Bela did a major electrical renovation of our 100-year-old house, including upgrading from 60 to 200 amps and rewiring about half of our house (removing knob and tube). This also included changing a bunch of light fixtures.
Bela was highly recommended by my husband's colleague, who had a similar job done at her house. Before starting his own business, Bela used to work at UC Berkeley then was head electrician at a local college.
I received 3 quotes for this job, two of which were from larger companies with 4-5 star ratings on Yelp. All quotes were in a similar ballpark, but I selected Bela, because:
1. His team also patched the walls and painted.
2. He did not propose to change the panel locations others did. This was better for our house aesthetically.
3. He explained everything very patiently.
4. He did not propose extraneous works as others did. This meant his quote was lowest. Berkeley requires outlets every 12 feet, but other electricians were interpreting this to mean every 6 feet, which is pretty ridiculous.
Importantly, permitting for our electrical work needed approval from both the city and PG&E. After everything was finished, PG&E asked for additional changes (beyond the original approved and permitted plans) and Bela did not change order us and ask us to pay extra.
After this, we also hired Bela for a kitchen renovation and he did a great job on this too. read more
