This is the woman who everyone should looking out for, specially, if you are a person of color. Queer or not.

3rd time is the charm! ... I can provide a long negative list of things about this particular location, and to be more specific about this woman who works there by the name of "Annmarie". First of all, this person does not have a name tag when the other staff does so I'm not quite sure if she gave me her real name, but third times a charm, and this was the third time that she has purposely expressed different behavior with my boyfriend and I versus other customers. She has proven once again to be a racist and a homophobic woman. The sign clearly says that there is no one allowed in the store under the age of 21 unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian of someone who is over 21 years old. I am 42 years old and clearly over the age to drink, but that's not the problem, my boyfriend had his ID and every time that we are there, she asks us both for our IDs, even when we are not both purchasing. Today I forgot my ID, but I did not find it to be a problem because my boyfriend was the one who was purchasing and not me. Her excuse was "if you touch alcohol I need two IDs", well clearly she needs to get her eyes checked because I did not touch alcohol, I was grabbing ginger, beer, which I'm assuming she knows that ginger beer does not have alcohol. We noticed once again that she treated the customer before us who just so happen to be Caucasian, very differently, very friendly and even talked about Dad jokes, as if they were best friends. The moment we came to the register she asked us both for our IDs. We visit this store many times and never have the other cashiers have given us to much problems, and have always been kind to us. This woman has proven once again to be a nasty, uneducated, racist, and a homophobic woman. This message goes out to the manager above her by the name of PURITY ( oh, because she claimed to be the manager, which I did not believe.) We asked a nice gentleman there for the name of the manager, his name is Jimmy, and he was very helpful and super sweet, but was also very protective of this Emery woman. Please train this woman to treat humans as one and train her to learn the rules to that same store, especially if she claims to be the manager. If she does not know the laws, she should not create her own.

They have great 5 cent wine sales (which is pretty much a buy one get one free sale) so you end up getting some great wine at a great price.

We ordered a flight each to try several beers. They also offer some food options but we had already eaten lunch. We found a couple of comfy chairs but there was a large birthday party going on which the people were blocking the area and were quite noisy so had to move to another area. The beers were good and ordered a pint. There were several others I wanted to try so will have to go back to check them out.

Let's start with the positives: the service, the vibes, and the space are wonderful! I can't comment on the food. The beer though. I got a West Coast Pilsner, we literally came here because that is my favorite style of beer. The beer looked like a maple milkshake. It was murky with a grey-brown tint. Badly oxidized, and tasted horrible. I sent it back and got a lager...it looked good visually, it was bright anc clear. Then I tasted it and it was bursting with the buttery flavors of diacetyl. This beer had a slick, buttered popcorn jelly belly finish, rather than a crisp, mild hoppy bite. Maybe their ales are better than there lagers, but I didn't want to send back yet another beer. Maybe I should've though.

Wish I could speak to the food, but I didn't order anything (little late in the day for me to eat). But the menu looks hella interesting. I WILL speak about the service and beer selection. This place has a CRAZY good selection of brews considering its size. One of the best in the area actually. The bartender (Ming) is exactly what this kinda space needs: super personable, knowledgeable, supportive of the brand, and with a seriously interesting backstory. Dude plays for The Aquabats! Not afraid to talk to ppl, and understands the right balance between sharing his story and asking about yours. Unpretentious, comfortable in his skin, and clearly a good dude at heart. That's the kinda person you wanna support. Catch him on the weekends! I'll be back for more. I'm thinking there's a reason this place has a monster Yelp score...

The tomato sake bombs are a must!! They have an extensive beer menu, loved their suggestions. Bf had the chimichurri dog -- spicy link, pickled purple onions, and mayo -- and I went with the Chicago dog with mustard, relish, tomato, and dill pickle on a poppy seed bun. Everything was excellent, and a little different from the usual. Also, the bartender last night was so nice and incredibly helpful -- he gave great recommendations and just made the whole experience even better. The vibe, the creativity, and how unexpectedly good everything was made it totally worth it. We will be back!

All beers appeared to be craft, I didn't see any mainstream beers like Bud or Coors. They also offered a few craft soda options and plenty of water stations. They outdoor seating in the front or a nice large back patio as well as a few spots inside. We opted for the back patio to enjoy the random cat that was lurking around. It does appear the back patio is dog friendly as well. We ordered the prosciutto and fig pizza, an OG pepperoni and the garlic breadsticks. It did take longer than I expected for our food, but we did come right at opening so maybe morning prep took some time. We really liked the prosciutto a fig, the balsamic glaze and the sweetness of the agave paired well. I do wish the garlic bread was more garlicky. It was more of a cheesy bread in my opinion, which was still delicious. We will definitely be back. And what's even better is Gunters is right down the street so you can enjoy a sweet treat after a nice meal and ice cold beer.

So the wifey and I are day drinking our way thru Oak Park on this particular Saturday and as we…read morewere kinda walking aimlessly after a few beers at a local brewery-we ran across this simple unassuming door with the name The Butterscotch Den written across it-it's kinda crazy because I had no idea where this bar was and for sure didn't know it was in Oak Park-I couldn't have been happier as this bar has been high on my must visit list for months. When we walked in I knew I was in the perfect spot-this bar has those low lights that all the bars in the 70s and 80s had-giving off a both romantic and mysterious vibe to it-I was in love with the place from that moment on. The music that day was awesome-I heard they have live music at times but at the time of my visit they did not-they were instead playing 90s and 2000s R&B and Hip Hop-it was wonderful-one banger after another-so yeah I was vibing. Our waitress couldn't have been cooler-she was as friendly as can be-suggesting drinks that were both on and off the menu-her and I were sharing tequila stories based on our shared affinity for the Fortaleza tequila they had in stock -which is super rare and it's how I judge every bar-whether or not they have Fortaleza tequila on hand and The Butterscotch Den had multiple bottles on hand. We ended up going with a few drinks that day. -Strawberry Negroni-($13.00)-This one blew my socks off-my favorite drink in the works is a Negroni but this bar makes a Strawberry version of it and let me tell ya-it's dynamite-10/10 rating -Old Fashioned-($12.00)-This is my go-to order at most bars because it's pretty reliable and most bars can make a decent one and I'd say they make a very solid one here-8.2/10 rating -Cucumber Gimlet with Tequila-($11.00)-This drink was made with lime-sweet vermouth and tequila-it was very refreshing and went down way too easy-rating 8.4/10 -Mezcal mystery drink-($12.00)-This was a drink the bartender made that after we declared our love for the smokiness of mezcal-I wouldn't be able to ask for it again unless I got the same waitress but if your a mezcal lover like I am-this drink was top of the line-smokiness intensity off the charts-9.1/10 rating So a little about the place that I picked up during my visit-I guess they serve food-I didn't know that but after my 2nd drink I looked back and saw this entire dining area with table side grills-so I guess the customers cook their own meats and such-pretty cool concept-my visit was strictly a drinking visit so I didn't partake but it looked pretty cool. I guess they are opened most days from 4p-12am and until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. They do not have a dedicated parking lot for this bar but they are located near 34th and Broadway-so unlimited street parking is available for those who drive here. In closing-I really really enjoyed my visit to The Butterscotch Den and I was pretty sure I had found my new favorite bar in Sacramento with a bar in the Ice Blocks but I am pretty sure that has changed and The Butterscotch Den is my new favorite bar in the greater Sacramento area-if you find yourself looking for a new spot to enjoy some adult beverages or maybe looking for a date night spot-don't hesitate to make your way over to The Butterscotch Den-the place is a true hidden gem. PS-They have a Disco Ball in their lounge area and a vintage non-working cigarette machine-the coolest I tell ya.

I came to visit my friends and we went to a brewery to catch up. My friend just bought a house and was moving, as well as having her birthday, so her ID was expired which we were not aware of. It happens. My friend was going to log into DMV just so she can show a valid ID the bartender but another woman working came up exclaiming they can not accept that and she will not get a drink. My friend did not argue about it and my other friend and I got our beers and sat down. We just wanted to spend time and catch up. My friend with the expired ID did not even take a sip of any drinks and respected the policy, the woman that we talked to earlier about the ids then proceeded to come up to us and say that we were sharing drinks, yelling and being very hostile. We were all confused because in no way, my friend even touched or drank any of the drinks. She insisted to call the cops. We then asked her if she had any evidence such as video footage and she said she did not have any access to that and she did not have footage. She said we were breaking the law and she will get the police involved for underage drinking. She was being extremely hostile. THANK YOU BY THE WAY SHE IS IN HER 30s BUT BESIDE THE POINT THEY REFUSED TO PULL UP THE FOOTAGE AND CORNERED US WHEN WE WERE DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. We even encouraged to call the police then she started back tracking. Their lead came in. We again, asked for the footage and he then, unrelated, said they are on the verge of closing rather than taking any form of accountability or apologizing for how his colleague was treating us. We asked for a refund and would leave, we were so uncomfortable. He then proceeded to say we did not pay for the drinks and I had to pull up my credit card statement to even prove it, which is absolutely ridiculous. I got our drinks and paid/ closed the tab before even sitting down. We asked to talk to a manager again. Mind you, we asked previously, and got the lead. The manager just asked if we were from the Bay and shook our hands instead of actually doing anything about the situation. I saw her hug the woman that was accusing after we were leaving which is absolutely ridiculous. Why would you encourage that type of behavior to your staff. Profiling in 2025 is insane. I feel bad for my friends. I feel extremely uncomfortable. Discriminating and accusing just because we are the only POCs in the room is so embarrassing. DO BETTER- NOT EVEN AS AN ESTABLISHMENT BUT JUST AS HUMAN BEINGS.
