We were in the area looking for something to eat and decided to stop in here. It's a pretty small place. We got the chicken shawarma sandwich and a small side of hummus. Service seems to be quick, our order didn't take long and we noticed other people ordering to go was pretty quick as well. The sandwich was really good. Full of flavors and spices! You can't go wrong with ordering the Hut Big Combo platter. 2 Chicken kebabs, 1 beef kebab, and kofta with wi the chicken or beef shawarma with salad, rice or fries and bread. We shared it between 2 people with plenty of leftovers to bring home. The meat was so tender and juicy, especially the chicken kebabs and the salad was so fresh. I read the great reviews about this place, and since I didn't feel like cooking I decided to try it. I'm glad that I did. We ordered the Hut Sampler, the Big Hut Combo, a side of Fries, and Baklava. The Hut Sampler comes with hummus, baba ganush, tabouli, grape leaves, and falafel. This is a very generous portion. Every element was delicious, but the stars were the baba ganush and falafel. I mean it is the falafel hut, right? No dry crumbly falafel here. Moist and flavorful and delicious! And the baba ganush was the best I've ever eaten. The Big Hut Combo was also extremely generous. Chicken, beef, shawarma, and kofta served with rice and salad. These were all very good, with my favorite being the beef. The chicken was not dry at all and was well seasoned. The Fries were also particularly crispy and delicious. The Baklava must be homemade, because it was probably the best I've ever had. And you get three big pieces in an order. All in all, Falafel Hut will go in my takeout rotation. Great food, fair prices, and large portions. read more

First time visit. I'm still learning how to spell a dish I love--Falafel. Falafel Hut is a small place mostly for take-out of Mediterranean food with 20 cafeteria-style hard chairs. We dined in. A minute walk from Upper Montclair train station. We found street parking (meters until 7 pm) at 6:30 pm. Order at the counter and served at your table. Enjoyed an appetizer of Baba Ghanoush (roasted eggplant) with pita for dunking. Entrées of Falafel Platter including side salad and yellow rice, Falafel pita sandwich, and Spicy Philly Cheese Steak Wrap. There were no leftovers. Tasty and freshly prepared. Items came out from the kitchen when each item was ready. Friendly staff, though interaction with staff was minimal. No itemized check, so trust that they do the math correctly...not a good practice. On this first chilly day of October, the heat had not been turned on. Tip: Believe the place is BYOB, but no signage. Will bring own next time. Between 3.5 and 4. Will return. read more

Wow this is a find! Located on a beautiful little quiet street in beautiful Montclair, the food is a.ma.zing. I asked why the greens on the falafel wrap were SO fresh and was told that they have very little storage space, so they go to the market multiple times a day--and it shows. Plus, the falafel is not bean-based, like other places that are not focused on quality, but rather there are more vegetables in it...it's cooked perfectly and tastes (did I already say?) a.ma.zing. The hummus and warm pita was also fabulous and the baklava is made there and not the gummy kind you often have, this is perfectly crisp, and just sweet enough. Go here now. read more

A great, delicious way to support a Palestinian owned business! The food (especially the Mista Salad with flafel + lamb pita) are incredible. Complex but fresh flavors and everything is so fresh. All their dishes are loaded up with crisp veggies and delicious sauces. The mista salad is heavy on black pepper and it just has the most incredible flavor, the flafel is also always fresh and crispy on the outside but fluffy and warm on the inside. Take out or eat in or on the sidewalk it's a great choice in the area where there are too many choices to choose from. The prices are also great, everything is about $10-15!! As anyone can see from my previous review and from all of my check-ins at Falafel Hut, I'm a big fan. Their food is all incredibly fresh and the service is fast and friendly. Despite my many visits I'm a creature of habit, so I rarely deviate from my usual order of either the falafel or the gyro, and when I say "rarely", I really mean "never". So today when I decided to toss it up a bit and try their Kafta Kabab, there was a noticeable pause behind the counter and everyone looked up at me as if to say "really?" It was actually pretty amusing. They know me so well. For those not familiar with Kafta, it's a skewer of ground beef and lamb mixed with fresh parsley, onions, garlic and spices, which is grilled over a flame. As with many of the items on the menu, the Kofta here is their own recipe. I chose to have the Kafta Kabab in a whole wheat wrap (it's usually served in pita). It included lettuce, red cabbage, onions, tomato, pickles and tahini, and it was delicious. If you like gyros, you'll like Kafta (maybe even more). The Kafta has a firmer texture and because it's made with fresh lamb and beef the flavors are more dynamic. I will definitely be having it again. Maybe next time though I'll shock them once more and try their Lamb Kabab (which also looks very tempting as it marinates in yogurt and spices). As always, Falafel Hut did not disappoint. read more

Words cannot even begin to describe how much I love Falafel Hut. We had my sister's baby shower in Montclair and I was in dire need of a restaurant that caters. I came across Falafel Hut through their great reviews online. We decided to place the order with Sam and it was the best decision. We had 70 people at the event and every single dish was devoured! We got a variety of items: 1. Chicken and lamb kebabs: the meat was SO fresh and juicy, and SO super flavorful. Highly recommend! Lamb at most restaurants can be tough, but theirs was still so tender! 2. Falafel: it was so flavorful, not dry or oily at all! Both vegetarians and non-vegetarians enjoyed them! 3. Hummus, Baba Ganoush, and Tabouli: their hummus is so smooth, the baba is delicious and the tabouli added the perfect freshness. The service was wonderful, and everything was delivered perfectly on time! I really appreciated Sam taking the time to work with us on exactly how much we would need, and giving us his helpful insight. It made a world of a difference. Amazing falafel! We ordered over the phone for take out and it was ready in 15 minutes. We had falafel in pita, a chicken shawarma and lamb kebab and an order of fries (which is standard for us anywhere). Every thing was excellent! All the sandwhich were packed and were definitely a filling meal. The fries were also nice and crispy which doesn't always happen when doing take out or delivery. It's also a very cost effective place. We paid just over $30 for everything. We haven't tried other falafel places yet, but I think this will be our go to! I love this place. I've been going to Falafel Hut for more years than I choose to remember. The food has consistently been fresh and flavorful. Portion size and value are also on point which is kind of rare for Montclair. My go to dish is the Georgie platter which is shredded seasoned chicken cooked well done on a bed of seasoned yellow rice and humus. I know it doesn't sound like much but it's delicious. A few other faves are the stuffed grape leaves, tabbouleh, spinach pie as well as the Jerusalem platter. I highly recommend this place and look forward to my next visit. read more
