I needed to get my nails done when I was in town, and I am glad that I found Best Nails! Located in a small strip plaza off of Waukegan, this nail salon was just what I needed! I brought my mom here as well, and we both decided to get pedicures. My nail tech was Ms. Mary, and she was super detail-oriented, in addition to being super sweet! She was very attentive in regards to cutting, shaping, getting my cuticles in-check, and painting each nail meticulously well. The foot and the leg massages were very relaxing and invigorating! You can make appointments ahead of time, but they also accept walk-ins. I've been to this salon quite a few times, I would say five. It's close to my work and they offer great prices. They prefer not to take credit/debit cards (the transaction fee is pretty expensive which I understand) so I normally pay via Zelle directly to the owner Tina. The first time I came here I was impressed by the service and how carefully Tina shaped and filed my nails. Even using the small drill bit tool around the cuticles to make sure there wasn't any dead skin and the application appeared natural. I came back two weeks later for a mani and I was satisfied, but not impressed. Third time, Tina (the only nail tech licensed for acrylic) was out and when I spoke to her she said her associate would be able to do a gel polish over the top of the acrylic after it was filed down and it would look great. It did not. I spent over an hour getting a mani and pedi and worked up the courage to finally tell them I was unhappy with the application of the gel polish, which should've been clear because it looked awful. Just awful. Bubbled and uneven and she had painted over my cuticles. They removed it with the drill bit and even though Tina was out of the salon due to personal reasons I will not disclose she FaceTimed her daughter and offered to come in to redo my nails. I did not have the time as it was closing in on 6:30 and I had been there for 1 1/2 hours and had dinner plans that same night. So I left with naked hands and a half decent pedicure. I say half decent because the nail tech (same older woman that did my gel manicure) did not scrub the bottoms of my feet and I think she felt embarrassed about the nail situation so she was trying to rush to get me out of there. I had a manicure in between here that was okay, nothing to report. But this last time really upset me. I called ahead as I normally do and told her what I wanted and scheduled a time. Showed up on time and she immediately started on my nails. When removing poly gel Tina was berating me on my naturally already extremely thin nails and it was uncomfortable. I'm sorry I get acrylics to make up for the thinness which in turn makes them more thin, a catch 22. Next time please be gentle and offer a solution for your client. Next, a young woman comes in for a pedicure. She was apparently a few minutes late as she had called ahead about 15 minutes prior saying she would be there in ten and upon arrival the owner said "you told me ten minutes." Then proceeded to mutter under her breath about the woman who had just arrived in front of me. She finished up the application of my acrylic and filed my shape, no filing of the top or cuticle to ensure an even nail shape and sent me over to the pedi chair. This pedicure was actually pretty nice. A good massage and I felt like he did a good job with the bottoms of my feet. Shaped my nails nicely and applied the polish evenly. Tina came over to finish my hands and only ran a buffer over each nail twice. Front and back. Then when they still had the dust on them she applied the polish. I had to ask her to go back to fully coat some nails and reach the sides. My cuticles looked terrible and the shaping is dismal. Uneven surfaces and on my right hand you can see the middle finger has an indentation on the side. It felt very rushed and I walked out feeling disappointed because I'm now on the search for another nail tech since the overall attitude towards customers here is indifference, and at times, even annoyance. I came to Best Nails twice for no chip manicure. First time was fine, second time was the worst. First off, the lady that took my no chip off used her own nails to scrape off the old polish! Then she didn't even clean my nails before putting the new polish on. I've had manicures at other places before and they use cuticle remover to remove my cuticles, and they just make sure my nails are clean and smooth before applying polish. She didn't even let me wash my hands after removing the old polish, so I had a bunch of residue left on my hand. Now I have a bunch of bumps under the nail polish. Really disappointed in this place. She wasn't even busy. She was even just showing me videos on her phone instead of focusing on my nails. I needed a new local nail place and thanks to YELP I found one! I called to make an appointment and Tina (the owner) scheduled me for a no-chip manicure and pedicure. I walked in and was greeted with smiles. They were super busy but Tina still acknowledged me and asked me to pick a nail polish. There's a huge selection of both OPI and Essie polishes. The lady who did my pedicure was very meticulous and did a fantastic job. A different lady did my no-chip manicure and she was as sweet as pie. I went in for a no chip manicure & Pedicure. I tried it because close to home but did not plan on coming back. The no chip manicure was done pretty sloppy where the base is uneven and now showing more that they're growing. One Nail started to chip within a few days and now a few more are chipping within just under two weeks. My no chip manicures normally last to me a good three weeks and I get them redone because they grow out, not because they chip. They were also more expensive as I paid $60 plus tip, more so than other salons in the area. I wanted to give it a try but will not be returning unfortunately. read more

I've been going to Tina for 5 years on and off. She is someone I'd consider an old friend at this point. She has amazing customer service and genuinely cares about her clients. The only thing is she tends to overbook and rush through clients manicures to get them completed. My only advice is for them to take their time, be more organized, and to use a new file every time they do someone's nails. It's kinda gross when they re-use old files. I was treating myself for my first Mother's Day and the was the most half .. mani I have ever received! She quickly filed my nails while I was getting a pedi and didn't even ensure that they were the same length. They were rough around the edges when she slapped on the nail polish. The prices have always been great, and I've always had great service. Out of all the salons she's been at, this one is by far the nicest. It's clean, the décor is nice and relaxing. Her business partner also does hair which is a plus since I can get my nails done and get a haircut if I want. They always try to accommodate everyone, so it's always a good idea to phone ahead or make an appointment, even though they do take walk ins.
