Yummy yum yum! I tried the Mushroom Roll, nutty buddy wrap, and the Pandan Mousse Cake. The truffle on the mushroom was just enough, not overpowering but enough to taste & still enjoy the other aspects. The tofu normally comes inside the wrap, but was ordered on the side. The sauce on the outside is visually pretty for serving, but made for messy eating. I would've preferred a container of sauce to dip into. The tofu was amazing- so so firm. I wonder what brand they use?! The Pandan Mousse Cake was delicious. The hard white chocolate shell made cutting nicely into it difficult, but that's okay. I loved the yuzu curd and the Pandan flavor throughout. Our waitress was so nice! Fun fact, she let us know that they now have to inform all customers that Beyond Sushi is completely vegan/plant based/animal protein free due to many upset customers not knowing this and being upset by the food they received (a customer came in while I was dining and promptly left after learning that the menu was vegan and that there was no animal protein fish, so I asked how often that happened). I have never had vegan fish like this before, I got the rainbow roll which has fake tuna and salmon and I was totally blown away by the texture and taste. Granted I haven't had real fish in like 8 years but I thought it was insanely realistic. The place itself is pretty small, could probably seat around 20 people. Very clean and the servers were absolutely wonderful. After my meal I was talking with my waitress and she gave me a business card for the parent company which also owns a bunch of other vegan restaurants in NYC. They have a nice lunch special where you can get discounted menu items for a pretty good deal. read more

One of my friends is a vegan, so when we go out to eat, we often come to this place (or its affiliate on W. 37th). We try to come at lunchtime to take advantage of the specials, but we came at dinnertime a couple of days ago, and it was as great as always. I've never had a dish that I didn't like and in fact I've loved pretty much all of them. The staff is super-nice and the atmosphere is pleasant and not noisy. I come here every time I'm in NYC and this visit I went to Beyond Sushi 3x to try out the whole menu! I didn't like this location as much as I like their larger one. This place is super small yet crowded for lunch on Saturday. When you walk in it's not clear that you are to pick your own table to sit, the hostess stays back by the kitchen and doesn't come greet you at the door. I was excited to see that they were copying Nami Nori's open-style sushi hand rolls. I figure better go to a vegan place so I don't taste the fish from their gloves on my rolls right? There is a good reason why this is one of their classic rolls. Visually, the black rice makes it stunning when contrasted with the vibrant mango and avocado. It also has a nice amount of spice from the topping and the sauce. I would recommend getting this along with another item as it was not super filling on its own. - oshizushi spicy salmon (10/10): pressed rice topped with spicy salmon, lime, scallions, and truffle caviar with a side of smoked pepper sauce. This dish was one of the best vegan sushi i have ever eaten. The salmon has a slight sweet yet salty taste that seems to mimic what real salmon would taste like. We stopped in for a late lunch on a Tuesday, just in time to take advantage of their lunch special: $19 for any of their three ramens, or a choice of 2 items from their dumplings, sushi, and side dishes. I got the sesame miso ramen (ordinarily $24), which comes with dark soy roasted "chicken" -- which had a remarkably realistic texture and was very well-marinated -- along with a big piece of bok choy, marinated shiitake mushrooms, a vegan soft-boiled egg, and well-cooked noodles. Everything was great about this except the broth, honestly -- which lacked depth and complexity; it was just a simple miso broth really. The broth needs work, but the toppings and noodles were top-quality. My wife got the mighty mushroom roll and the five-spice chicken dumplings, both of which were fantastic. The dumplings had great, chewy wrappers, filled with minced "chicken", and coated in this delectable yuzu-soy glaze. The mushroom rolls were filled with shiitake mushrooms and topped with this delicious mushroom truffle sauce. Tasty stuff. The sake was good but disappointing with quantity and how it already came poured in a glass. Nutty buddy rolls were incredible and 4.5/5 stars Spicy mango rolls disappointing without much mango taste and not spicy. 2.5/5 stars Sweet tree rolls tasted nice and the sweet potato was delicious but nothing too crazy. Those cauliflower wings were so good! Lovely texture and flavor. The salmon avocado honestly tasted pretty close to the real thing. We couldn't figure out how they made this. Very very impressive. The mighty mushroom had wonderful umami flavor. Even my daughter who hates mushrooms said it was really good. That's saying a lot! I would say the wild rice is slightly too mushy or sticky to compliment the textures of the roll. It needs a bit more definition in the grain. So I had a friend tell me average things about this place but we were starving and wanted to grab something to eat. We started with the ginger beef dumplings and sheesh they wowed us! The texture was incredible and the flavor was so on point we had 2 orders. After the dumplings- which were amazing we got the noodles - our server told us that it was not a hot (in temp) dish but it actually was and the egg on top cut like a real egg which was bizarre yet fascinating. Again flavors were soooo good. We ordered a rainbow roll, I would have to say that was our least favorite. Just did not taste great and maybe because everything else we had was packed with flavor. We ended our meal with the chicken skewers that were delicious! The texture was crazy good and the flavors were on point yet again. I really appreciate that this place is a fully vegan sushi bar, and its location is very ideal given the short walk from Columbus Circle metro, with a lot of other things I frequent nearby. I guess I was expecting more with the options and my experience - it is smaller than expected (which is completely fine!), but it seems that they get most of their flavor from the aesthetic placement of sauce they put on top of the sushi pieces. I would love to be able to taste more of the vegetables or ginger itself. I also got a nutty buddy roll due to the rave reviews, but found it to have too many noodles inside to be able to taste much else. I have never tried vegan/ vegetarian sushi before and I'm so glad that this spot was the first place I tried to get some. I loved almost everything I got here especially the spicy salmon tartare. The salmon tartare was my favorite thing here! They did such a good job in replicating the texture of real salmon and even the taste! The taste wasn't really as fishy as real salmon but it would be very hard to distinguish the taste difference between real salmon and the vegan salmon they had. The only thing I didn't really like was the sweet tree roll. I didn't like the sweet potato inside the sushi roll because it made it seem too sweet- kinda like a dessert sushi roll. Came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon with a group of 4. We were seated right away, but it is a fairly small location. We were given the last table, and I could absolutely see there being a substantial wait at busier times. I had visited their Herald Square location a few times when I lived in NY, so I was excited to introduce my partner to it when we visited since she doesn't eat meat and hadn't tried faux fish sushi before. While it was a solid meal and novel experience, I think their quality has gone done a bit since I last visited a few years ago. The biggest ding our group had with the dishes was that the faux fish was all generally lacking in flavor. While the texture was a good representation of fish, they didn't taste like much. I don't remember being blown away by the fish on previous visits, but it was pretty glaring this time around. Another change I was dissapointed with was that most rolls now use white rice instead of black. I remember the rich, nutty, black rice giving all the rolls a high floor in terms of flavor. Overall their menu has shifted more towards 1-1 replication of traditional sushi dishes, whereas I remember them being more of a vegetarian alternative to sushi, with some faux fish flavors incorporated. Overall, I think this is probably skippable now, even if you're visiting NY and looking specifically for vegetarian alternatives to fish. This was my first time at a vegan sushi restaurant and it was a pretty decent experience. There were a lot of seats available when we walked in; this place was a lot spacious than I expected with good interior designs. We were seated right away, but it took awhile for someone to give us the menu and water. After ordering, the food came out pretty fast, but it didn't quite meet my expectations. The miso soup was really big portion, maybe a bit too for 1-2 people. I was sharing with my friend, and we still had a lot left over at the end of our meal. What was disappointing was that the seaweed and tofu in the miso soup was really undercooked/pretty raw... Usually the texture is softer and the miso taste is integrated with those two, but that was not the case here. I forget which dish we got but it was something as close to a dragon roll. There were a lot of mushrooms in it, which was pretty overbearing as I barely was able to taste the other ingredients. Once again, it took forever to get someone's attention for the check.. We had plans to go somewhere afterwards but it took way too long.. Some of the workers here don't speak full English, which was totally fine, but good to note to be patient with them as they are still very friendly and want to give you the best service! read more

Next we moved to the Spicy Jackfruit Crab roll and Mighty Mushroom roll. Both were good but hats off to the jackfruit which is considered one of their specialty rolls.
