I highly recommend the professionals at Santiago's Landscape Services. My parents' house sits on…read more1/3 acre with many trees, and the yard had been let go quite badly for decades. After getting a few quotes for some initial tree work, I hired Santiago and his team to remove a dangerous limb over the garage and balance the oak tree that threatened the roof. They got the work done promptly and for a fair price, and, most importantly, they did it right. We were so impressed, that I called them back for a quote on a bigger project. There were several trees that needed shaping to reduce sail and let more light in, some that needed to come out entirely, stumps to be ground out, massive yard cleanup, and a pathway toward formal landscaping. Speaking with Santiago, I told him our budget, and he was able to craft a plan that prioritized the critical work while preparing the way to restore the yard with water-efficient landscaping. Clearing away at least 20 years of wild growth took several days, and a large team, but they got it done on time and absolutely perfect. One of the team was an amazing arborist who knows how to make a neglected tree healthy, balanced, and beautiful again. Every team member knew the plants they were working with. The 80 year old elm now looks fantastic, the 65 year old magnolia is putting out flowers again, the ancient oaks now have the proper canopy, and the fruit trees are putting out new shoots. The water-hungry weeds have been removed, and the yard graded and prepared. The next step will be to install drip irrigation and a blend of wildflowers and succulents to define the paths and entertainment portions of the yard, and after seeing the other projects Santiago has handled, we will stick with him. Couldn't be happier with the progress! Give him a call. You'll be glad you did!

I contacted Santiago's as part of my search. I was impressed with the plan and recommendation they set forward. They worked fast and were very clean given the big project I had. The demo looked like it was hell and they made it look easy. I now enjoy a nice clean yard with automated sprinklers I control via my phone. I love the look my San Agustin grass they installed. They ran all the sprinklers system as well and cleaned up the yard. I would definitely recommend Santiago's they had the best pricing and were promptly available.

From the beginning, Foster was responsive, professional, and incredibly patient. He took the time to thoroughly evaluate our property, answered every question we had, and provided a detailed plan that gave us complete confidence in moving forward. Once the project began, Julio and his crew were exceptional. Julio was on site every day, kept us informed throughout the process, and his attention to detail was second to none. Early in the project, he even identified a previously unknown leak on our property that could have easily gone unnoticed and made sure it was addressed. What stood out most was the level of care the entire team put into their work. They weren't just completing a project. They were making sure it was done correctly and built to protect our home for years to come. Thank you to Shanese, Foster, Julio, and the entire team at Professional Drainage Experts. We couldn't be happier with the results and would recommend them without hesitation.

My only regret is that work scheduling was somewhat erratic and better coordination/communication would have expedited job completion considerably.

J Harold Mitchell Landscape Supply is easily the best store in LA county for irrigation parts. It's…read morea wholesaler that also sells to the public, which means better products that are intended to hold up in commercial use. Not Big Box store thin plastic crap, but quality parts that last. Three locations: Cypress, San Gabriel and my favorite, Altadena. They stock the best brands in the landscape trade...Rainbird, Hunter, Toro, Netafim, etc. The store has everything possible for irrigation installation & repair, plus kickass hand tools for serious garden work, a good variety of beautiful, quality landscape lighting, plus benderboard, fertilizers, potting soil, bagged mulch and fountain pumps and more. The retail prices are good, cheaper than local hardware stores. Plus the parts will last so you won't be replacing them soon and using up all your time, money & resources. The store is in a smallish, white industrial building, kind of hidden, on Woodbury & Windsor in Altadena. It's clean, organized, well-lit and doesn't smell all rubbery or dieselly like other landscape stores. If you have a vague grasp of how to approach your irrigation issues this is a fantastic resource. Check in at the front counter for quick assistance or wander if you want to see the latest drip irrigation parts. Some stuff is behind the counter, so not completely self-serve, which is a really great old-school touch. The guys will help you troubleshoot & will help you find the parts you need. They offer occassional bi-lingual free instruction classes in irrigation controller clocks, lighting installation and it's not just product reps selling their brand but actual trouble shooting & instruction. This is a real service which homeowners & DIYers should get on! If you want to geek out with manufacturers catalogues, ask for a complimentary copy. Kinda like reading the tool section of the ginormous old Sears catalogue (yeah, that was a thing kids did in the 60s). The manufacturers provide these catalogues to wholesalers and they are great to share with clients or use as your own textbook. So ask for some! I love this store. The guys who work here are so smart & well-trained. They know their stuff & can help you save water & save time. Thanks for being here, J Harold Mitchell Landscape Supply!

Buyer beware!! If…read moreyou are not a contractor do not go here unless you are prepared to pay between 2 to 4 times over what you would pay at Home Depot or any other hardware store that is interested in earning your business. I purchased 20 wire nuts and 20 feet of outdoor lighting wire and the total cost was $61.98. At Home Depot the same materials would have cost $23. If that wasn't bad enough, the staff was unfriendly and unhelpful and when I checked the receipt at home, they had charged me for 10 ga wire instead of the cheaper 16 ga wire that I received. If you are not a contractor, stay far away from this place.

I really appreciated how transparent they were the whole way through--no hidden surprises, just honest communication. The work was done in a timely manner, and my yard looks better than it ever has. I strongly recommend staying far away from this unlicensed landscaping company…read more Before hiring, make sure to ask whether Hailey has a valid contractor's license. Toward the end of our project, we discovered that she does not, which raised serious concerns about the quality and legality of the work performed. Our experience with Happy Days Landscaping has been extremely disappointing. We initially left a positive review, but after ongoing issues, we had no choice but to retract it. She recommended decomposed granite (DG) for our front yard. We expressed concern about our front yards steep slope and our worries about the DG weathering away during rain fall. Hailey assured us it would not be a problem since she would be compacting the decomposed granite and she said they add a sealant to the material to make "like concrete"--but that proved to be incorrect. After the first rainfall, the decomposed granite began washing away. She attempted to fix the issue by applying the sealant and compacting the DG which she was supposed to apply initially, claiming it would solve the problem. The DG continues to erode to this day. Communication was horrible and accountability was nonexistent. We had to repeatedly chase her down for responses, and it was during this time that we learned she was not licensed. Only after confronting her about this, she finally started returning our calls and offered to address some of the problems. Unfortunately, the issues have only worsened. As the DG continues to wash away with each rainfall, the irrigation system she installed--made with cheap plastic hoses--has become exposed and damaged from the sun. There are now ruptures everywhere in the system making it useless and as a result, our plants are dying. We have started hand watering to attempt to save the plants. Overall, this has been a costly and frustrating experience, and I would strongly caution others to be thorough and do their due diligence before considering this company.

Cesar is the real deal…read more What started as a straightforward quick fix turned into a 3+ odyssey into why my drip irrigation wasn't working. Cesar and his team managed to find and fix everything wrong with the system: - Rewired my entire Rachio controller. The original installers had left behind what can only be described as a rat's nest of wiring. Caesar sorted it into something clean and actually traceable. - Replaced a failing valve that had been quietly wasting water, sputtering instead of shutting off properly. - Ran an entirely new line under the house to restore power to the back valve, since the old wire was not only broken but buried three feet down under turf and tarp aka basically unreachable for any future repair. He's a genuine jack of all trades and what impressed me most was that he didn't stop at the easy fix. He treated the whole system like it needed to actually work long-term vs. limping along until the next breakdown. Thanks to his work, if anything goes wrong down the line, it'll actually be possible to find and fix it - which, after seeing how the system was originally installed, feels like a minor miracle. Highly recommend Caesar for anyone whose irrigation system was "installed" rather than engineered. Worth every minute of that 3-hour odyssey.
