Arriving at the BG store immediately sparked excitement, we had high hopes for elevated cuisine from such an established retailer. Maya and the staff were attentive and polite throughout. We started with a block of rosemary bread, which was unfortunately cold and lacked flavor. The accompanying butter definitely helps, though I skipped it to save the calories. Bread is usually my litmus test for what's to come, so this was an early sign to temper expectations. For mains, we tried the organic roasted chicken, lobster napoleon, halibut from the special menu, and the truffle pot pie. Everything was just okay -- except the pot pie, which was the clear standout of the meal. For dessert, we ordered the strawberry shortcake (made with Harry's Berries) and the pistachio cake. Beautifully decorated and wonderfully appointed! I can have High Tea service at the BG (Bergdorf Goodman) restaurant at least once a month. My daughter, Muff and I try to go to various places for high tea whenever we visit a different city. We have been to several places for high tea in NYC and the one at BG ranks up there with one of the top high teas that we have ever been too. As a matter of fact, the female half of a couple seated next to us that she would have ordered the tea had she known it was so wonderful. That tells you about quality of display of the service, not to mention the taste of the meal. Let me back up to the decor because it truly is spectacular. I had to take pictures just for home design inspiration. And our server was extremely intuitive, knowledgeable and helpful to us in making our selections. If every restaurant in America could clone her, they would provide one of the most wonderful restaurant experiences that anyone could imagine. She was that great! As for the menu, the BG restaurant wasn't too precious with their selections. We had scones, lemon curd, clotted cream, egg salad sandwiches, ham salad sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, truffle chicken salad sandwiches, Deviled Eggs with bacon, savory cream puff with Caviar, smoked salmon with caviar, assorted petit fours, assorted macaroni, other desserts and our choice of teas. Our choice of teas is important to us because we went to a tea where the restaurant chose the teas and order of the teas being served and we didn't care for that service. It's at the top of the store on the 7th floor with views overlooking the city and Central Park. First, don't think you're getting in without looking nice. Just don't try it. You may not get a table and the hostesses will check you at the door. Second, this place is definitely like a time capsule from the Gilded Age. Wait staff are in uniforms, scurrying around the restaurant to serve your every whim, and calling you sir and ma'am. If you fancy that sort of thing, this place is for you. The menu is very typical for a department store cafe. There are no award-winning chefs in the kitchen, this is just where you come to rest your tired feet and bags from all the expensive shopping you've done (or not) on all the floors below. We've been going to Bergdorf Goodman for years whenever we are in New York and always wanted to visit the cute cafe located on the 7th floor of the iconic building. The interior is beautifully decorated and the windows overlook Central Park. Tip: ask for a table with a good view in your reservation and they will try their best to accommodate. Service was typical for an upscale brunch. Polite and friendly. I did appreciate it that the waiter was honest in saying the deviled eggs are nothing special. Beware of reading reviews from Google as that dish was highly reviewed. It it's because Google doesn't cater to people with finer dining experience. Food, unfortunately, was mediocre. Duck dumplings were uninspired. Nothing special. Mushroom taste was equally unimpressive. Truffle Chicken salad sandwich was the best dish we had. The meal started with complimentary focaccia and butter, enjoyable, though not served warm. For appetizers, we shared the Mushroom Tart with raspberry jam ($28) and Poached Pear and Prosciutto Salad ($32). Both were fine, though a bit underwhelming and definitely overpriced for what they were. The tart was very mushroom-forward but not hot, and the salad was just okay. For mains, I had the Roasted Chicken Salad ($36) and my friend ordered the Herb-Crusted Chilean Sea Bass with Shrimp Risotto ($48). My chicken salad was fresh and generously portioned but lacking in flavor. The sea bass, was excellent, perfectly cooked and beautifully paired with the saffron beurre blanc, though the shrimp risotto was just average. I also enjoyed the tea service. We ended with desserts: the Pumpkin Cheesecake was outstanding, and the Pear Cranberry Cobbler was also very good. Overall, the experience was enjoyable, especially thanks to the excellent service and elegant atmosphere. That said, only parts of the meal truly stood out, and the prices are steep. This place is beautiful! I felt like a step back in time. The service was incredible. My husband took me for afternoon tea for a major milestone birthday. The server was nice enough to bring me a pillow to put behind me, the birdcage seats are pretty but without the pillow uncomfortable. Long story short something must have been on the pillow and got all over my pants. I actually walked around not noticing until I came to a mirror on a different floor I had a whole day ahead and a Broadway play. The afternoon tea was good the sandwiches could have been more. It was such a pleasant experience. I didn't expect it to be so busy, but I went during lunchtime, so that makes sense. Since it was my first visit, I wasn't really sure how to order. The server was incredibly friendly and welcoming. She introduced me to the daily specials, kindly explained everything. In the end, I decided to order the special she recommended. I visited the restaurant by myself and was told that it would be around a 30 minute wait, so I decided to do a little shoppiing as I waited. I bought a opair of shoes and just as I was finished, I was informed that my table was ready. Timing! I started off with a drink that I forget the name of, but it was a gin based drink with grapefruit liquor. The drink was sparking with these little stars that disentigrated within a few minutes. The tasting of the drink was really good and thats coming from someone who doesn't usually drink gin. For an appetizer I ordered the potstickers which were so darn tasty. They came presented in a circular box that presented perfection. The dipping sauce was a tangy soy sauce with a hint of spice. I was trying to savor them, but I ate them really quick. For my entree, I ordered the daily special which was halibut covered in a lemon burr blanc sitting on a bed of fresh vegetables. The taste of the fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. The sauce wasn't overwhelming which allowed you to actually taste the fish. The restaurant isn't your normal spot as I would say I wasn underdressed when I visited. The service was on point as the server knew exactly to ask if I needed anything and brought the items quickly. It is quite pricey, but its an experience I say is worth it. When I arrived at the correct Bergdorf Goodman building (it's the one across the Apple Store more east), a nice sales associate walked me to the elevator and told me the restaurant where tea was would be on the 7th floor. Everyone got the afternoon tea decided which is $75 a person. I don't think that we got was worth $75. Each person picks one tea and then you share the tray of pastries/sandwiches/scones with the person across from you. I had a nut allergy so I got my own mini tray. Someone else had a gluten allergy so she got to choose a salad from the menu. I did really enjoy the scone I had and the lemon meringue bites. You're paying for the experience. It is by no means the restaurant's fault but we were so disgusted that it killed our appetite. It worked, but we didn't get to sit together. Overall, it's a great location and very beautiful room. The actual food for the tea wasn't as amazing as I hoped. And had to ask for more clotted cream a bunch of times. We had a great time with Jason, our bartender. He was funny and gave great recommendations. My husband order two old fashions, and I had a holiday drink - both delicious. We ordered the duck dumplings (recommended by Jason) and the hummus plate. Finally, we ordered the sticky toffee cake (also, recommended by Jason). Everything was delicious. But the food we did get was great and the service was excellent! The waiter was super attentive and helpful. My lobster Mac was sooo good. My friend got the chicken pot pie - with the only complaint being that she thought is was a little flavorless (hence the .5 deduction) I had also booked the seating in advance - which I highly suggest as the space is small and can get filled up quick. Obviously not all the seats get to sit next to the windows overlooking the park and I had made a note in my res that it was a social occasion and if we could be seated near the windows and they accommodated! So I would def want to revisit since I had a great experience and want to try out that afternoon tea! read more
