe, and explained that I was missing a washer and felt belittled when explaining what I needed. The exact quote from the person that helped me was "I'm going to take your word on this, I don't believe one of my guys would make this mistake." I'm sooo sorry for the inconvenience that I paid your ridiculous in store price only to come back and need a part which I should have originally been provided with. Pretty sure a steel washer would cost the shop about .10 cents to replace, but he made me feel like I was asking for a kidney. Thanks, but no thanks. read more

After a purchase today, (11:19/21) I received a text message asking me to rate my purchase. I said a 2, and went on to explain. After spending, literally, thousands of dollars there over the last few years, i asked about a discussion that previously I had gotten. Shane, rather testily, told me discounts go on into perpetuity. Today's purchase was a pair of $60.00 Castelli gloves, and two packages of nuun sports tablets. I received a response asking how they could do better. I said read the text. I've not heard back. I don't need to go out of my way to go shopping there. There is note I can't get online, probably cheaper, or can't find in other bike shopping across Manhattan. Sorry guys, you lost me, and no, I wouldn't recommend shopping there. read more

Taking a stairs down from the sidewalk is a walk to hell to this sub sidewalk bike shop. Overpriced on every bike item and not very friendly customer service. Came in for a basic bike part and it seemed like i the customer was bothering the store and they wouldn't even bat a eye contact with me. After inquiring about the bike part i wanted to purchase the guy behind the register pawns me off to someone else who just asked the same guy to grab it off the wall. A sure sign that customer service is dead within these catacombs. Even the mechanics are unfriendly. Not even a excuse me while trying to pass but just a slight nudge. Not to mention items here are way overpriced and marked up at least 15%. Though i needed the item quickly and as a emergency i had to relinquish to purchase it here since it was the only shop in town that had it. Would i steer friends here, no, would i come back, no. Emergency parts next time? I'm just going to have to bite down and wait patiently at another establishment. read more

I understand things are hectic due to Covid-19 but my experience here is perhaps the worst experience I've had with a lbs; I did my undergrad at UC-Davis once known as the "bicycle capital of America". I'm currently a 3rd year medical student on a relatively lax 4-week rotation so I figured I'd try to get back into cycling before all my free time got swallowed up again. I dropped my bike off 4 weeks ago and quoted ~$400 for service etc and warned I may need more parts. I was ok with this and was told it would take about 4-5 days. In that time they reached out to me 0 times; - I literally had to keep coming in or calling for updates to move things along. - Parts were ordered without notifying me. - On week three I called in and was told despite having all the parts "I was low priority". I'm not sure how priority is determined but I asked what my total charges were and at this point it was $600 -700 for labor and parts (bottom bracket and cables). - Week 4 I called in again over the weekend and was told it would be ready today. I go in only to find that my bike was in the exact condition it was three weeks ago (literally no work done despite being told otherwise on the phone) and that they forgot to change the status from hold. Told to come back in on Friday (almost a month now), which so happens to be the end of my rotation. - The icing on the cake: while waiting in line (to basically find out nothing had been done), some guy--I assume a regular--rolls up in his colnago, cuts the line and hands in his bike for a repair and is told to come back in a couple hours. - The staff I interacted with were generally polite but I can't honestly see myself ever coming here again or referring this place to my classmates or anyone. read more

The technicians are true pros who care and maintain your bike as if it was their own ride or you are part of the family. I've brought in many riding friends into the fold here in the area after convincing them that this shop is PRO while the rest are hack- shops or just marketing grabs and waste of time and money in the long term. As a cyclist I hate to give bad reviews to fellow cycling shops. But this place is absolute garbage. Simple mechanical jobs that I've dropped off here have come back irreparably screwed up. With no attention to detail I have been given back a bike that doesn't shift into every rear cog, a bike that simply won't change from chainrings easily and I've also waited weeks upon weeks for simple bike repairs. Further, their "bike fit" system, for which they charge as much as excellent shops like Acme and Fit First, uses more of a "guess" system than anything technologically advanced or cutting edge. Poorly placed saddle and cleat position results in nothing but serious injury. The fitting is about as irresponsible as the mechanic work. read more

At first it was the worst bicycle shop experience of my life. And I'm 67. They lie, the don't care, they put tires on half way and don't complete the work order. So the next day I got a flat on the very same tire they fixed, and I had no choice but to go back. But Sam, the manager intervened and was generally sorry for how I had been treated and not only reimbursed me the 100$ from day before but also gave me 20$ in cash. I thought that was more than fair. I caught a flat on my bicycle and I'm on 72nd & 2nd ave and it's raining outside. I googled the nearest bike repair shop and came across BICYCLE NYC. They were the closest one at my current location and I've never been there before. I asked them to just fixed my back flat tire only. One of the employees noticed my seat was a little disoriented and offered to fix it. I told him if it's an extra charge, just leave it alone. 20 minutes later, my tire is fixed and so is my seat. And he only charged me for the tire only. He didn't have to do that but I was so very grateful and so surprised he did it anyway and hooked me up. I very recommend this place if ever nearby. Employees are nice, mechanics are fast, and the store is neat and clean. Thank you BICYCLE NYC for your kind gesture and your service. With all going on, bike shops are super busy, and had to book an appt for a tune up. I brought my bike in on the appointed day and the man who was out checking bikes (sadly I did not catch his name) filled up the tires, looked mine over, asked me a few questions, and rode around on it for a bit. He said there was nothing wrong with it. It was very kind and saved me some dosh. Even though initially I had a bad experience, I've only had more positive ones since. I forgot to pick up my $500 electric scooter and they sold it without any notice, no text, no email, no phone call. It was prepaid to change a tire. The scooter is 2 months old. They said they contacted me but I got nothing and they have no paper trail of any communication they say they attempted. I could sue but who has time? Just don't go. Unethical business practices. Too bad because a lot of those workers are really good. Don't support unethical owners. We need another bike store. This is what happens when it's a monopoly. read more

Run, don't walk from this store. I went in to buy a mountain bike or a hybrid. Bought one for $925 after only taking a short test ride. After riding the bike a bit longer on the way home, I realized there was something wrong with it. I brought it back. They were testy about it, but I agreed to see what else they had. The only other bike I liked was $1,250, more than I wanted to spend, but I decided to go for it. I asked if they could work something out on the price, but was told nope. Then I was told they wanted $80 to "re-stock" the bike I had returned. So they have an unhappy customer who returns a bike, then, to resolve the problem he agrees to buy an even more expensive bike, but they won't refund $80 for what turned out to be a failed test ride. Went in looking for shoes, came out $400 lighter, but it's because Lucas took at least 45 minutes with me, and only me, to talk about every detail of properly fitting shoes for cycling, and found me the perfect pair. He took the time to look at my feet, feet that are *very* unusual due to corrected club foot on both sides. His knowledge wasn't simply a knowledge of brands and features, it was thorough knowledge of the anatomical specifics of fitting bike shoes. And he was friendly to boot. Given that there is also a second shoe expert on staff, I see no reason to go anywhere else for cycling shoes. The rest of the shop was well staffed, and very well stocked with high quality gear and (what I can only assume) is a quality repair area. I think I've found my shop. Phil read more

They say if you don't have something nice to say don't say it all. Well, I have something nice to say! In recent dealings Bicycles NYC I found the staff and the operation to be top notch. In working through an issue with a recently purchased electric bike, I went to Bicycles NYC for help and was met with kind and knowledgeable staff with a love for things bicycle. I am a mechanic/technician by trade, and after rob took a couple of minutes on a busy day to talk to me, I knew I was talking to a guy who "knows his ****". When my situation worsened through no fault of the shop, I dealt with Sam the store manager. Sam knew exactly what to do to get me sorted out, and did so in a surprisingly short amount of time. All too often bike shop folks can make it clear that they would rather be riding, and I'm sure that's true for the guys at Bicycles NYC. However they never made me feel that way. read more

Very disappointed, brought in a zero 9 scooter with a rear flat. I also brought in a inner tube for it. Once arrived the guy said he couldn't use this tube because of the valve. So we agreed that we would switch the front tube to the rear and use the tube I brought for the front (since the front had no motor and it would work). Brought in the scooter at 3pm they said it would be done by end of day. 6pm rolled around no phone call or anything I called the next day around noon and they told me to come and pick it up for it's ready. Next day when I went to pick it up guy said had a tube from his own scooter that He used and I would be all set. Charged me $100 for they consider removal of both tires as if they fixed two flats. Next day when I went to use the scooter front lost all air pressure. Went back there and they told me there is nothing they can do for they don't have tube. A week later when I took the front tire off I realized they used the wrong tube 10x2.125 when my scooter needs 8 x 2.125 see photo below which cases it the front to lose pressure. If you can't fix something just tell me you can't do it, don't waste my time and money . read more

I was having trouble with "Hot Feet" and found Bicycles NYC through a Google search. My podiatrist diagnosed me with a neuroma. When I called and told Sam what my issue was, the first thing he said after asking me questions about exactly what I was feeling was, "I can help you with that." After he thoroughly checked my feet, my cleats, and my shoes, he noticed that my shoes were broken at the heel. Sam suggested a pair of Lake shoes and explained to me why he chose them. He then had Jason make me a pair of orthotics for the shoes. I went on a 50 mile ride the next day and felt a 85% improvement. I believe the other 15% is due to me still having some swelling within my feet. The customer service was superb and I am a very satisfied customer. read more

I called this particular bike store on Monday 8.17.2020. I had asked would it be possible to have a box from one of your bicycles - he told me to call later in the week because he was planning to put put some new bicycles on the showroom and that it wouldn't be a problem. I quickly asked: are you sure because I am coming from midtown west ( over 40! ) and he said sure jus call me Wednesday. Ok I said. I called Wednesday as he asked me to and I was told to come Friday morning 8.21.20. to pick up the box he told me he was saving for me. I arrived on Friday as instructed; door was locked and I waited for someone to come to the door; I introduced myself and mentioned the guy's name who was saving me a box. He told me to hold on and so I waited at the door as he proceeded to return back inside the store. He came back to the door and told me you're welcome to pick anything from their pointing his finger to the garbage! At first I thought he was joking but suddenly realized that he wasn't. I looked at the garage and Immediately saw nothing of value in terms of a box; it literally was garbage! I immediately asked for the guy I spoke to on the telephone and he said that I couldn't see him because he was eating - I strongly recommend to anyone thinking about buying anything at this bicycle shop to realize something extremely important and valuable and that is : There's no truth! There's no integrity! I have been consistently happy with this shop. I live on 88th, less than 100 feet from a bike shop, but i don't go there. I either go to Danny's (excellent mechanic, but stock is more for tourist/novice riders) or Bicycles NYC. Bicycles NYC has a great staff, including CRCA racers, who know their stuff and will discuss it with you. Their mechanics are good (contrast with Metro, who damaged my bike) and their kit/bikes/upgrade parts are good for the more experienced rider. I recently had a shoe fitting with Abraham - suffice to say that this was the first time in a long time that i've been motivated to actually buy something from a shop instead of just heading over to Amazon. If you're a cyclist, you know that that means something. read more

I bought an electric bike off of Amazon that I had to partially assemble. I had low tire pressure and my breaks were super squeaky. I tried 3 bike shops before here and none would help me.
