Went to big box hardware store. Had to wait for someone from that department to wait on me. (Carpet). He had someone come out one week later for measurements. The next day I received a bid. I went back to the store to change the type of carpet that I wanted. The person that was responsible for that dept was on his day off and the manager was on vacation. After 5 clerks tried to help me I was finally told that it would be best to come back on the day that the person that had first dealt with me would be back. I left and went to Better Flooring Outlet on hammer lane in Stockton. I was very pleased by the customer service . We picked the carpet and Sergio said that he would be out the next morning to take measurements. He called me two hours later with a bid that was $700. Cheaper than the big box store. When we bought our house 2 of the rooms still had carpeting even though the rest of the house had laminate flooring. We searched around but the brand and color we had was discontinued. We went to a few different flooring stores trying to match the floor as close as possible. When we arrived at Better Flooring Outlet, Sergio (the owner) was sitting behind the desk. He stood up and walked around the desk to greet us. This is old school customer service and I can not tell you how much that small gesture meant to us. He showed us what he had available and gave us a price quote. Since we were not matching exactly, we did want to talk about it and make sure we made he right decision. We had lunch and decided to go back to Better Flooring and purhcase what Sergio had shown us. When we came back (about 2 hours later), Sergio said, I found a better match online for you. So after we left he looked and found us another option without even knowing if we were going to come back. Again this is great customer service. We ordered the product. I feel based on what we were quoted at other flooring stores, Sergio's prices were very competitive. This was on a Sunday and the product arrived on Thursday, so I went to pick it up. You drive around to the back and they loaded up my car for me. Everyone that we talked with at Better Flooring was very nice and professional. They have a lot of different items available in store and many other options available to order, you just have to ask. We will be ordering more for when we have to do the second bedroom. My husband and I love our long haired German shepherds and they live inside, but spend a lot of time outside. Our carpet was old and I had enough of trying to keep it clean from fur, dust, and dirt. We decided to remove the carpet and go for wood floors. As soon as I entered the Better Flooring Outlet store, I was greeted and they seemed happy to see me. I mention that because another store didn't even acknowledge me after I stood around for 5 minutes and I just walked out. Sergio helped us pick out laminate that was pet friendly. Mario and his crew spent 3 and a half days with the installation. The floors had to be leveled before actual installation so that added to the time. I love my new floors. They look beautiful and installation was perfect. Maintenance is so much easier and the house smells fresher without carpet. We did replace the 24 y/o kitchen vinyl and it looks awesome too. I was looking for some vinyl sheet flooring for a small project and stopped in here the other day. They have two walls of sheet flooring with around 12-14 rolls on each wall and the prices were reasonable. I was having difficulty finding anything close to what I was looking for but the employee Luis advised me there were also a few rolls on the side. He was helpful and didn't give off a "salesman" vibe which was nice. I still wasn't able to find anything but my wife spotted what looked like a discarded roll on the floor with some boot marks on it in a color that was close enough and asked Luis about it. He said it was a scrap but available and it would be $1.11 per square foot. After some consideration, we asked for a sheet to be cut for us and there was barely enough but it was what we needed and the price was decent. Luis cut the sheet, rolled it and carried it out and helped us put it in the car. If I need vinyl again I would go here. read more

While I don't particularly enjoy the process doing the ground work by going to different flooring companies I learn a lot and different aspects from each business. My project was to remove the carpet and replace with hardwood flooring throughout the upstairs (4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, walk-in closet and loft) and the stairs (17 steps) totaling about 1700 sq feet. The project and cost was significant and I especially wanted to understand and be certain of the different types of flooring and installation processes. Learning about the different types of flooring and features was interesting and choosing the color was more of a burden than I originally expected. I'm naturally drawn to the darker wood and learned that the lighter color is the current trend for home builders (women prefer lighter colors as it reflects less dirt/dust). I really liked the gray flooring and selected a color in the gray family that blended well with the different colors/types of furniture in the various rooms. I also selected the water resistant/protection flooring, an important feature due to having kids and pets and flooring that goes into the bathroom areas (not the toilet areas which have tile). All things considered, I went with Better Flooring specifically due to the customer service I received from Dave & Sergio. Dave especially went above and beyond in understanding the extent of the project (bedrooms, bathrooms, stairs, kids, dogs, home value, etc) and the specific type of flooring. He wasn't the salesman pushing a sale but a person taking a genuine interest in helping me make the best decision for my home. The wrong color or type of tile could cost me significantly down the line so the cheapest tile or best value were not the primary considerations - and Dave helped me understand every aspect. One aspect I really appreciated was Dave's advice on the padding. One annoying factor of my home is when I'm walking upstairs in the master bedroom, it sounds hollow and downstairs it sounds like your stomping on the floor. The specific padding Dave recommended has eliminated that issue. Dave also worked with me on the pricing due to the size of the project and various factors. Stairs are particularly costly and there are different aspects to learn and take under consideration and Dave had the patience and took the time and initiative to ensure I understood the choices before making a decision - and every recommendation Dave made turned out to be the better choice. Sergio was very helpful in recommending an installer. Each flooring company has their own recommended installer who is not an employee or representative of the company but an independent contractor. As a consumer, we can go with any installer we prefer even if we buy the supplies from the particular business. I read prior complaints about installers but the company holds no responsibilities or legal liabilities over who installs the flooring - they just make recommendations on who to use if you don't have anyone. I originally wanted to go with another installer but ultimately went with the installer Sergio recommended and very pleased with the work and the results. He was able to complete the project in 5 days as scheduled and the flooring looks fabulous. Taking under consideration that they pulled up the carpet and removed it from the premises alone was a major task. In addition to moving the furniture from each room to pull up the carpet and do the flooring. The stairs took some time and now understand the complexity and craftsmanship that go along with the stairs especially when the stairs have different dimensions/measurements. Overall, I'm completely satisfied with the care and consideration I received from Better Flooring. I'm a yelp enthusiast and when I have complaints, I go to yelp and when a company goes above and beyond, I write a review so if someone is going through a similar experience, I'm hoping my review is helpful. As I read reviews as a consideration of making a decision, it's important to understand that Bob's Flooring was sold and is now run by new management under Better Flooring....so that was important for me in taking under consideration some of the negative reviews I read under the prior company. I take a personal sense of ownership when I give a recommendation and I absolutely and completely recommend Better Flooring. With a project of my size and complexity, along with ordering supplies and choosing an installer, there are any number of things that could have went wrong and everything went as planned and expected. As a result, I have great flooring at a good price and it looks incredible. The rooms look bigger, brighter, it feels cooler inside (its 100 degrees today) and I feel like I breathe easier removing the carpet and having the flooring. We had 2 houses where we used Sergio's carpet and his brother to lay our flooring. The carpet has been fine and we haven't seen any issues YET. Mario (his contracted brother) has not returned phone calls nor texts regarding a HUGE project he did with our wood floors. The floors were done beginning of March (less than 90 days ago) and this is what it looks like. The floor is lifting and bubbling all throughout the living room. $3200 and this is the quality of work you get when dealing with Mario/Sergio. It's unfortunate by the better business will be called. A lawsuit will have to be filed. And the licensing board for contractors will have to be contacted. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mario doesn't have a license to lay floors. It's disappointing because ALL i want is the floor to look good. SERGIO - YOUR BROTHER IS NOT A LICENSED Floor contractor by the state of California! The very fact that YOU refer him is WRONG! Sergio is the guy that helped us pick out our carpet, we only did carpet on our stairs.. it was nice and supposedly the best and cheaper than Home Depot, so we went with these guys. They subcontract to someone to install, um, okay.. that's fine, but.. 2 weeks later my carpet was coming undone from the top of the stairs where it should be connected. It was shredding and just not worth the price..Tried to call Big Bobs and Sergio ( who seemed of so nice at the time) was sooo rude. Apparently they are not responsible for any issues with installation so we had to call the installer. Finally got ahold of him and he showed up 4 days later un announced!! Wth!!! I'm not from the area, but I have a rental property in Stockton. I didn't know who to call for flooring so I just Yelped a flooring place and crossed my fingers. Well, the verdict is good. I went into Big Bob's and got carpet for .68 sq foot. The house is about 1800 square feet with most of it covered with carpet minus the kitchen and bathrooms, and with padding, I think the total came out to only $1,500 or so. They had some contractors come out and got the job done in 1.5 days. OMG, the work was amazing. They did a great job and were super quick. So, to replace all of the carpet int he house plus the flooring in the bathroom only came out to $2,500. I am moving in to a new office space in San Jose and am going to use them again. I was just planning to purchase flooring from this place when I was in Stockton, but I loved the whole experience so much I'm going to hire the same contractors and buy all my flooring from Big Bob's again! read more

This place is a rip off!! So many problems from the man not accurately measuring my home & running out of flooring the day of installation. Charging me more at installation to remove old flooring (should of been told up front) to the men working bringing a child to not just "help" but do a major part of the 12 hour work in one day made me feel uncomfortable. To being told check would be ok but workers demanding cash only on a weekend. To the sweet little old lady who's the owner never returning my calls and saying "I don't do computers & can't find your order" all 12 times I called and went in the try to fix my carpet. So dont waste your time. This is such a low budget place just a few dollars less then any name brand company that has good reviews and warranty's. read more

Better Floors needs to train their employees to learn the difference between moisture protection floors versus non moisture protection floors. Since an employee didn't read the back of the product I purchased I bought non moisture protection floors and I had to spend additional money for moisture for my bathrooms. As a result, I have to worry about spills and floor buckles on my floors because a salesperson didn't read the information provided on the back of each product. So, better floors keep the $25 and use it to better train your employees. They need to better help customers with the products you sale. If you are reading this, you might want to find a more reliable flooring company to meet your needs. If I could have given better floors zero floors I would have. read more

I used Big Bob's to carpet a rental home. Compared to another major carpet retailer their price was very good. I was able to purchase the carpet on Saturday and get it installed on Sunday and it looks great. I also had some floor damage that the installer, Arnold, was able to fix for me and he did an excellent job. The customer service I received from Sergio and Arnold was great. The reason for 1 star is completely based on post customer service. The purchasing of our flooring was easy and at a pretty fair price, however the instalation was atrocious. It was installed by a subcontractor that Big Bob's sent to do the job. The subcontractor (Mario), subcontracted the job to a group of pot smoking laborers. They did not have the equipment to complete the job, which my husband had to rent equipment from Home Depot in order for the job to be completed. There was problems with the toilet post install, I contacted Big Bob's, they told me to contact the installer, contacted the installer (Mario), his response was, "I under bid the job and will not be fixing anything, if you have a problem, call a plumber", Big Bob's sent out a son of an employee to fix the problem. It's 2 months later and there are extreme high and low places, as if the mortar from the removed tile was left in some places, contacted Big Bob's to let them know, spoke with Sergio to let him know that I am concerned, he told me "contact the installer, we only sell the flooring materials" I would never recommend a purchase through Big Bob's. The install and follow up is critical to customer service, and that is most definitely deserving of a 1 star. read more

First my Pop's goes into Big Bobs and they try and sell him on their cheapest quality of carpet saying they were giving him this huge discount. (took the remnants of that carpet to 5 different carpet stores, all said its their 0.99 cent carpet!) I go back with my pop's to look for better quality, they refused to lets us order any carpet staying it would be too costly!? Then we finally find something in stock there...we needed 55feet, their tag stated it was 60feet....pay for it they roll it out and its 3 feet too short!!!!! No sorry, No what can we do to make this right....NOTHING but oh we have this other carpet but it would be an extra $500 dollars than you already paid!? What? Um no, then the owner come's up to me while I am talking to my pop's about going somewhere else and says "is it for you?" I say no, its for my Father...she says "That's what I thought"! For Real Great customer service, good job cuz you just lost this sell! Called yesterday to ask gor a quote for hardwood refinishing.. The old lady that answered the phone started explaining that the glue was expensive and went on.. I explaind i was only looking for a quote on "refinishing my hardwood flooring". She asked me to hold and transferred me to someone else.. We made appointment for next day at 11am.. Asked a relative to attend appointment since i live out of state and this is my rental home.. They never showed up.. So i call at 11:15 and the gentelman who answered advised they marked the calendar wrong.and could be there in 10 minutes.. He arrives to tell me they dont refinish hardwood and suggested i just put laminate over it.. Horrible experience , waste of time, clueless !! read more

They bent over backwards to get me excellent prices on tile, carpet, padding and more! They are down to earth and very easy to work with. The staff were very helpful and the prices very affordable!! Georgia spent a great deal of time with me, trying to find the "perfect floor", given my financial limitations and she was terrific! I had been relocated three times in 18 months due to being a victim of the Paradise fire, with no compensation from PGE. They gave me wonderful service, and the install team, Alfredo and Soloma were efficient and very hard working. They showed up on time, and worked without breaks for 9 hours, except for a brief lunch. They spent hours doing the prep and the final results were better than I ever expected! They had to remove a damaged floor from previous tenants and their large dogs who had relieved themselves on the previous peel and stick flooring. I have nothing to give but the highest praise to Sergio and his crew!!! I now have a solid vinyl floor of excellent quality with no odor, done by experts. Hurrah for this family business! My fiance and I searched all of the usual businesses (including that one with the Orange apron) in search of wood flooring for our living room and hallway. It appeared that all of the flooring we saw was pretty standard so we basically defaulted to "who has the best price". We eventually found Big Bobs Flooring on E. Hammer Lane in Stockton. We were helped by "Sergio" who turned out to be fantastic. He not only took the time to educate us in the difference between types of wood / laminate flooring he also allowed us to take home and return several floor samples (and not those little square blocks) of the types and colors of flooring we preferred. In the end not only did Big Bob's Flooring have the exact flooring we needed, we were able to purchase professional grade flooring (with a 25 yr. guarantee) cheaper than the medium grade flooring at all of the other business (again including the one with the Orange apron, lol). I also want to say that "all" of the staff at Big Bob's Flooring treated my fiance and myself like VIP's and we were so pleased with their service and their pricing that we decided to start replacing the rest of the carpeting in our home. We have already replaced the carpeting in the master bedroom and our grandsons bedroom with additional plans to finish the rest of the house by the end of the year. I tried to contact many people to help to jump start my car, but all were outside of my reach. Sergio and Morales were completely strangers to me. They drove their company car pass by my house. The store itself is nice and good pricing. However, the person (Daniel) they hire to install the tiles is terrible! He was very unprofessional. They left a huge mess in my house every day that they came. He left twice each day to go work on someone else's house! When he would leave to go "quote" someone else's house, he would be gone for 1-2 hours. He would end up staying until 8 pm at night because he messed around all day. He never once showed up on time. He would tell me to be ready at 7:30 am and arrive at 8:30-9! It was three days (200 square feet of tile) of 12 hour days .... And him leaving randomly. It gets worse- I had to tell him to take the dishwasher out and tile underneath, when he put y he dishwasher back in he said it might leak! My dishwasher was perfectly fine before he touched it, and I told him that! He quickly said it should be fine. I woke this morning to a puddles of water underneath my sink! I know have cabinets that are damaged and had to call a plumber out to fix the leak! read more
