Wow!!! Hands down the best vegan food I've had since I've been in Chicago! After leaving the Obama Center we were hungry. It's a place in Hyde Park I'd been looking to try another spot but of course it was closed. Back to searching and we found this spot and what a gem! Sammy, greeted us and she was absolutely lovely! It's a local spot in Hyde Park and the decor is amazing! I had a special, jerk mushroom taco plate with beans, rice, plantains and pico de gallo. Hubby had the Mediterranean plate with oyster mushrooms. Amazing! We were given complimentary lemonade in celebration of Juneteenth, thank you so much! They have vegan cookies and we enjoyed a lemon blueberry cookie and it was delicious! We truly enjoyed our meal and the chance to trying out a new spot! Support local businesses! read more

The owner is delightful! My son picked the (huge) meatball parm sandwich and only managed to eat half. He said there is not room for improvement - it is perfect. I had the mushroom sandwich. The burgers are a blast and have an incredible amount of flavor. Really impressive as no meat cuisine. The Jack fruit nuggets had really good sauce and coating, but hard to say that Jack fruit has the right substance. But the cashews as a snack here are very much worth it. I will say that service times could be improved but it doesn't seem like there was much staff available when I visited. The yelp coupon when you check-in is not honored by this restaurant unfortunately, still worth the price of how flavorful the food is. read more

B'Gab's Goodies is a completely vegetarian and raw foods cafe. It also has a grocery section where you can find some great items. There's produce. Menu has lots of vegan friendly choices inviting juices and burgers. The prices aren't that bad compared to some other vegan local restaurants. Came in and got some things to go. It looks more like a carryout operation. They also have a grocery section. Among the grocery area are many vegan substituted for things like cheese. They also have some fresh locally grown produce. It may be priced higher than at a regular grocery store, but nothing out of the ordinary for around here. The cafe section is the reason why I came though. I got a bottle of the Ginger Lemonade. It's $4 for a good amount in it, so not that bad of a price. This is made with cane turninado sugar, ginger, and lemon juice, and is just one of the many juices they have in the cooler in the grocery section. I also got a Basic Burger. It's $12 and is a pretty big one. This is a choice of a Beyond or Impossible Burger, with ketchup, lettuce, mustard, onions, pickles, and tomatoes. It tastes a lot like a regular burger. That's what I've also been told after I shared a bit of it left over. Good local business. It can be hard getting here at a good time because it has some limited hours. It has been years since I walked 57th Street in Hyde Park. On a recent visit to my old neighborhood, I passed B'Gabs and stopped in briefly. I bought a bottle of ginger pineapple drink and their version of fried clams, which were fried mushroom strips. I'm not a fan of vegan cooking unless I cook it at home so that I can add the herbs and spices to my liking. I liked the fried mushroom strips, though. Like many restaurants, you scan a QR code to get to the menu. Contactles in post pandemic times is recommended. Because food is cooked to order, you don't get anything from the kitchen in microwave minutes. I can't speak for any other menu items, but what I had was good enough. read more

I really enjoy when they have new food items and I tried the birria tacos and Orange mushroom chicken made with oyster mushrooms. Wow, everything was amazing! They don't ever disappoint. Unfortunately I did not experience the best of what I'm sure she can and has previously done. Tried twice, forgave a completely forgotten order, said nothing about the coldness and the attitude (which I'm not even sure she recognizes as a problem at this point...) I wanted very badly to love her food and had hoped to become a regular customer but that won't happen. The raw menu, for me, was inedible, I had to add to the "famous" kale salad with items out of my own fridge and spice cabinet, and the pizza was also virtually inedible (despite following her rehearing instructions exactly). I'm hoping maybe I just experienced her during a hectic & eventful time but as a brand spanking new customer neither she nor her food made a good impression. I was treated poorly and certainly did not receive good value for the money I spent or the goodwill and patience that I gave. Lesson learned. read more

That was by far the most amazing vegan dish I've ever eaten in my entire life! The flavors were extremely bold & to top it off the philly even had a very intriguing spicy component to it which I believe is from the gardiniera. The vegan cheese was almost reminiscent of cheez whiz because it had a sauce like consistency. I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for the hours & the location being so far away I'd be here at least 2 or 3 times a week. They had menu "specials" & even treats near the cash register. I will admit that there's a significant wait for your food but it's made to order & comes out piping hot. This may come as a shock, especially to my devout meat eaters, but I'd be comfortable stating this as the best cheesesteak in Chicago. read more

Parking is tighter than Stevie Wonder's braids so bring someone with you so you can run in. I got lucky and found a spot as soon as I pulled up. (Praise him) I stepped in and immediately noticed the beautiful art work. I believe it was local artist art work for sale. I saw a picture of my girl Billie Holiday and knew I was in the right place. The restaurant has a warm homey lofty feel. I noticed they also had jewelry for sale. Not regular jewelry but positive energy jewelry made with crystals!! Nice touch!! I spotted the Peach Cobbler right away!! It just came out the oven! It was like three people ahead of me and of course they were ordering it too. I stepped up a nice very nice lady named Monica took my order! I ordered the Vegan Beef dipped with hot peppers it came with a choice between potato wedges and something else (sorry I can't Remember‍). I chose the wedges, a peach cobbler, a homemade lemonade, and a chocolate chip cookie. I waited like 30 mins. No problem because my food was made to order. While I waited I met the owner, Gabby. She asked were we Vegans. I told her that we were transitioning. I explained to her why( Major and his Autism)and then Major started wildin out!! Gabby and I talked about Autism and the Autistic diet (which is gluten free vegan diet). She also gave me some quick tips on making homemade vegan ice cream and a detox drink to detoxify the heavy metals out of Major's system. She was really informative which you know I am here for it! Since Major was acting like Marlon Wayans aka Wild Child in that one Wayans brothers episode. I gave him and Nia a piece of the vegan chocolate chip cookie. They loved it!!!!!!!!!! I tried it, it was really good. It had a slightly grainy mouthfeel but was still off the chain. Best vegan cookie I have ever had! Honestly!!!!!! My order was ready. I intended to eat my food at home but it kept calling me. So I ate in the car baby!! That damn Vegan beef was offff the charts. No soy meat was used!!!! Portobello mushrooms and caramelized onion were the filling. The peppers were hot and the sandwich was nicely dipped!! An Outstanding damn sandwich!!!!!! The potato wedges were pretty decent. That peach cobbler was da bomb! You couldn't tell it was vegan by any means. It was EXCELLENT!!!! It was extra sweet just like cobbler should be. I should have bought two servings!! Silly me! The lemonade was sweet, tart, and refreshing. I am truly floored by how masterful done the food was! I stopped by here with a friend on our way to Harper court in Hyde park, and I cannot believe I did not know about this spot when I still lived in the area! Delicious vegan food from a welcoming black owned restaurant with reasonable prices is hard to find. We ordered the Philly cheesesteak with potatoes and a mango smoothie. They cook the food fresh to order. The Philly cheesesteak was so flavorful I seriously could not believe it wasn't meat. And the potatoes were seasoned and crisped to perfection. The employees were all extremely nice as well, and the prices are very reasonable! ($10-15 avg). I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Hyde park and plan to try the wide array of desserts they sell as well. Any time I'm in the Hyde Park area, I make a beeline for B'Gabs. I don't have to say what's already be said numerous times, the food is beyond excellent. On this particular visit I had the cheesesteak (made with beyond beef) with vegan cheese and peppers. OMG it was so delicious and filling. That sandwich made my day! I love their cold pressed juices and smoothies and the desserts are such a treat! There's always plenty of tasty treats to choose from which are made fresh everyday. The earthy settings and peaceful environment is always a welcoming feel that I enjoy. My only gripe is with myself. I wish I lived closer so I could eat there on a regular basis. read more

In the middle of detox, I needed some clean and raw food. I heard so much about this place but never had the opportunity. Usually, I dined at Soul Vegan East but I didn't needed feel like waiting for a long time. I'm glad that I visited the place. My meal, I had the burrito with peppermint tea. Wow!! It tasted so delicious!! I've found the spot. Great place, great environment , great service and wonderful people. They are very personable. The staff open and easy to talk to. I'm a novice to the vegan lifestyle. So therefore, I'm constantly looking for knowledge. I was pleased and impressed with the owner taking the time to enlighten me. B'Gabs has everything from herbal tea, in-scents, plant based proteins, raw deserts, specialties, smoothies, juices and many more. We were so looking forward to some great vegan food here based on the reviews and local recommendations. We ordered the Jerk Beyond Burger, Cheese fries, Spicy Nashville Chicken sandwich and the jackfruit nuggets. First off the skeleton crew was friendly considering the limited amount of people they have direct customer service with. This review is based solely on the quality, presentation, taste and overall experience of the food. The Jerk Burger is a flavor combination that is has an too vinegar in its taste while it is trying to mask it with the curry coconut flavor which actually made it worse to the taste than try to soften its sourness. The Nashville Chicken Sandwich was enormous compared to the burger. Everything about it seemed right but the main ingredient ruined the experience. The chicken of course is breaded mushroom. I am very sorry to report that the clump of breaded mushroom was a grease ball of over cooked bread crumbs and destroyed mushrooms. The was sad to try to chew into a hardened ball of a fry. The fries were a of the frozen variety and the cheese was laced in lemon juice in a attempt to hide the frozen aftertaste of the fries. The jackfruit nuggets were the best of the bunch with what we hoped the breading of the mushroom would be. The sauce of fine but wished the jackfruit used was not all stems. Lastly, we really want this place to be great. We did not see the quality of food expected for the price, the reviews read or the expectation of fried food. We might have not ordered the food that should be ordered from this place. If so, please modify your menu. The food can be effective and wonderful by being simple, using fresh ingredients and letting the star of each dish shine. Taste your food before you serve it. GREAT PLACE! Everything is made from scratch and easily veganizable (if it isn't already). The menu is pretry solid with burgers, nachos, juices and desserts. The back even has herbs you can buy in bulk. I found this place through a vegan group and it's so good to have more options like this near uchicago. While it is a bit of a commute for me, I'm sure it is a hit with students and locals nearby. We got a smoothie- the berry one & raw chocolate cheesecake. I have only had vegan cheesecake once before (from Alice & Friends) and this one was SO good. I could have easily ate two slices but I didn't want to spoil my dinner. As for the restaurant itself, you have to walk to the back to order (but you get to pass the kitchen and see exactly how made from scratch everything is! (Read my other two reviews on Bonne and you will understand my rage) The service was great and they had a massive selection of juices and smoothies. Location is super convenient and there is always parking around. I got a great salad along with my smoothie, I'm a happy gal! Smoothies run $6-$10 and salads I think around $12. I made a trip here with a friend without checking their hours. It was a Saturday at about 3:20 and they informed us they close at 3pm but they let us choose something off the menu anyway. It was 98 degrees and humid and quite hot inside - so I know the cooks at the grill & everyone were ready to leave for the day. We were soo appreciative! I'd been waiting to try B'Gabs for weeks and felt bad but took them up on the offer. We shared one of the meals on their Specials Menu (Philly Cheesesteak) with potato wedges and the 32 oz. Bye Bye Inflammation smoothie. It was my first meal of the day and I was well filled & satisfied. The Philly was super flavorful and smoothie was strong on the ginger which was super refreshing and cleansing. They let us know that every Thursday, Friday and Saturday they reopen at 9pm - 2am (not totally sure of end time?) with music, food and BYOB! They ensured us it would be a good time. I stopped by months ago on a random search for something clean and healthy. I'm hooked! I try to visit at least 3 times a month. I have tried the stir fry veggies, Curry lentil soup, black bean and cheese tamales and quesadillas so far. Everything is vegan so there are no meats here. The ingredients are fresh and tasty.
