I have used Acme for my 13 extinguishers for nearly 40 years. Reliable and knowledgeable.

I had an excellent experience with Acme Fire! From start to finish, their customer service was top tier. Sarra truly went above and beyond to support Imani Community Church and make sure our fire extinguishers were fully up to code. I called in the morning and sent our extinguishers over with a courier. Sarra made sure everything was received, serviced quickly, and then personally coordinated getting them packed up and handed off to another courier for return. What really stood out was how seamless and fast the whole process was--I had everything back before lunchtime the same day. That level of efficiency, care, and professionalism is rare. I'm really grateful for the support and would absolutely recommend Acme Fire to anyone looking for reliable and timely service. read more

Super quick to service our two extinguishers. No hassle and professional. Will come back again.

I recently needed to use Acme Fire Extinguisher Co. that my famaily has used for over sixty years for servising and replacement of my extinguishers. As always, there great to work with and very fair priced, Bart in the shop is exceptional. read more

Service for my fire extinguishers were quickly done, and reasonably priced. Customer service was friendly.

Such nice and knowledge people. No upsell, just solid information and help. I'd been to a community meeting with Berkeley Fire Dept and learned that my old fire extinguishers needed replacing. Calling around found Acme had the best prices for the recommended rechargeable with metal handles. Lovely woman on the phone - so helpful- including parking tips. Staff on site were knowledgeable, informative, and just so nice. Highly recommend read more

Perfect. Came out next day, professional quick services all fire extinguishers and said will send/call reminder for next year.

Does anyone need a new reliable fire extinguisher or recharge an old one? We all do. I live in a four plex so my motivation was to invite all the units in buying at least one. Success. It was reported that one of the tenants parents was very happy about this. read more

I dropped in to pick up a wall attachment for a non-standard extinguisher, having checked first to see if they had it. Sadly, no. But Bruce didn't give up until he found a used one, spruced it up, and gave it to me to make up for the inconvenience. Terrific customer service and really nice folks. read more

ATTENTION SODASTREAMers and LOVERS of all things bubbly! Save money by filling up a CO2 tank here instead of buying the CO2 refill bottles! Basically, Google "how to refill sodastream co2 bottles" and you will be able to refill your CO2 bottles at home instead of buying the pricey refill bottles. I bought a CO2 tank and CO2 refill adapter off Amazon. Then, I brought the CO2 tank (5lbs) into Acme to get it filled with CO2. With tax, it was $27. I look forward to refilling many bottles at that price. The place is small and simple. With COVID, only 1 customer inside at a time. I brought the tank in and was told to pick it up two days later. It feels like a very small family business, but it seems like they're busy because you can't walk away with the filled tank right away - you have to come back. They fill tanks at a certain time everyday and they can either slot you in for the next day or the next? It probably depends on how busy they are. If you want, you can call in advance to see when you would get the tank back. read more

I have used this company for years, and I don't know if they changed owners, but they have changed. I was called to have my extinguishers serviced. I hadn't gotten back to them but someone showed up at my home unannounced and somehow got into my locked gate. They went back into my basement and found one extinguisher there and serviced that and they found a tenant of mine doing laundry and got their extinguisher so a total of 2. They did not access my extinguisher or my other tenant's, who was away and confirmed she didn't give them hers. Then I got a bill for 4 extinguishers being serviced. I called them and was upset that they had come onto my property and then overcharged me. They said I had set up the appointment, but there is no way, as I had to arrange with the tenants to get their extinguishers before. I have text messages from them, too, without a response from me. They told me they'd take care of the bill and I would not have to pay. Now I have received two notices that my account is overdue for servicing 4 extinguishers. I called them again today to rectify it in a respectful way, and I was told my original call was on speaker and everyone heard it (without my knowledge) and not to contact them again and hung up on me. Very disappointing. Very rude. And they are not doing what they said. read more

Wanted to get into home carbonation but a sodastream wouldn't suit my needs. Went there to get a 20oz CO2 tank refill. Dropped it off and picked it up next day for $12 plus tax. No hassles and a reasonable price. I'll definitely come back to them for refills in the future. FYI they said they fill around 1-2PM, so you want to drop it off in the morning for same day. read more

While the parking situation here is horrible, the customer service is OUTSTANDING. Big kudos to Marcos was especially helpful on my last visit. Normally I some here to get my fire extinguishers checked or to purchase a new one. But this time I just need to get a special hook to hang the extinguisher on the wall. With only a photo of my extinguisher, Marco was able to quickly provide me with the exact part I needed. And he gave me a demo on one of extinguishers here. read more

Marco helped us out today with our fire extinguisher refill. He was prompt, professional, and friendly. Within 10 minutes of arriving, we were out the door with our refilled extinguisher. Fire department came and said my fire extinguisher had expired tags. I brought my extinguisher to Marco late on Friday afternoon. He said I needed a parts service done as well and that they would have to keep it overnight. Which meant Monday. He then decided to see if he could fit it in so I wouldn't be out a safety device over the weekend. He was able to get it done. Much appreciated! And good Conversation while waiting. read more

I've had excellent, quick service from Acme Fire Extinguisher on hydrotesting my oxygen cylinders. Discharge all the pressure from the cylinder before transporting. Fees: 1-20 cubic foot cylinder $21; 20-50 cubic foot cylinder $35. Larger - negotiable. Service is typically 24 hour... drop off at 3PM, pick up at 3PM the next day. They're open Monday through Friday 8:30-5. If you have exact change in cash, you won't have to wait for someone to come from the back who knows how to use the credit card machine. If you're arriving from the west on Fruitvale, turn left on to East 13th Street and park in the green zone; this allows you enough time to drop off or pick up your cylinders for hydrotest. EXCELLENT customer service. I had an old Kidde plastic handle fire extinguisher that needed a recharge. I called and the person answered 1) quickly determined that my model had a plastic handle and was recalled, 2) scrambled around and found/gave me the 800 number to call and get a free replacement. Knowledgeable, friendly, expedient consultation. GREAT service !!! read more

I strolled in very close to closing time and was given no guff for it. My extinguisher was wisked away, checked out. Refilled, recharged and 22$ later I was back on the road. They have all the stickers and warning stuff and cabinets for fire extinguishers you might mount at work. They do corporate training on how to use them so think about that. Finally, you might also check in with your neighbors before you head down. Ask them to check the tags and the gauges on their extinguishers right now and offer to save them the trip. You'll be doing the right thing and maybe keeping a fire from jumping, fully formed from their house to yours... a thought to inspire some enlightened self-interest. read more

Such a friendly little shop. We have just a few extinguishers a year to get serviced, and normally drop off and pick up a couple days later. They've been helpful with mounting brackets when needed. This year they gave us a reminder call ... went in this morning and they did them right away ... 10 minutes and done!! Love it! read more

Came here to buy rechargeable extinguishers for my apartment after a disposable one went low. They also service existing extinguishers. Pluses: * Really helpful service: pre-visit phone call and in-person discussion made me confident of what I was buying. I was happy with advice on how to use and store my new equipment. * Accessible from BART/bus/on-street parking * They were nice enough to recycle my disposable extinguisher Minuses: * Bare bones, functional sales space * No weekend hours: tough to make it here if you work conventional office hours. read more

Amazing. The guy at the desk seemed to know EVERYTHING about fire extinguishers. It was so cool. This is probably a pretty old shop. Non-descript. Not fancy. Utilitarian. But man, I was in and out of there in ten minutes, a happy camper. I think there are no photos merely because the service here is so GOOD. If you're being helped the moment you walk in, there's no time to embrace your inner Annie Leibowitz. My ancient (1977!) condo fire extinguisher couldn't be refilled, so I bought a new, medium-sized one for about $50. That's a lot of security for half a Benjamin. Metered street parking. read more

I have been coming here for several years and highly recommend it. Acme has an amazing offering of fire extinguishers, signs and related items. Their prices are very reasonable: getting a chemical fire extinguisher recharged was just $12.50. Actually, Bruce (the Founder's grandson who now runs it) saved me time by just exchanging my old extinguisher for a new one --- I was in and out in 5 minutes. The shop is easily accessible off the Fruitvale exit of 880 and there is ample street parking. The shop has been in business since 1941, so you know they are doing something right!!! I highly recommend Acme. read more

I needed to have my fire extinguisher checked before participating in an art festival this weekend.
