I am a longtime customer of Vivian's Nails. I just enjoy the service and atmosphere at the nail salon. I was able to get my mani/pedi in just before the holidays after a busy short week of work. I normally don't ever make a review but this service with SALLY was the absolute worst!I've never met anyone so rude in my life. I came in to get got a manicure just to give my nails a break from no-chip. When I came in, the manager was very attentive and was polite about what I wanted. I simply said I wanted a manicure and I started picking out colors that was by the register. After, there was no communication to which woman was going to do my nails. Sally had asked me to pay upfront after filing my nails. I gave her the standard 18% tip- which was fine. The entire time it only took 8-10 mins; She was responding to her text messages , was too much in rush, doing such a sloppy job, and on top of that didn't even file my nails evenly. When she was done , she stood up without saying anything and just went in the back to watch on her phone. After waiting for my nails to dry, I stood up and said thank you. The last 2 times I have tried to give them a chance I have been disappointed. My first experience here back in 2014 before their remodel was not good. I figured after the remodel, maybe some things have changed. Their work is terrible. I went in for a pedi and the polish was old and my pedi did not come out like it usually does. I then took my daughter for a French manicure, and it's like rocket science explaining to them not to make the line super thick. I was then charged $35 and another amount showed up on my statement. The customer service here is a joke. The regulars keep them in business because I cannot see how any new clients are attracted here. I tried to check out a new nail salon spot to do last minute gel fill-in appointment today and unfortunately it was not a clean job.. instead cut the time short and the technicians attempt to do a fast nail service. There were NO last minute steps for polishing on top gel coat (after I even asked the technician if he will put on top coat) and/or nail wipe to clean off any extra residue. NONE. Then when you acknowledge that the given time passed two times, you hear "you can go and comeback later if you like". No! I regretfully decided to try a new nail salon that my friend goes to. Big mistake. First impression walking in here: the overpowering smell of nail polish chemicals. No wonder you see the employees wearing masks. The place was unwelcoming and the lady doing my nails didn't even say a word or give a smile. I had a no chip manicure done and the lady seemed rushed, and the hand massage (which is my favorite part about getting my nails done) was short and pathetic. Not to sound repetitive, but I would also give this place one star if Yelp permitted. After thirty loyal years to her nail technician, my mother tried Vivian's Nails for a dip manicure, as her normal manicurist does not yet perform this service. After one manicure she encouraged me to make an appointment with Michael for my first dip manicure, which I promptly did. I arrived at 4:20 for my 4:30 appointment, and Michael did not take me until about 4:35. The only reason I mention the time is that about ten minutes into my manicure he began complaining that he had another appointment scheduled for 5pm, and that my nails were taking a long time. I assumed that manicurists who remove and do no chip/gel are aware that the time gained in drying the nails is taken up for by the time it takes to remove the polish...I guess Michael never received that memo. Overall, he was rude to me throughout the manicure and jerked my hands/arms around during the process with eye rolls. When his 5pm appointment arrived he pulled her by the hand over to me, shoved her hand in my face and told me that her manicure was a dip that had lasted for three weeks, so I should know that my manicure will last. Well, it's been one week and guess what! The polish on two of my nails has already popped off completely! Yup. Great job, Michael! I was getting ready for leave for another business trip and thought I need to have a decent mani-pedi before I get on that plane. I walked in about 30 minutes to closing time. Yea, I know, I'm a horrible person. It wasn't my fault. I searched on Yelp for a location that I could visit whilst in Skokie. Some place showed up but I couldn't find it and instead, as I was driving around, I noticed Vivian's from the road so I pulled in. They took me right away even though every chair seemed full with someone getting a service. Ernie started on my pedicure and since they were so closed to closing, Lan started on the manicure. I used to live in Skokie and went upon Vivians Nails late last year and wish I went there sooner! I have NEVER had a bad experience, they make my nails perfect every time and the ONLY place that has never been rough with my hands when it comes to acrylic. Instead of filing harshly to get the shape I want they simply cut the acrylic nails with the sides of regular clippers, so it's not sensitive to my hands. Ever since I moved to the city, I drive 30-40 min to this salon because of their prices, cleanliness, color options, timing and the results. They have dip powders, gel, and regular colors EVERYWHERE. P.S I have been to nail salons that take 2 hours for acrylics! I have always left this salon under an 1hr before and up to 1 1/12 when I want something more. I wish I got a picture of my dipped nails, which while I am typing this I am on my way to them now :))) By the way I have had almost every nail tech in the salon and they have all done a great job. I am SO picky with my nails especially the shape (almost tapered square but NOT coffin) but they do it right every time. I really like Brenda she's very talented and really takes the time to shape your nails the way you want it and make them not too thick but not too thin. They do dip here for $40 and gel no chip for $35 and pedicure for $25. The chairs are very comfortable and massage some places other chairs miss. Everybody is very nice! Why is there so many bad reviews? I'm not sure if it's just complainers doing their usual complaining, but I had nothing to complain about. I called in advance to see if I can walk in and they were happy to take me. I grew up in the area and always passed by Vivian's, so I finally decided to try some no chip mani and regular pedi. I'll be honest, I don't get my nails done a lot because I like doing it myself at home to save money, but I think I'll be a regular customer because of Lisa. Lisa did my nails she was very nice and sweet. If there was anything that was an extra cost, she made sure to get my consent first which is very important to be translucent about those things. Something that was very important to me as well, is that I have a small twitch in my toes on my left foot. This can make it frustrating for the nail tech, Lisa was very patient and understood my condition. Overall, I was happy with the results. Another plus, was that they had Apple Pay!! This makes it SO much easier to pay at the end so I don't have to dig through my purse and risk ruining my hands, or make the nail tech uncomfortable when I ask them to go through my things. I have been there several times. Yesterday I had made an appointment as I had a wedding that evening. It became clear when I arrived that everyone was busy and no one was going to honor my appointment. I said I needed to leave and would come back when they would take me. I made an appointment for 3 hours later. I called in advance to make sure they were running on time. I was told I would need to wait as they do not take appointments on Sundays. What? You made 2 appointments with me and never planned to honor any of them? The owner is rude and disrespectful of anyone' s time. I went into the salon with the intention of getting oval shaped nails, the lady that was doing my nails started doing them & then after the fact that she did them she said that there is going to be an up charge. I didn't mind that because that's what I wanted. But being a customer, it would have made sense to inform me prior. She then continued to do my nails, I stated that I wanted them thin which she didn't listen and made them bulky. All the nails were different shaped. I have never understood the "getting your nails done" excitement because I have never had a wonderful experience like today at Vivians Nails. Vivian's Nails elevated my pedicure session into a health and wellness spa treatment. I have runners feet, so they were surely abused and neglected. The technician soaked them, srubbed them, cleaned them, massaged them, and made them look so pretty and feel so healthy. In the process, she managed to relaxed them, and made them feel like marathon ready again. They keep me coming back! This place is not near my home at all. However, they are close to my mom and grandma's house and I always make sure to come here when I can. I am one who is always getting hangnails and they do a great job with trimming the excess skin and cleaning cuticles. I've been to all of the technicians and I feel that Long and Chi are the ones I prefer the most due to their meticulous work. However I was never displeased with any of the technicians. Been coming here for years with no complaints. The staff is always polite and always do a great job. Some of the staff are soft spoken and hard to understand at first, but we're able to get over that not too long later. The newly renovated space is large, clean, bright, fresh and modern. Furniture is comfy. It does not smell like a nail salon either. Instead of you picking your color, they give you the sample palette to choose from and they grab the color for you. When you make an appointment, the owner who usually answers says they are available, doesn't ask your name and 9 times out of 10 they don't actually have time for you and you end up waiting, which if you are on a tight schedule is pretty inconsiderate. I've had to leave several times because they didn't actually have time for me when they didn't have time. 2. There is always sports or news on the t.v and while I don't want to speak for everyone, the salon full of women would probably love to watch something else.
