Want kitchen items? They seem to be scattered everywhere. A little over here, a little over there. It's not an efficient place to shop. And relative to other Home Goods stores, it felt very lacking in substance. Nothing very exciting. Imagine the remnants of every other store combined in one place. All the stuff nobody wanted, 1 of each thing. Employees aren't particularly helpful or friendly. We tried asking for help in something we were looking for and the woman we encountered clearly had no interest in being bothered. It was very much a "if you can't find it on the shelf we don't have it" attitude. Other floor staff were similar in personality. Like you're in their way being in the store. The person at checkout was so much better - she was super nice. I think people who are impressed by this store have never been to a GOOD Home Goods store. Most are so much better than this one.

I finally popped an email to the company who makes it, and they suggested World Market. So off I go... Yes... World Market had the item I was looking for. And a whole lot more. All sorts of delicious food items imported from all over the world (sausages, candies, pastas, sauces, soups, etc). A huge selection of hard to find specialty items. I also wandered through the store to look at other stuff, and they have a nice selection of things. Baskets, blankets and throws, furniture, paintings, all sorts of stuff people need. Before Walterville Market it was Schwartz Brothers, Rays Food Place and an IGA, but always a grocery store. This past August it was purchased and opened as a Dollar General. We stopped in on Christmas Eve and the store is a huge improvement from the most recent market. They appear to have done a nice job renovating the building. Dollar General offers food, snacks, health and beauty items, cleaning supplies, housewares, seasonal items and paper products. This location will be great for people headed up river who need to stop for basic items for their day or weekend trip. It's also really convenient for locals who live East of the Thurston area of Springfield. The prices seemed reasonable and the store was clean and well organized. It also felt like there were a lot more amenities inside verses the past grocery stores.

Sheryl helped me start the return and Sandy helped finish it. Appreciated that they were women of my generation who knew the clothing, understood the importance of fit, and could make suggestions about styles based on what was in the store. They also gave the all important head's up that this week had started a 50% discount off sale prices. Which of course changes everything. Suddenly a quick trip turned into a bit of a browse. And as with all good treasure hunts: found a beautiful one of a kind feeling piece, as well as an important basic to expand the winter wardrobe... except, because they were also carrying "petites" everything also fit perfectly -- like actually fit my natural frame, no alterations needed. The sleeves were the right length on the jacket. The waist hit the right place. It was an instant "yes!" And the denim skirt was a little stretchy with a little Give and it looked tailored and smart enough to wear for casual work. All on 50% sale. Helpfully there was lots of free lot parking, and the kind of vibe outside, in the shopping center courtyard -- which included tables and chairs -- for comfortable waiting. The holiday decorations were up and it was a really festive vibe. A great place for women of a certain age to find items that actually fit non-model bodies comfortably, styles that are timeless, the price was unbeatable, and the service was attentive and thoughtful.

I received a check from them for $25 so I went in to the store yesterday. The sales racks were completely empty. The clerk said they send the summer things back. I thought I would use it for socks after that but there was a sign that was not allowed! I walked out, crumpled my check & tossed it in the trash! I guess J Jill is now my favorite store. Their catalog had lots of good items!
