A cold smoothie sounded good on this balmy Saturday by the eastern market. I got my favorite Carla's detox and my hubby got his usual favorite here, the banana nut with PB. The entrance is small and only allows for two guests at a time to maintain 6 feet apart. No entry beyond the front area. We ordered the Carla's detox and the banana nut with PB. Wait outside and a staff member brings it out to you based on the name given. Good thing it's not raining at all. There's some loud music on the adjacent corner, makes it feel like a street club scene here on Russell street. There's nowhere to sit or stand and wait, should at least put out a few patio seats in case people want to sit for a spell, especially when there's a nice breeze and some shading right out front too. Juices don't taste too bad, still a bit chunky for my detox but generally the same flavor as any other beyond juice. The banana nut tastes the same as any of the other locations. read more

I would NEVER pay $20 for a smoothie until I tried the smoothie here. OMG they had small samples at the entry and as soon as I tried it I was hooked. I don't know exactly how many ingredients were in it but it was packed with vitamins and extra wellness items that you don't even taste (like spirulina which isn't that tasty). I had also ordered a mocha banana coffee like smoothie that contained caffeine and that I could drink daily. If you question the price don't these smoothies are NOT small...but the flavors amazing. I thought this was a good option at the Eastern Market. Walking around on a Saturday for hours the kids get hungry and thirsty. As we finally made our way over here, one kid ate through the market and needed a smoothie to wash it down, and the other had not had a meal yet, so a smoothie bowl was a great option! I was able to concoct my own 'build your own' juice to get just the right combination of flavors that I was craving. If freestyling isn't your thing, Beyond features a menu of pre-selected juice and smoothie blends for you to choose from. All drinks on the menu are relatively low in calories but still high impact on taste. We didn't have the opportunity to try the food items, but I'm looking forward to grabbing one of those fancy green wraps next time I stop in. For this place to have been closed due to the wall collapsing a few years ago, you would think they would come back better! I walked in today for the first time since the collapsed, I work in Eastern market. One person making all the food never turns around to even say hi to me, yet alone let me know that she Will be with me as soon as she can. It took 3 to 5 minutes for someone else to come out for her to walk out completely pass me go all the way down to where DoorDash food is and talk to someone waiting there. Mind you, another lady approached her and said she was quoted 20 minutes for her food, but she had been there for 40 minutes. Finally the woman greets me and says it's going to be a long wait for food. I said I just want to drink. Place my order, they did the same thing to the lady that was behind me. Smoothies were tasty got the banana peanut butter smoothie was alright taste and consistency wise. Ordered the Greek veggie wrap, this wrap makes no sense never had a Greek salad with spicy asparagus on it it would be better with classic banana peppers for a spicy bite. The whole time I was eating this I was thinking what in the heck is burning my throat it's the spicy asparagus. I mean in what world do you put asparagus on a Greek salad? Stopped by on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and had a great experience and the prices are great. They offer a variety of food and drink including fresh juices, smoothies, wraps, salads, sandwiches, and quinoa bowls. I had a smoothie and a wrap so I can discuss those in the most details. Most of the smoothies range from $5.50-$7, which for the size and the quality is great. I had the Sunrise (Strawberry, Banana, Orange Juice, Coconut H20, Lime, Honey, Vanilla) and it was $5.50 for a HUGE portion (it seriously lasted me all day). I also got the turkey avocado wrap (turkey with sliced tomatoes, romaine, muenster cheese, avocado and hummus) on a spinach wrap and the portion was huge for a mere $8.50. Snacks and things vary from housemade (sesame bars, quick breads, etc) to lots of locally made items like Better Made chips, Yumbitz cookies, etc. The space is bright and airy and located right in the heart of Eastern Market and the service was SO nice. Very chatty and generous (we got samples of several juices, sesame bars, and a little slice of a lemon poppy seed quick bread). Beyond is expanding throughout Metro-Detroit (with 5 locations and counting) and I'm so happy to see them succeed. Lots of fresh smoothies, juices and simple food options - great new addition to EM area and good hours for the location as well! This is a popular chain in Metro Detroit area with prices similar to other juice and smoothie bars - a bit pricey for me to stop daily but if they had a "Frequent Customer" card or program then I could definitely see myself taking advantage of it. That said, I will always chose a place (and therefore pay more) that uses real ingredients rather than a place that uses fake fruit flavored powder, like the many bubble tea "shake" places. I got a 20 oz ANNA smoothie (gotta go with a namesake!) for $6, made of blueberries, coconut water, strawberry, banana, lime, PB, honey, and vanilla. 20 oz is huge and it was a delicious, refreshing, drink with just the right amount of sweetness. I also wanted to try one of their juices so got the "Bold and Balanced" [16 oz juice for $9] made of collards, grapefruit, apple, kale, spinach, and ginger. I had it the next day after my yoga class (I know, so hipster!) and it was a perfect "pick me up" after a sweaty workout. Juices probably have more raw and expensive ingredients, but at this price point, they would be more of a special occasion for me. To compare, I did pick up a V8 "green machine" drink at the supermarket the next weekend, and it did not have the same sweetness or smoothness of Beyond's juice! A lot of the food options are things that I create for myself at home. Oatmeal bowls, egg white wraps, and salads, so for me, the value of buying it outside is not there....however as they transition to the fall and maybe have some warm weather options like soups, that would be great too! **This reviews the fall menu! Wow their fall menu items and their flavors are BEYOND me, it fits their name. My family and I got the carrot ginger soup, maple bacon turkey wrap, and autumn bowl. We went overboard with ordering almost everything that was fall featured but that's what we were craving. It makes for a good review though. I HIGHLY recommend the carrot ginger soup. At first, I really didn't think I was going to like it because I'm not a carrot fan but boy was I wrong! They let me sample it before buying and even that one taste test I was surprised! I was so blown away by the carrot ginger soup I didn't want to share it with my family haha. It almost had that Indian spice to it and full of creamy textures almost like tomato soup but carroty if that's even a word. The basil topped it off. The maple bacon turkey wrap was just as healthily great hands down! It's so much better when it's toasted and with the spinach tortilla wrap too. The autumn bowl and the mango coconut smoothie did not disappoint either. Everything was just beautifully made, it's like a glorified tropical smoothie cafe but 100x better. I easily find parking because there is so many options, including street parking and a lot directly across the street. I love that they offer so many fresh options and delicious drinks. I can't say the service is the friendliest, so I took away a star, but I do like their drinks, so I try to look past it. Value wise, I would say smoothie prices are on target with other places in the area. A large smoothie, as is, is around $7. I ordered fresh celery juice for the first time and was a little taken aback by the $10 price tag, but it tasted okay. I've been a fan of Beyond Juice for awhile now, as I typically go to the Birmingham location. This is a nice healthy addition to Eastern Market. The space is large and bright as well. The menu is standard, loads of smoothies, fresh juices and a few food items such as salads and sandwiches to chose from. On my visit I had Anna's smoothie with no banana. The girl working the register struggled to hear my order because between the music and the ongoing blenders it was very loud in there. As a result she didn't hear the no banana part. So as I watched them make my smoothie and put in banana I had to let them know. The girls making the smoothie were very nice and had no issue starting over. First, as a resident of Eastern Market, I appreciate their extended hours compared to neighboring businesses. I also love that there is a healthy, fast choice available. Their menu is very forward about what you're actually getting/the nutrition you'll get from the products. Unlike large chains filled with sugary drinks disguised as healthy, the juice and salads here are good for you - and you'd think you were getting a REAL treat (by my standards...I have a major sweet tough!). This place has actually been really great for me because if I'm craving something sugary, I'll come and get a fresh, refreshing grapefruit juice with some natural sugars instead of something processed.
