I really like the food at Ain't She Sweet Cafe, and I want to be clear that this review is specifically for the 43rd Street location. I've continued coming here for about two years because the food is good, but the customer service has gotten to the point where today was my last visit. The environment simply isn't welcoming. The two ladies I usually encounter at the front always seem irritated, and I honestly can't remember the last time I saw anyone smile. Today, while I was tapping/swiping my card, I politely mentioned that the card machine seemed to be glitching. I wasn't complaining at all. I was simply letting her know in case she wasn't aware. Her response was basically, "It's fine. It works. You're still able to use it," and her tone made it seem like she was irritated that I even mentioned it. It was such a small interaction, but it sums up the customer service I've experienced at this location. When I first started coming here, they at least spoke and seemed more welcoming, but over time it has turned into an unfriendly attitude almost every visit. The food is good, and that's what kept me coming back, but good food isn't enough when you consistently feel like your presence is an inconvenience. After two years of giving the 43rd Street location my business, I'm done.
The service was terrible the women at the front counter was extremely hostile and rude. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! The food was good but service always beats product for me and I will not be returning here based on the terrible service. All the women had attitudes overall and it just was a terrible experience overall.
sooo i ordered a fresh fruit smoothie today from here. first time here and unfortunately might be the last at the location on 43rd. street. the cashier "anaya" whom is too damn old to be rolling her eyes like a two year old, is going to run customers away with her bad attitude. who wants to be rushed when placing an order ?! other than that, smoothie was a 10/10!
Pros: customer service was cool, they patiently took my order although there were a lot of people in line They also have vegan friendly options (smoothies and panini's) Sandwhich came with pickle and chips Cons: the sandwich they gave me is not what I imagined when ordering. I got the garden veggie panini and the bread was soggy because of all the spicy mayo they added when I specifically asked for vegan jerk sauce. And I asked for it on the side! The sun dried tomatoes were more like regular tomatoes and I'm not sure if broccoli was supposed to be on the sandwich but it was. I still ate the sandwich because I was hungry but it was mid. The smoothie was really good though. If I go back, I'll be sure to be extremely clear when ordering (make the bread extra toasted, NO sauce on sandwhich)

Had my mindset on Chicago pizza before exiting the "pizza Mecca" as still prefer NY style and the fond memories of getting slices on a regular basis. Happy to be referred to this spot. The café proximity to a coffee shop, both black owned, made my decision, super easy. Ordered coffee, and then went next-door to get food. There were several options, including wraps, Panini's and soups. I selected the jerk chicken salad wrap on a spinach tortilla and a bowl of the tomato spinach bisque soup to share. My companion had the veggie Panini. Despite the busy atmosphere, service was Fishel and personable. Order was placed and received ticket to wait for my name to be called. There was a discrepancy with amount, charged, and the reason for the four star rating. I brought the matter to the attention of the cashier and resolved immediately with addition of pre packaged jerk salad for later enjoyment. I would suggest due diligence in making sure that your order is accurate, should be done in all instances. Food was received in a timely fashion and all condiments were available or already included. Enjoyed my soup immediately and took the wrap for my flight. The soup was amazing and perfect for the cooler temperatures in Chicago. My wrap had great flavor and the jerk spice provided additional heat! Will definitely return during trip to sample the other items, including a wide array of ice creams, and other dessert items.
Years later... the food is still consistently fresh, tastes the same, I enjoy that I can expect the same thing whenever they cross my mind to come in. Never had a problem with customer service at neither location.
My boyfriend took me to this hidden gem that I never knew existed until today and after tasting it and also seeing all these reviews that agree I will be giving it a go again. I specifically want to try the jerk chicken wrap everyone is craving about. So, we did come right in the middle of lunch around 12:30 and there was a small line but it got much longer as time passed up until we left. They definitely had a good rush and that's always a sign to me that this is people's go to spot for lunch. I could tell right away from the menu that anything i was ordering (after a nice workout) would be nice and healthy as well. My sandwich was loaded and I loved every bite. It comes with your choice of bbq or plain lays chips. We purchased the Joes teas and those were fresh and tasty as well. I would highly recommend this place for lunch! They had smoothies and other sweet treats too that I'll have to come back and try. There are small tables there if you want to sit down and have your meal as well. It gives cute cafe feel.

IMHO the Steve sandwich should be a panini because I thought the crossing was unnecessary. Where I think this place excels is in the sweets department. That sweet potato pie was scrumptious. My daughter was raving about the red velvet. Wraps & sandwiches of the this genre & nothing new to Chicago but I can't think of another option unless you go all the way to Hyde park. In closing I thought it was expensive for what it was & they need a better option for chips other than Lay's but I'll definitely be back.

I am very disappointed that the location on 43rd did not honor a $25 Gift Card today. It was odd! Then I was told to call the 99th Western location before going. I've called several times today and no one answered. I had not planned to spend cash, yet I had my mind set on the Caribbean Jerk Spinach Wrap. It's a WRAP for my loyal patronage at Ain't She Sweet Cafe! It surely was not Sweet for me today!
This little gem on the south side was so yummy. The food had just the b right amount of spice. I got the jerk chicken wrap and it was so flavorful and tasty. The service was fast and efficient. Was looking for a local cafe & 10/10!! Easy menu with quick service and the workers were very nice. I loved that the panini came with chips and a pickle so yummy & the smoothies were delicious with good thickness. I recommend the caramel chocolate chip cookies! read more

This was my first time trying this place out. I was very pleased with my food! They have a lot of options on the menu to give people a variety. Because of Covid, they are takeout only. You can walk in and order or call over the phone for pickup. The staff was quick and very nice. I waited around 5 minutes for my food to be done after I placed my order. I ordered the jerk salmon wrap. It was soooo good! I loved the spice level. It was had a kick, but it wasn't overwhelming. I could taste the flavor still. The salmon was moist and flaky. They give you options of tomato, flour, spinach, or wheat wrapping. I got the spinach and it was good! Overall, 10/10 experience. Definitely will be returning. Black owned! read more

Been frequenting this neighborhood spot for a couple of years and I'm never disappointed. My go to is the jerk chicken wrap on spinach with plain chips and a slice of the rum cake. I never have any leftovers. The jerk wrap is a bit spicy, so if that's not your thing, try something else orrrr get the sauce on the side. It's the perfect lunch. read more
My order was placed via grub hub .. which may warrant a different experience if placed in person... grub hub estimated the wait time to be about 45 min during the 1230-130 lunch hour. Upon arrival there was a wait for the in store orders and pick up orders so I suggest planning ahead. Their online menu corresponded with what was available in store i ordered the garden veggie panini. I was on the fence about ordering the tomatoes soup only to be surprised that my sandwich came with a small portion which was perfect. Chilllllee! I have drove past and heard about this place for years now. I would always forget to go in. As a SAHM (Stay at Home Mom) and a full time student I don't always feel like cooking lunch so Grubhub was my friend yesterday and Ain't She Sweet cafe was my BFF!!!!!!! My order came within the time frame on the tracker. The lady who brought my food to my house was prompt, pleasant and courteous. When she handed me my bag and my smoothie I had a feeling that it was going to be delish!! I ordered the Da Steve (which was turkey ham, turkey bacon, oven roasted turkey, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo and mustard on a buttery croissant for a $1.00 extra I added the soup of the day (you must call first to see what it is) I didn't because I wanted to be surprised. I was! Their tomato basil soup is sooo good!! I mean you could pour it on a leather shoe and have a great meal!! Loll!! It was that good! I also ordered a Tropical Breez. It had a scoop of raspberry sherbert, blended with peaches, pineapple, mangos and strawberries in it. Sooo goood. ****I only gave them four stars because I ordered a rum cake slice and was given a Lemon pound cake slice. It was nice and moist just not what I ordered. Andy is so great! Her pop up "Andy's Sunflower Cafe" is inside ain't she sweet in the Pullman/Beverly Hills/Oak Lawn area. It's women and black owned, Some of the best lattes/coffee hot and iced I've ever had. On a mission to try them all! They have punch cards now! read more

Just ordered a grilled chicken cheddar. I literally always get this sandwich and it's always great. But here's my issue... I sub out the croissant and get it on panini bread bc the croissant gets a little soggy. I'm charged an extra $2 for the bread, ok that's fine but when I ask for the croissant on the side it's a problem... isn't the cost of the croissant included in $11.44. Why can't I have my croissant. So I asked Emily she said "we don't do it like that"... the two lady's at the front were very rude. I got my sandwich got in the car and called the Beverly location. The manger said we would have just subbed out your bread no charge. I live 3 minutes from the 43rd location I'm literally never going back there I rather drive 30 minutes to western than deal with 43rd street customer service. For me it's not about the $2 it's the principal & quite frankly they should revamp and train their staff. read more
