Sesco was the electric company my heating contractor of 40 (!) years used when I got heating pumps installed and needed new circuitry. They were awesome: punctual, friendly, considerate and more! the job was done quickly and expertly. It involved connecting a line in a metal conduit from one side of the house to the other, and not disturbing my deck. they figured out a way to do it! They speak English and Spanish, and are very personable and approachable. Loved them!! read more

This was my experience. I called them to check on living room, bathroom, and hallway light that were flickering. Two guys come to my house. I asked them if they had shoe coverings, they did not. I asked them to take off their shoes. We have hardwood floors and little kids (Asian family we don't wear shoes in the house). They were annoyed (grumbling), but obliged. They come in and stare at the problem areas, tell me that I need to just replace the bulbs. I was like are you sure, you don't need to do any tests or anything? They were like, "Yes we are sure." They leave, no explanation, I'm out $160. They took longer taking their shoes on and off than inspecting the house. read more

Sadly, I got burned by the good reviews and reputation, which are attributable to the previous owner and not the current. I paid Sesco over $10k for work I had to have redone by an honest company. The wires in the box sesco placed were crossed and caused a shock. I asked Virginia about this and the ring camera I paid them to wire which they just screwed in, but she was unresponsive. Backing up, I was told I would pay $120/hr each for Hugo and Oscar. They showed up at 8am and never called or knocked in my door. I live next door to the job site. They left and stuck me with a bill for $360 for that hour I had to track them down from somewhere else. I asked about the third person, Kevin's license status and Virginia bullied me into paying for him. She said "I should charge you for my time building the estimate as I put a lot of work into that!" Oscar also said I should only be paying for two guys. They left a filthy mess each day including feces and water on the floor. I asked Oscar to take their half-full water bottles one day and he said, "you can dump it." As someone who always opts to hire minority-owned businesses, I'm sad to steer you away from this one. read more

I talked with the receptionist and sent her a picture of the box of my previous ceiling fan. She said that it's not supposed to take a long time to install the new fan so I made an appointment. The technician and his assistant came to my home. The technician was unfriendly and didn't show me his business card. I asked him for the price and he said it will be 440 dollars (The new fan cost me 250 dollars!). He was upset that I didn't agree to continue. On the same day, I found a different electrician, very friendly that did the same job for 180 dollars. Very disappointed with Sesco Electrical! read more

Need to upgrade the old knob and tube wiring in your 100 year old house? Stop looking for electricians; Hugo has been doing this kind of work for decades. He did an incredible job rewiring a 2000+ square foot house. Very minimal damage to the plaster to rewire all the switches, outlets, and lights. Other electricians I got quotes from seemed intimidated by the scope of the work, asked me to do some pre-work (diagram the circuits from the breaker, etc.), and wouldn't commit to being able to to do the whole house. Hugo came in, looked around for 15 minutes, and said yeah, I can do it no problem. He finished on-time, and also added a new outlet for the garbage disposal and added a 220 outlet. read more

Sesco successfully tackled a challenging problem of running fiber optic wire through a conduit that stumped the Sonic installers. Virginia, the office manager, arranged for Hugo to drop by first to make sure he could do it, then they both came back with another person a few days later and together they accomplished the job in half an hour. Although he couldn't pull off the same magic for a neighbor's longer conduit run, I was quite satisfied. I called Sesco to schedule an electrical inspection of a home I'm purchasing in Berkeley. Regina answered the phone and had to keep repeating the same questions about the property because, she said, "I'm in the middle of doing something." Then why did you pick up the phone? Anyway, after finally getting her attention, we arranged a date one week out for one of Sesco's electricians to visit the property, which required me coordinating with the owner's realtor and taking time off from work to attend the inspection. At 5 p.m. the night before the inspection (scheduled for 9 a.m. the next day), Regina wrote me to say her electrician couldn't make it and gave me the names of two other electricians to call. As if I can call them after business hours for an appointment the next day! Needless to say, Sesco's customer service is awful, and their reliability just as bad. From the other reviews, it looks like they might do good work if you can get them to show up, but it's been a long time since I've experienced service this bad and with so much competition out there, why bother. Look elsewhere, oh ye mindful homeowner. read more

Pietsa and his team are a great group of electricians to work with. I'm usually very mistrusting of anyone who is in the home repair/service business, but from the very beginning, I felt that his assessment of my home's needs were fair and honest. Not only did Pietsa's team do a great job on getting the work done on time and within the contracted amount, but Pietsa also acted as an advocate for us when P.G. & E. tried to overcharge us for the work that needed to be done. He came out, took pictures, and wrote a great letter explaining exactly why the work was necessary, and why they were wrong to charge us as much as they were saying. In the end, because of that letter, P.G. & E. did the work free of charge for us.....A rare win for me in the home improvement world. I still have a healthy mistrust of home repair specialists, but at least I have found an electrician that I can count on in the East Bay. It's such a treat to have a contractor to rave about! I had several come estimate work. Their rates were comparable, but Sesco's knowledge and responsiveness blew the others away. The work was great, as was their service, but what prompted me to write this up was yesterday when PG&E came out, made a mistake that cut off power to two of our four units, and then blamed Sesco. Regina at Cesco spent the morning on the phone with PG&E, helping them to understand that it was their fault, and making sure they corrected the problem today. Now we all have power restored to all houses, and a promise from today's PG&E guy to give a talking to yesterday's guy. Now, we'd already paid in full a while back, and another contractor could have just said "Hey, this is your problem." I was very happy (though not surprised) that Sesco jumped in on our behalf and made sure PG&E cleaned up their mistake. Repeat performance. One of the 8 apartments in this 100 year-old building was vacated so this was an excellent opportunity to upgrade. As usual, Greg came up with an innovative way to gain access to all areas by creating a small access door into the attic. A new 20/30 electrical distribution panel was installed in the unit's hall fed by 60 amps from the main panel. I am pleased to say the job was done efficiently and with integrity. I used Sesco several years ago, long before I used Yelp. Recently needed a electrition and noticed I had not reviewed them. I manage a 10,000 square foot Historical residence in the Berkeley hills. The team at Sesco did a spectacular job replacing our main service from the pole to all new panels. The house is a 100 years old all concrete and all projects are complicated. Not only did Sesco have to deal with the usual permits but also had to negotiate a solution between PG&E and the city landmarks commission that took a lot of extra effort in their part. All work was completed without issues. Great communication. They also did a small job replacing a bunch of sconces, I was as happy with the service on the small job as I was on the big job. Will be using them again this week. read more

Sesco came out to give an estimate on replacing some 2-prong outlets with 3-prong, installing some ethernet outlets, and replacing our elcctrical panel. They told me that it would be $250-$400 to put in 3-prong outlets, $50 to put in a GFCI and wrote this into their contract. Over the course of two visits by their electrician, they replaced one outlet with a GFCI and another with 3-prong and then sent me a bill for $1569. I canceled the rest of my work with them. Don't use this company, and if you do, just ignore their estimates. I paid $1569, $1000 over their estimate in our contract, to just have a single grounded outlet put in a wall and a single GFCI installed. Don't trust them. read more

We are completing a complex project with Sesco Electrical and the experience has been fantastic. Sesco came highly recommended from a former electrician turned home inspector whom I trust implicitly. As a former electrician, he said "Sesco are the only folks I would have help me on my projects" and I understand why. From Pietsa the business owner to Martha the office manager to Greg Potter who did most of the work on our house they are very professional, very knowledgeable, very responsive and really seemed to care about the job they were doing and the communication with us. Pietsa and Greg are extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of electrical projects and repair. Not only did they scope the work properly and then execute - including managing some unforeseen curve balls as you're want to have when you open the walls on a 100 year old house. But they also managed the interface / process / permits with both PG&E and our local municipality, which involved multiple inspections, plenty of paperwork and lots of scheduling. They are always happy to answer questions, over email / phone / in person, from the mundane to the more complex. They showed up promptly at 8am and worked well past 5pm on multiple days to get a certain part of the project started / finished in one day, etc. Incidentally, we had another highly regarded contractor come by and when he saw Sesco working on the house commented "Greg is great - about as much of a perfectionist as you will get. Very particular about getting things right". What more could I ask for. I highly recommend Sesco and will be engaging them for more work in the future. read more

Sesco did a fantastic job sorting out our newly purchased home's electrical issues. They were able to wire in all the new fixtures we wanted as well as bypass all of the knob and tube as they went. Bypassing the knob and tube wasn't something we were expecting to be able to do on our budget. We were not impressed that the estimator did not seem to talk with the electrician and then a third billing person who was outright unable to answer a simple question on what specifics were completed wrt our job.
