Very friendly, helpful, and competent service. I brought in four old extinguishers to recharge. Two could not be recharged and I was given a clear explanation why. The other two, one big and one small, were ready the next day. I was given a loaner while those two were being serviced. Parking is difficult in the area due to the big medical building across the street. dropped my fire extinguisher at shop to service/recharge. Never called as the said they would to say when it was ready. I called them long after the fact suddenly realizing the situation. Said they would look into it and call me back the next day. Has now been over a week later. Also woman denies having used claim checks like the one they gave me when i dropped it off. bottom line dishonest scammers. Go somewhere else. Best case scenario is they're disorganized and barely competent. But it's like they stole $50+ from me because i'll need to spend that much to replace it. read more

This place is small. There is only enough room for one customer at a time. They certainly do good work on maintaining and certifying fire extinguishers. Another plus is you can buy fire extinguishers here. They don't service First Alert fire extinguishers. I get offers from employees to carry my fire extinguisher to my car for me. As a senior citizen, I like that level of service. read more

Best Fire Equipment charged my fire extinguishers, price was decent, but I didn't get back the same ones I turned in originally and I got some that were from a different address. That is of concern because some of them look older than the ones I turned in. Fire extinguishers have to go through more extensive testing and higher cost at the 6 year mark. My business failed a fire dept. inspection due to our fire extinguisher not having its annual maintenance performed. I searched for a local place on Yelp and gave them a call. The woman I spoke to was very kind and to the point - $20 if I bring them the extinguisher for service or $40 if they drive out to me. I chose the latter and she said they would get to me within a week. The guy showed up the following day (also very friendly and professional) and exchanged my ancient fire extinguisher for a newer one and he was out within 5 mins. All for $40 bucks! Cant beat that! I needed to get my fire extinguisher refilled since the last time that it was done was 3yrs ago?! I found this place through googling & I'm glad I did. I called them up to ask for details, and Denise was friendly and helpful-- letting me know that I can schedule for them to come do the refill or I could bring the extinguisher to them to have it refilled there. Since I was in the area last Friday, I just decided to bring it to them to have it done rather than just waiting for the following week to have them come to me. Within 10mins, it was all completed. They even cleaned the thing cause it was super covered in spiderwebs (eww). Lol.. They have different prices depending on the size of the extinguisher you have. Mine costed $18something. I'll definitely hit this place up next year to get the extinguisher refilled again. read more

I use this company's service yearly. I collect the many (why not have more rather than less?) around my art studio plus those of a neighbor or two. That way my friends are also safer... Best gives quantity discounts. Ignore those iffy reviews, by the way, for the company is merely following the law. You might need that extinguisher someday... Realize that the less expensive ones (plastic) cannot be recharged so they're good for a year and then you need to buy another! Buy the good ones instead. Guardian Angels in disguise. Last night, a insufficiently-snuffed candle caught fire to things around it and caused a small but scary blaze in my parents' house, in the guest room where I've been staying. They were home, and my elderly father had been a fire fighter in his youth, so the damage was blessedly minimal. By the time I got there, my parents were exhausted from the adrenaline and it was past midnight, so we left everything as it was, and everyone went to bed. This morning I took the little fire extinguisher with me to work, promising to get it serviced the first chance I had. I also wondered idly how I was going to clean up the powder from the extinguisher, which is all over one corner of the bedroom and closet. About 15 minutes into my work shift, in walks Tony from Best Equipment Company, carrying two fire extinguishers, newly re-serviced for the workplace. On his way out I stopped him and asked if I could trouble him for some advice for how to clean up the powder. He was totally kind and helpful and answered the questions I'd been filing away in my head to internet-search later when I had the chance. He also asked me about the status of the fire extinguisher that had been used, I assume to make sure I knew to get it serviced now that it had been deployed. I said I knew I had to get it serviced, but hadn't figured out yet where or when that was gonna happen. He asked to take a look at it, and since it was in the car, we just stepped outside and I showed it to him. After examining it and confirming it needed to be serviced, Tony gallantly offered to take care of it right then and there, saving me my entire to-do list of research and driving around town to get it taken care of. As payment, he accepted the cost of a sandwich - adding to the mensch-like quality of the whole interaction with Tony. Of course, that doesn't begin to meet the level of gratitude I have for him. What Tony didn't know, of course, is that I'm in the process of moving out of my parents' house after a long stay as I rehabbed from a serious injury. Money and time are tight with the move, and although I'm on great terms with my parents, setting their house on fire was not part of my exit strategy. Something that felt like such a near-crisis has had so many moments of blessings in it - from the fact that it was noticed quickly, that my dad knew what to do, and that the little bit of damage was to my own property, not theirs. I went to bed last night counting my blessings, but also wondering and worrying about how to take care of the aftermath. Then Tony walked in, answered all my questions, reset the equipment, and made my day and life a whole lot lighter. What timing. Thanks so much, Tony! We went to Best Equipment at 3101 San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley. I have nothing but the highest praise for them and highly recommend them. When we first got there, one of the men came to our car without us asking (parked about a block away) and helped us carry the fire extinguishers to their office. He and the other employees were really nice and exceptionally knowledgeable about their products. They were very patient with us and explained everything we needed to know. They also informed us about a recall on two of our extinguishers that we might be able to get replaced for free. Additionally they told us they could sell us new ones and stated honestly that we could buy them elsewhere for cheaper and there was absolutely no pressure to buy. We left the ones that needed to be updated and were able to pick them up the next day and the price was excellent. I can not recommend these folks enough and it was really nice doing business with them. read more

I came in to get a couple fire extinguishers refilled, and the people at the front desk were pretty wonderful. They told me that if a place of business is less than 4400 sq. feet, then we only needed 1 fire extinguisher, not two, so I ended up spending $22 instead of $44. I was carrying some heavy things in addition to the fire extinguishers, and they offered to help me carry them to my car, which I totally appreciated. This tiny little shop sells and services all kinds of equipment needed for fire safety. I was busted today by the fire dept doing their usual rounds ...they spotted that my extinguisher was a year late for refilling, so I scampered down to San Pablo Ave to get it done. I knew the previous owner once upon a time, but the current owners are just as accommodating. The service is fine, however the man who came to do the service wore so much heavy cologne, the ENTIRE STORE STILL smells like him and it's been half an hour. When you are going into a business to service the fire extinguishers you shouldn't have so much scent on that they can smell you hours later. He was pleasant, and professional, however the incredibly strong cologne applied extremely liberally is very objectionable. read more

I wasn't going to bother with a negative review, but I was very put out by the woman at the counter. First, I called them to state my intention to bring in quite a number of extinguishers for inspection that had not been looked at for many years. At that point they could have informed me they do not service extinguishers with plastic parts, but they didn't. When I brought in the extinguishers the conversation around the ones with plastic and the ones with metal parts did not go well. The woman at the counter could really work on customer service skills. Having learned that my 10 extinguishers needed replacing I would have bought new ones from them then and there, if not for their customer dis-service. read more

Best Equipment in Berkeley has excellent reviews on Yelp, but NOT from me. It would be $37 to recharge etc. per fire extinguisher. I had 6 so at least $222 and they are still old. They had new ones for sale for $45. The same size and rated Fire extinguisher was on sale at Costco for $27 each. I bought 4 new fire extinguishers at Costco for my townhouse. When tested at home, my 6 old fire extinguishers all worked ok. I will NOT return to Best Equipment. read more

Apparently they mainly sell fire extinguishers, and they do a great job of it. The salespeople were very helpful and informative, both on the phone and at the counter, and the price was great for recharging our small extinguishers and buying two bigger ones. They are real nice, they do what they advertise, but resist putting a fire extinguisher in every nook and cranny. They charge you $15 a year per extinguisher to see if they are still charged, even if the extinguishers are ten feet from each other.
