Don't expect to be "wow'd" by the service. The food is good and 'reasonably' priced. The service... meh.... not so much. I walked in after "lunch rush" and there weren't many people there. I sat down and waited 10 minutes (this was after I started paying attention to the time so it was longer than that) before a young waitress came out of the kitchen. Not really a warm greeting, just pretty much a "what can I get ya" type thing. I was never checked on after my food was brought out to see if I needed anything or asked how the food was. When I paid, the waitress just took my money and gave me back my change. Literally, not a word was said by her. Reluctantly, I still tipped her even though she probably didn't "deserve" one. My last visit here was the same way (same waitress too). I went back because I thought maybe the waitress was just having a bad day or was just feeling busy. Also, the food was good and I figured it wasn't much of a sacrafice if I received sub-par service. Long story short:, Good food and I'd recommend going there if you're not so much concerned with service. read more

Small, old time indepent diner-the oldest restaurant in Redwing. I stopped for lunch today after finding King's in Miesville was closed due to a plumbing back up. Glad I spent the extra time to ride to Redwing. I ordered the full portion of beer battered cod and a chocolate malt. Huge portions-seven large chunks of tasty cod, bowl of peas, toast and a large serving of fries. Malt came with extra in the metal cup. I could not finish the whole meal-left about half the fries. $6.99 for the cod, $3.75 for the malt. I'm tired of seeing restaurants that charge $5.00 to $6.00 or more for a frickin' malt-get real. Bev's was a pleasant suprise. I shall return. read more

Love Bev's. People are always nice and the breakfast is great-hometown-good. It's a nice nostalgic place with Farmer's and locals relaxing early in the morning. Very relaxing and the food is HUGE and delish with local delicacies like weird grits with spam or something in them. HAD TO TRY IT. Mmmmmmm YUM!! The scrambles are great. The "Nest is out of this world, with an egg in your pancake and scrumptious bacon stick here and there right in the pancake! Pick you're meat. They took so much care to make it, the cook actually just scrapped off the top section of the pancake and let the pancake actually 'hold' the egg. Very unique, surprisingly good. The coffee is fresh and excellent. I also hate bad coffee! Waitress staff is sweet and very attentive. Free coffee cup for Mother's Day and cute T's too! read more

Love the hometown feel and great service.

It's a small cafe with a menu that includes breakfast all day and great home cooking treats like meatloaf sandwiches. The employees had good attitudes and great service. I had a scramble with hash browns, bacon, cheese and sausage. And yes, the milkshakes were served in a parfait glass with whipped cream and cherry on top. Great value and good food. read more

They were busy and we were on a tight schedule. We stayed anyway and after we ordered we asked if our food could be put in to go containers right away. They were more than willing to do this, and gave us our ticket right away so we could pay and be on our way. The patty melt was delicious and juicy!! My daughter ordered the stroganoff burger and loved it. Fries were good too! Staff was very polite. It is a cozy hometown cafe environment! I wish we had one in our town! The food was good, but was annoyed at the end of the meal to find out that they only take checks and cash(?). Had to use the ATM on premises to get cash incurring a fee of $2.50 from my bank! Try could easily have a note on the table giving you a heads up before you order. Very strange practice in this cashless day and age. read more

I had the bleu cheese burger with a bowl of clam chowder. I was very impressed with both. The clam chowder was thick and creamy and the burger was just right!!! Not a bad meal for $7. The waitress was helpful and efficient. I left feeling full and satisfied. read more

After hearing a glowing recommendation from a friend we decided to give Bev's Cafe a shot. We have been decidedly underwhelmed with all of the other restaurants we've tried in the area and were looking forward to something satisfying and delicious. We arrived at 12:30 on Sunday and were able to immediately score a booth. Mother/daughter waitress duo seemed to be a little overwhelmed and scattered but we were acknowledged quickly. The menu had standard diner fare with a few surprises. The cream cheese stuffed french toast was very tempting but I was feeling savory rather than sweet and opted for the chicken fried steak. It was prepared well and the gravy was thick and luscious without being gluey. The hash browns were made from shaved potatoes which worked out really well. My scrambled eggs were actually eggs! My only complaint was that it was a little bland but I understand they have to appeal to the typically bland Minnesotan palate. To compensate they have some all purpose Greek seasoning on the tables and it was DELICIOUS! My husband ordered the stroganoff burger and it was really, really good. Dined at Bev's today; we were a table of three, it was awful! The food took an hour and a half to come out. When the food arrived it was burnt. Not just one persons but all three......at least they were consistent in serving everyone burnt food today. The server was the only person who did an acceptable job, she gave us updates on the food, joked around and was attentive at keeping out coffee and drinks refilled. As local residents we've dined here before and haven't had this problem, although the food is never very good. It appears the kitchen completely fell apart today. More disappointing was we received no compensation, a small gesture such as free coffee or soda would have shown us that - yes, we the staff recognize service was slow today and we'd like to give you compensation. Unfortunately this was not the case. Understand that today each of our checks exceeded 15 dollars, at minimum we figure we left around sixty dollars (we still tipped the server well, probably 30% because we figured she was going to have a bad day due to delays). By compensating us maybe free soda or coffees (probably six bucks) we would understand and come back again. By not offering any sort of sincere token of apology we all decided we simply won't return - that's multiple sixty dollar visits Bev's won't see in the future. My recommendation for breakfast / brunch in Red Wing would be to go to the St James Veranda where the food is tasty, fresh, and timely. Completely unacceptable is my assessment of Bev's. read more

We were in Red Wing after see Donny and Marie in concert at the casino. We needed breakfast and were looking for a local diner. We found Bev's Cafe to be a cute little local diner. Our breakfast was perfect. Very friendly staff and food to die for. The stuffed french toast is stuffed with cream cheese and we had the raspberry topping. I wish I had ordered instead of my sister. The raspberry topping was a homemade compote and there was plenty of it so I got to put some on my wheat toast. I will definitely go back. read more

Nice little lunch counter/soda fountain type of eatery. Came for a lunch - be prepared to wait for a table. This place is tiny. I had the best milk shake ever! Real ice cream and HUGE. Tried the special turkey & cranberry salad, yummy sweet dressaing with apples and pecans over romaine. It was a large salad but more pricey than their other Friday special. Tasty. My sister liked her BLT chicken salad very much also. On a hot day it is very warm inside, however. So you dont want to linger, but it is not a lingering type of atmosphere. Bev's is a true small town cafe. Nothing trendy at all. Breakfast is the best...on friday they have clam chowder which is good. Service can be great or staff can be too tired to care. They close up around 3 except Friday...if you eat a late lunch the begin cleaning around 2, I have a hard time trying to eat when people are cleaning the floors and worst cleaning the bathroom while you dine...I bet they do not get paid after closing so I don't blame them...the owners may want to think about it. read more
