Can I just say wowwwww. The tacos were AMAZING. Period. I would for sure come back again! I got the shrimp tacos and I tried the carnita (pork, although I did not take a picture), and the flavors were both on point! The shrimp was cooked to the point where it was firm yet still have its freshness - great. No salt needed, perfectly not added. The spicy mayo sauce, it appeared, completed the flavor. The pork was well seasoned, although I can't quite describe its savory taste. The other condiments that came with it such as the lime, tomatillo, onions and cilantro, pickled radish, and hot sauce were added, and my goodness was the taco delicious. Speaking from my tacos eating experience of loving Dos Toros from NYC, Bickering Twins is comparable. I got the combo, so for my side, I got plantains, which were phenomenal. They were soft on the inside, and slightly crunchy on the outside. However, I have very limited experience with cooked plantains, like school lunch plantain experience (which I didn't like), so take that into regard when I say phenomenal. Surprisingly also, the combo was filling for me which I really appreciated. Since they are only offering takeouts/delivery now, the tortilla of the taco did end up getting a bit softer than what I would have liked; however, that's just the nature of takeout I guess. I also got myself a margharita for takeout which was really interesting because my drink was in its own cup and on the side a bag of ice and instructions on how to have the drink was included - the thoughtfulness was appreciated, and the drink was good! I don't like to have to post a negative review, but this experience was very disappointing. We arrived here at around dinnertime with a group, and we weren't able to leave until almost 2 hours later. The food and drinks took forever to come out - so long that we had to ask multiple times if there was any update. The second time we asked, we were told they had given the kitchen instructions to "fast-track" our order, and that they would be starting on it next. This was 40 minutes AFTER we had ordered! I don't know if the issue was an overwhelmed kitchen, poor communication, bad order sequencing, or what, but it was truly an unacceptably long delay. The table next to ours seemed to have the same issue, as I heard them also ask for an update on their food. In the end, no apology was offered, and an automatic 18% gratuity was added to our bill. On top of the long delay, the food was relatively mediocre. I would not recommend this experience. read more

I loveee this place! Was here a few weeks ago and food is as delicious as I remembered. Prices have really gone up in the last few years, which is so unfortunate. I got the taco dinner plate with 3 tacos and 2 sides for $18 - very very filling. The shrimp taco is by far my favorite - delicious, grilled, big shrimp with a slaw and aioli. Al pastor also delicious with shaved pork and pineapple. Shaved steak taco would be my third favorite - herbal, garlicky sliced steak. First let me say, I'm a Mexican food junkie. Second, that I wanted to love everything about this place. The spot is off the main Ithaca commons strip which was cool and a nice little walk. You go downstairs into a basement and it had a speakeasy vibe which I loved. Staff was friendly and chatty, owners were on site. The owner's story on the menu was cool to read and gave the impression that the food would be amazing. But I was disappointed. Salsa was flavorless, tacos left a lot to be desired (we had steak shrimp and mahi) and even the rice was not good. The birrea quesadilla was alright but the "broth" was more of a gravy and I wasn't used to that. It might be the authentic way but just seemed too thick. The sides that came with it didn't make sense to use on the dish either. I understand their goal is to serve fresh authentic food but comparatively to any "ethnic" owned places I've visited, their food fell short in flavor. Reading the prior reviews, I feel compelled to say there was no additional gratuity added to our Bill and the tip process was as to be expected. Bickering Twins serves yummy tacos in the Ithaca area, much better than Luna's in my opinion. I really enjoyed all four of the taco varieties! One of my favorites was the Garlic Shrimp and the Steak tacos because the flavors worked so well together. If you add the salsa rojo on top it tastes seriously so amazing. The fried plantains are also a MUST for a side. Overall I would come here again, but like most places in Ithaca, the food was slightly overpriced. It was okay. It was my first time there, we happened to be there during their happy hour. We ordered the chips and salsa. It was pretty standard. The chips were warm. The salsa was mediocre. It needed something... maybe some cilantro or lime? I got the chicken tinga tacos. The filling was fine, the corn tortilla could have been warmer. They had a condiment bar, however, I found it to be pretty lackluster. I tried everything that was offered but nothing had much flavor. Quite disappointing to say the least. The green sauce, the red sauce, no kick, kind of bland. The pickled onions and jalapeños were blah. I also ordered a side of rice and beans and it was the smallest portion imaginable. I should have taken a photo but it was pretty dark where we were seated. That was where they lost me. I have to say, I'm almost embarrassed for this establishment that they could offer such small morsels of rice and beans. Unfortunately the service was sub par as well. He forgot our drinks, forgot about the rice and beans. I wish I didn't remind him about the rice and beans since it turned out to be freakishly tiny! My son enjoyed the shrimp tacos and my husband got a vegetarian variety of tacos but can't remember which one. He said it was okay. Nothing special. I would give it another chance but I would NEVeR order the rice and beans. But I would try their other tacos during happy hour. I'm giving this place 5 stars because the food items that were good were really good. Every day they have deals check their website for the deal of the day. For example Wednesday they had 15% off platters and 50% off chips and guac. So I really really liked the shrimp empanadas, the sauce in which the shrimp was emersed in was so good. I liked the shrimp tacos and Mayo mahi. The steak taco was too plain and dry for me. We liked the fried plaintains and birria soup. We got the Dulce de leche pudding, it was ok but too thick for me. It's a very pleasant place to eat, with a bustling downtown energy and shaded by the abundant trees. I highly recommend the shrimp tacos, but literally any of the tacos are a good decision. The "fried plantains" (think sweet fried plantains/maduros, not tostones) were excellent and very appreciated, especially because plantain dishes are hard to find in the brick & mortar restaurant scene in Ithaca. As a twin myself, and a lover of tacos, I really wanted to like this place. Honestly, the food is perfectly acceptable, if under seasoned (especially the beans). What isn't acceptable is having to wait over an hour for two tacos and beans. Honestly, I understand that it was a busy day and they seemed a little short staffed, but at the very least someone should check on the customers and update us as to when we can expect the food! Two tables behind me ended up leaving without having had anything because of this, and seemed extremely annoyed. This place is my FAVORITE restaurant in Ithaca. I literally dream about their tacos. I always get the three taco platter and switch it up with the proteins each time, but usually get the shrimp, chicken and carne asada. God damn, the corn tortillas are so fresh and the tacos overall are always exploding with flavor. I LOVE the pickled onions and jalapenos. I always think there has to be a "special" reason for a business to deserve a 5 star rating rather than a "really good meal" 4 star rating. For BT, 2 things stood out: 1) The flourless chocolate cake was THE BOMB. I m pretty snooty when it comes to my chocolate and what they used in the cake I m sure I could have eaten just by itself. No wonder the end result was phenomenal. 2) The hostess and co-owner (one of the two bickering twins :-)) went out of their way to find out what chocolate brand is used in their cake and gave me a call later to let me know. I loveeeee this place and it's because of the tacos. Never have a had a bad taco here. Worth the money for sure. I think I've had all of them at this point. I always go back for the shrimp but I like to mix it up too. I've been I don't even know how many times and it's very consistent. I'm not a tequila person but obviously if you're going to a Mexican place that is a staple and so I go for it anyway and I always like them. I miss the jalapeño margarita being on the menu all the time and not just a feature. I've dined when the downstairs was open, during the summer days outside, and have gotten take out during COVID. The food was good not great but the 18% service fee was ridiculous. I was told by the waitress this was to give the kitchen staff a fair wage but I was to also tip on top of this service fee for the waitress and bartender. Last time I checked the paying of your staff is part of doing business and should be factored into your business model. With your prices being on the high end for tacos you should be able to pay your staff a fair wage. At this rate you are expecting me to add 18% service fee and normally I tip 20% for wait staff on top of my bill, a total of 38% added to a bill for the average person is crazy. I have seen 3-5% fees in DC area but you have taken the cake with 18%. What restaurants like yours don't realize is that customers like myself are noticing and will eventually get tired of these inflated bills and stop coming. read more

Went to this place trying to find something tasty for dinner. The entrance of the restaurant is underground which is kind of intimidating. However, once you get in you are welcome with vivid colors from a mexican inspired decoration. We were served promptly, there was not a lot of people on a Friday evening. We ordered chips and salsa, empanadas, a few tacos and churros. As first time experience, food was decent but bland and slightly overpriced (you can definitely get better and cheaper mexican food in the area). I like their salsa/pickle veggies to complement their tacos but again there was nothing special about it. For drinks, I ordered the oxacan daiquiri and it wasn't well balanced (it tasted like pure rum). Lastly, our server was very attentive but to the point that we felt she was kicking us out. If it were possible to give more than 5 stars I would! From the first time that I came into this BEAUTIFUL establishment I was welcomed in with open arms and smiling faces! It would be impossible to describe all of the amazing qualities that this restaurant has in one single review but I'll give it my best shot! Starting with the twins themselves, Corey and Kevin are truly the life blood of this place!! Almost every time I'm in there I see one of them and they are Always greeting me with so much kindness. (not to mention they are both very easy to look at ) The employees are always such a joy! They are always so accommodating to me and my food allergies and every time my double margarita is empty they are right there to top me off again. It truly does feel like a second home to me, a place I can go to after a long day and just unwind with a DELICIOUS shrimp empanada. (I could go on for hours about those things!!!!) the only criticism i have is that I can't be there 24/7.
