I was looking for some good take out food near my area and found this little gem. Reading some of the other users' reviews, I kinda wished I tried the "Phillies" cheese steak from here first but I ordered the Chicken Shawarma on a pita instead and it did not dissappoint! It was delicious! As for the establishment, it's very small and it's strictly just for take out unless you like eating while standing - reminds of some of the little Middle Eastern take out places in NYC. read more

The owner Jerry is a wonderful guy who makes a great falafel and wonderful hummus. I do tend to agree that if he could change the pita to make it more hearty, it would be wonderful. The falafel tends to be a little bit messy!!! But it is a great spot for a quick takeout. read more

We ordered the beef platter and the guy asked us specifically how we want our meat - medium rare. That crap came out WELL DONE and as chewy as can be. Really, not even a hint of pink. Why ask then? My dining buddy stills b*tches about this place after 2 weeks. Also, they should just call the platter a hummus platter because that what was there the most. Now, I love hummus and all, to the point where I've even made my own, but half an aluminum bowl of it? Me thinks not. Made everything soggy and ladened with it, the fries, the salad, the chewy bs he calls medium rare. All that for $11. No way, never again. Initially the falafel would've saved it until two bites in. The balls get all cold and the whole thing is just falling apart because of the extremely excessive amounts of sauce. My $6 halal cart meal that comes with a drink in front of my local CVS is 1,000x better. read more

Best falafel place in Montclair and New Jersey period. Lots of other places have opened up nearby that are pretty good but they've failed because hard to compete with this place. We get take out from Beyond Pita often and everything is pretty delicious. My kids like this place so much they won't order from any other falafel place out of loyalty to Jerry and the rest of the crew. read more

I have been to this place several times and it is the best falafel in New Jersey. Manhattan has all kinds of delicious falafel falling off the trees, but not in this part of New Jersey. This guy has great food, and he's really nice. That is a very small kitchen to be in all day and that can make a person hot, tired and grouchy, but he has always been polite to me. I do not understand these bad reviews by people who want to come in at the end of the day and expect to have the full menu available to them, they have no idea how cooking and the food business works. The falafel is great and so is the hummus, babganousgh, and other salads. The little kibbi patties filled with beef are really good also. Excellent falafels. It was full of flavor and is ten times better than any falafel chain around (like Pure Pita). The pita was grilled perfectly and the toppings to go with the falafels were fantastic. If you take it to go, it is pretty messy because the pita falls apart. Also ordered the beef shawarma which I don't recommend. It just wasn't very good. However, if you're a fan of grape leaves, then definitely try them here. They are very good. I would love to give this place zero stars. For starters, I didn't even get to eat. When I ordered my food the older guy at the counter says " You DO know Falafel isn't meat Right? It's chickpeas." When I asked him why he asked me that he said "I just want to make sure you know the difference." I ignored and proceeded to order a Chicken platter with rice and salad. He then begins to break down the type of chicken styles they make, as if I never ordered a platter. Mind you I called before arriving. Then a white customer came in after me and he begin to take his order in the middle of mine. At that point I excused myself! I will never spend a dime here! I was in the mood for Chicken Shawarma so I decided to give this place a try for lunch. I should have made another decision. There were several issues with this establishment. First, the staff was extremely rude. When I asked about what came on their shawarma sandwich, the gentleman appeared to be aggravated by my question. Moving on. I don't like tahini paste, so I asked if they had garlic sauce which is what I would usually request if a place has it. No. Fine. I ordered the sandwich dry because I had already taken the drive. He really just threw this thing together, and not in a good way. The chicken was sour and skimpy, old lettuce... overall the sandwich was just a mess. I tossed it as soon as I got home. I'm not more aggravated by their limited options as I am by the level of service and general lack of concern with handling people's food. I would never recommend this place. That pains me to say as a local as I know businesses are struggling. I think they should be more respectful of every customer that walks through their doors. read more

Great place! The gyro and falafel are really good. The meat/falafel was nicely grilled. The baba ganush could be more garlicky. The place is tiny, in winter you can only take out. In summer they have a few tables outside to sit and enjoy your food. read more

This is the best gyro place in Montclair. The zaziki sauce has that chalky dry taste its supposed to have. Its not sweet unlike some food restaurants where they make it sweet. It's not thick like mayonnaise. This place has the best zaziki sauce I've had on a gyro. The lamb meat are strips not diced cubes as I've had from other places. I've ordered Lamb cheese steak which I prefer over beef. They'll make your plate however you ask. I've also ordered a gyro in a hero bread. I've been getting gyros from here for many years. If you like hot (spicy, not temperature) try the owner's (green) hot sauce (forgot the name, start with a "Z"). It makes for a very interesting pita sandwich experience. It was mediocre. the entire thing actually fell apart as soon as i started eating it, so it ended up being more of a salad than sandwich. the flavors were mediocre. there are better places to go for mediterranean food in this town. read more

Beyond Pita serves up the best falafel in the world. The line is usually out the door at all times. There is no seating so be prepared to either eat in your car or bring back home. The baklava is made by the owner's sister in law (I think) and it is so good. I've had the Galilea platter and it's big enough to split. My favorite place in New Jersey. Real authentic Mediterranean food. Everything is made freshly right in front of your eyes. The owner is a very humble and friendly person. I always get the Galilea - 4 falafel balls, baba ganoush, hummus and tabbouleh over romaine lettuce, with whole wheat pita and hot sauce. Soooo filling, and for only $8.99, I can typically eat half and save the rest and have it for lunch the next day. I disagree that the falafel is hockey puck-esque. They fry them on the spot and they're perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft and warm on the inside. They chop all of the parsley for the tabbouleh by hand, which I find incredibly impressive, and it always tastes fresh. Sure, it's a hole in the wall, but they know what they're doing. read more

Small, to-go only, a bodega-like spot with delicious Mediterranean food, great for a quick bite. Some of their menu items I enjoy include the Falafel sandwich (the sauce is either tahini/hummus - it's delicious. Flavors are solid. Execution leaves a little to be desired. I used to make allowances for places with tiny kitchens, until I saw the Falafel place off Bleecker in the Village...ya know, the one that's about 4 feet wide. My favorites are the chicken shawarma, cheesesteak and gyro but the rest of the menu is solid as well, including cold cuts sandwiches, breakfast, etc. The baklava is delicious if you're looking for desert. Been coming here regularly for the past 5 years or so. Having lunch somewhere else in the area is pointless when food here is so affordable, filling, and did I mention absolutely DELICIOUS? I must have tried everything on the menu by now (no, really) and it's all very tasty. The food is consistently good and fresh. I stick to the falafel sandwich now, add hummus and Jerry's homemade hot sauce and you're in heaven. I have yet to find a better falafel sandwich in NY or NJ and trust me, I eat a lot of falafels. I had the chicken shawarma sandwich and while all the flavors were great, it was just too messy! I get that it may add to the whole vibe the restaurant may be trying to portray, but it doesn't work. I think in 15 years of eating here, I'm still shocked that Jerry doesn't seem to recognize me. You might see my other reviews and think I'm pessimistic, but no/ I'm just telling the truth. Get some perfect hummus, grape leaves perhaps? Always ask for warmed up grape leaves..wherever you get them. Tiny little hole in the wall place. I ordered a chicken shawarma because I'm currently obsessed with them. It was very, very messy and basically fell completely apart before I could take one bite, but it was delicious. I really like the sauce. This Montclair staple is a great place for your falafel fix. I'm partial to the chicken kabob with rice and beans. But my office goes baserk everytime someone brings in the cheese steak sandwich. This is a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner. There's no indoor seating, so you're on your own in terms of sitting down. The falafel is out of this world though, I would sit on the pavement to eat it. read more
