3rd time is the charm! ... I can provide a long negative list of things about this particular location, and to be more specific about this woman who works there by the name of "Annmarie". First of all, this person does not have a name tag when the other staff does so I'm not quite sure if she gave me her real name, but third times a charm, and this was the third time that she has purposely expressed different behavior with my boyfriend and I versus other customers. She has proven once again to be a racist and a homophobic woman. The sign clearly says that there is no one allowed in the store under the age of 21 unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian of someone who is over 21 years old. I am 42 years old and clearly over the age to drink, but that's not the problem, my boyfriend had his ID and every time that we are there, she asks us both for our IDs, even when we are not both purchasing. Today I forgot my ID, but I did not find it to be a problem because my boyfriend was the one who was purchasing and not me. Her excuse was "if you touch alcohol I need two IDs", well clearly she needs to get her eyes checked because I did not touch alcohol, I was grabbing ginger, beer, which I'm assuming she knows that ginger beer does not have alcohol. We noticed once again that she treated the customer before us who just so happen to be Caucasian, very differently, very friendly and even talked about Dad jokes, as if they were best friends. The moment we came to the register she asked us both for our IDs. We visit this store many times and never have the other cashiers have given us to much problems, and have always been kind to us. This woman has proven once again to be a nasty, uneducated, racist, and a homophobic woman. This message goes out to the manager above her by the name of PURITY ( oh, because she claimed to be the manager, which I did not believe.) We asked a nice gentleman there for the name of the manager, his name is Jimmy, and he was very helpful and super sweet, but was also very protective of this Emery woman. Please train this woman to treat humans as one and train her to learn the rules to that same store, especially if she claims to be the manager. All the workers were extremely unprofessional and rude! I witnessed one of the workers embarrassing an another customer who was there alone trying to purchase alcohol but was loudly told he was kicked out for being in the store earlier with someone who didn't have their ID. He replied saying he was never told he was kicked out or couldn't come back and said he dropped off his friend hours ago. Everyone was staring and I felt it was all unnecessary treatment. As a person witnessing this I felt uncomfortable and didn't want to come back to buy anything ever again! I was shopping for a whisky for a friend's congratulatory contractor's exam passing party. A mouthful, for sure, just imagine the banner. After I was greeted one of the associates, named Purity, asked if I needed help. I didn't know what I wanted, or really anything about whiskies. Purity asked me questions and taught me about the different kinds of whiskies, while answering my many questions. She demonstrated a remarkable wealth of knowledge without making me feel dumb or burdensome, showing genuine appreciation and enthusiasm for spirits and my situation. She helped me decide on a Macallan 12Y as well as finding me a bag for it. She made this an easy and wonderful shopping experience, and I am very exited to try my purchase. To think I almost went to Total Wine & More! Even the banter between employees and other customers made the store feel welcoming and comfortable. In the future I will be returning to this store whenever I need to purchase spirits. It's my boyfriend's 21st birthday today and he asked me to come in with him to get his first bottle of wine because he was nervous (mind you I am 19 and don't drink alcohol due to my beliefs and being underage). Customer service is terrible, and I work in customer service. The two girls who were working were chatting up front the whole time, no one asked if we needed help finding anything (which he did need help because he was buying his first wine bottle). He picked a bottle of wine and we went up to the register. They asked for his ID and he got all excited to pull it out and use it for the first time, then they asked for my ID, I said that this is his bottle for his birthday and that I'm underage so I can't and don't drink. They refused him service and said if I'm in the store they can't sell it to him, he said that this bottle was strictly for him and that I'm just here for emotional support, and even asked if I left the store if they'd be able to sell it to him. They said no and shrugged their shoulders like they didn't even care. I left the store hoping he would be able to buy it. They didn't sell it to him. He came out so sad and it totally ruined his first experience being 21 and using his ID. They could've at least been nicer about the situation, but were very rude. I was getting drink supplies for the holidays with my sister in law and her best friend (who are both 29) I was talking to an old man who was a Vietnam veteran (he was wearing a veteran hat) and I'm a GWOT vet. A heavy set woman who I believe is the manager came up to me and interrupted the conversation I was having saying "You and your whole group look way too young to be in here. If a single one of you isn't 21 you are banned from the store" she was very rude and unprofessional about it. Then when we were at the register she was still being rude and unprofessional to us. I've been going here for literally 22 years. I bought some beer. While I was putting the beer in my car, a bottle slipped through some poorly designed packaging and broke in the car park. I actually went back in the store and asked for a broom and dust pan and cleaned it up. Then I asked for a replacement bottle and the one older white woman cashier wouldn't even acknowledge my inquiry. The very nice security guard advised me they would not replace my bottle of beer. Horrible customer service. I came in for an online order and noticed I ordered 2 and only had 1 in the bag so I asked the lady why I only had 1 when I ordered 2 and she had such a horrible attitude, she told me "it's obviously because they only had 1". I didn't know how the refund process worked if it was out of stock so I asked her and she said again, with major attitude that I just need to check my email. Sometimes a bit more expensive than my favorite Safeway club prices, but DEFINITELY does the liquor selection much better, and also at good prices! My early experiences were walking across the street to "Beverages and More" to get Peach Nehis after church (which usually meant sneaking away from Sunday school), but has since evolved into usual family holiday liquor runs. I was extra thankful for BevMo this year because of their selection of bitters. Safeway was out of the one kind that they typically sell, but I was helped out nicely by an employee to get the best kind for champagne cocktails. SITREP Bevmo may not have all the offerings that Total Wines & More does at their Arden location (which was a principle place for me to go check out some wine deals), but Bevmo succeeds at providing a LOT of wines, and a LOT of microbrews, and a LOT of Liquor, and for that I am thankful. SETUP - SAVINGS GALORE! By signing up as member of their rewards program, you get some dam substantial savings. Just using TONIGHTS outing as an example, when compared to Safeway or Total Wines prices, I saved $5 on the $18 bottle of Jim Beam "Red Stag" and another $3 on the Carolans Irish Cream. I came with my friend Alesha to BevMo at lunch one day because she had to pickup some wine to drink over the course of the week. Keyword: had. I usually go to a different place down the street but was happy to come to BevMo to look around and see if I was missing anything. Both her and I came to the conclusion that BevMo is good for wine, but not beer or hard alcohol. They have great 5 cent wine sales (which is pretty much a buy one get one free sale) so you end up getting some great wine at a great price. We find their beer and hard alcohol to be overpriced (by a few dollars or more) compared to their other local competitor. Their beer and hard alcohol prices are more in line with the prices you would find at a grocery store, or even sometimes more expensive. This being said, they do have a great selection so if in a pinch, or looking for a craft beer, they will do. They also carry a bunch of other misc. drinking related items so one could consider it a one stop shop. They have soda and mixers for the hard alcohol, cups for your beer, glasses for your wine and all the accessories to go with it. They also carry food to help with those drinking munchies and even greeting cards if you are getting something as a gift. The store is older on the outside, but nice and updated and clean on the inside. It's located in the same parking lot as Staples and not super visible from the street. Although this is an adult elixir store and I did find the majority of their well stocked spirits to be mostly competitively priced it was their refrigerated display of cheeses & a few deli meats that caught & held my attention; go figure..... The selections of gourmet cheeses is damn plentiful and their pricing for the same label cheese that say I've seen at Safeway & Raleys is lower here at BevMo! I loved this as well I love cheese and I love meats and salami in particular and they had sticks of Molinari salami priced available and affordable too. Convenience me thinks is what I like the best about this addition of this food area to the store as nothing goes better with some wine than some fine yummy cheese. I'm a boxed wine kind of girl & they do stock my Franzia Chardonnay and for the same price I would pay when I pick it up at regular price say at my usual places of purchase CVS & Walgreens however since this BevMo is so close to where we live the convenience factor is key to me. I encountered 3 different store employees there and all of them went out of their way to ensure that I was finding everything I was looking for so for me GREAT customer service. To the voluptuous lady manning the register for whose name escapes me as well I suck at names but can remember most peoples astrological sign you woman ROCK at customer service & not just for me but for the customers you helped in front of me some of which were regulars and your rapport with them was excellent, warm and welcoming. There's some type of point system here meaning you rack up points when you shop using their frequent shopper card so of course being the thrifty gem that I am the rock-star cashier noted above helped me sign up for my card which saved me $3 of a 12 pack of beer that I was picking up as a hostess gift for later that evening. One note: The store could use an overhaul in the area of displays and how the items for sale are organized and stocked. It appears when you first walk in or least it did to me that the store may have been new and or going out of business. Me thinks that by simply re-organizing whats currently there and stocking more items would drastically improve the vibe and look of the store. Also, become a member, it's free and you'll earn points towards coupons and discounts. Very friendly employees, never once have I entered and not been greeted or asked if I needed assistance. Also love their mini bottles of vodka, captain morgans, etc that they sale right in the middle of the store (purchase small bottles for $2-5 and they make great stocking stuffers, travels for camping trips, etc). This place always have great sales on your favorite alcoholic beverages. I would normally shop here before a party or if I am buying alcohol as a gift. The prices are normally cheaper or comparable to other stores. They also have the 5 cents wine specials occasionally where you buy one wine bottle and get the second bottle for 5 cents! The only reason for 2 stars is because they had the product I needed...BUT talk about incompetence in the workplace. Started online to find Kegs in stock and reservation/payment requirements. All good, Arden location was the only local store that had all the brands needed for MY NEPHEWS celebration of life. Best suggestion was to go to the store and recommended at least 4 days in advance despite delivery day they can deliver in 2 hours. Misleading but I rather be prepared. Spend almost an hour reserving what was needed and they tried to tell me they didn't have what online showed. After going into their cooler myself... I FOUND the product. Ok cool, paid cash - plus deposit and eventually got on my way AFTER asking for a receipt and told only needed to bring ID at pick up..(remember this part) Saturday pick up day comes and we get there. Told they can't release 2 larger kegs to me because they were "out of their booklet for ABC paperwork". They ran out the day before. Ok IM HOT! Really, not my problem- this should have been taken care of... I know I wasn't the ONLY one picking up on Saturday as the ones helping me Friday said they had a few other pick ups and asked me for a round about time of pick up. They tried calling their manager to no avail. I'm thinking this is the incompetence part because they don't have people on the WEEKENDS TO COVER WHEN MANAGEMENT IS Absent??? Wow! I'm thinking how am I going to tell my sister two of the biggest kegs won't be there. So ends up a young man not even helping us finds a tag book and ONE ABC tag. Another store was going to fax over a blank for us to fill out. Ends up- MY HUSBAND finds a second tag... as the girl was going to put it away. Ok why wouldn't you do this in the first place and especially with a paid transaction and no heads up phone call. After about 45 minutes we are on our way. And told we could return to any other BevMo. I was told by Ian their manager would call me and comp for our very stressful inconvenience. I did apologize for my words but they did as well and left feeling ok. Nope going right back to the same one to return empties just in case. Get there and let the guys know I was there to return. No offer for help- I asked the guy to come help us. We were parked just by the door. Then asked for my number and a few minutes later he asked for my card to put the deposit on. I paid cash and told him that. Then he had the audacity to ask for a receipt that I wasn't even going to be given to prove I paid cash. Hot again. They made no note of payment, method anything but yet I was almost not going to get the kegs because of their paperwork inadequacies!!! WOW! It took another co worker to say just do cash (sarcastically) and oh have a nice day. Told them to be sure and have that manager call me. And offered advice that they do better on their paperwork! If they couldn't release due to ABC then I'm sure ABC would love to see my blank log form and lack of notation of information. And they never cross referenced any of the ABC tags when I returned the kegs!!! Hahahahha. Wow! Oh- also I am familiar with ABC requirements and regulations so I'm not complaining against something I can't speak on. Needless to say I will not return to this location! I advise others to take caution and insure you check paperwork etc. and ask for a receipt... as I mentioned I would not have received of I didn't ask for. Admittedly BevMo has lost some of it's shine for me ever since Total Wine opened up down the street, but it's still a great one-stop booze shop. I've come to this BevMo to stock up for more parties than I can remember. It's a huge store with a huge selection of just about every beer, wine and liquor you could want. Wanda at the cashier was very rude. She rudely interrupted a conversation between another employee and my grandfather, then when reminding him to keep his mask up, continued to give us her opinion on how he moved it to talked to her, and her what she dose at work and so on. My grandfather works 12 hour shifts, he moves his mask to talk to you after you rudely interrupted the conversation he was having, and you scolded him but you were over 6 feet away.
