You had me at Gluten Free! This spot was a miracle for us! Located just a couple shops down from our hotel it was the first stop for dinner when we arrived to Ireland! after a day of travel the casual relaxed environment was perfect! They can make most things gluten free and I felt safe for my celiac needs. While traveling we know cross contact is a risk, however this risk felt safe to take. Dedicated frier and the guys were knowledgeable about celiac. It was so good we will go back before we head back to the states.

Totally hit the spot for delicious, gluten-free fish & chips while in Dublin. Shotgun review: - Interior has old school diner vibes - Centrally located with great people watching - Quick service - Underwhelming fries - Delicious, crispy fish* - Slightly greasy, overfull feeling after we ate** *And it's GLUTEN-FREE! A rare occurrence & exactly what I needed. Thank you! **To be expected, right? We snarfed these meals down, doused in malt vinegar, so fast. We had to walk it off by criss crossing through Dublin for a few hours after our meal.

Fish & Chips!

I greatly enjoyed my Northern Dublin Inner City visit to Beshoff's for some Irish Fish & Chops. They make the food fresh so it takes about 10 minutes to get. Very fresh and not greasy. You get a lighter sauce-- not the heavier tartar sauce that you get in the USA. Staff is friendly and helpful. The ambience is very colkegiate and fun. This place makes me want to return to Ireland!

The presentation is great here for tourism and I feel that one should have fish and chips when in the UK. I thought however that the food was a bit bland. This is more of a place to go as it is conveniently located in Dublin.

Only 8.25 euro for the nice tasty plate of Fish N Chips! (It was my 3rd FNC in Ireland)

Best value for fresh Fish N Chips in Dublin! 8.25 euro for a hearty plate of Fish N Chips! YES! Or you can opt for a salad instead of chips, or do half and half like I did. After heavy Irish eating, it was nice to get some fresh veggies into my Californian metabolism. This was the only Fish N Chips for less than 10 euro I could find during my 9 day Ireland vacay. The one flaw is the lack of freshly made tarter sauce, but otherwise this is great food for the budget traveler.

This is my least favourite Beshoff's. It just looks a bit dingy from the outside, and it's no better on the inside. I always associate Beshoff's with the lovely little place they have in Howth, with friendly staff and really fresh food. This place is the complete opposite. Avoid!

Battered cod

Two stars might be a little generous as this was not anything much more than ordinary. Let's just say I won't be in a rush back anytime soon!! The battered cod arrived at our table a short time after ordering. So far so good. After about two bites, I noticed a hair in the batter. A MASSIVE hair. I could literally pick up the whole fish with the hair. I brought it to the staffs attention. They offered to replace the meal. Normally I'd have rathered my money back to be honest, but since I was with others and quite hungry, I settled for it. And as I say, it was okayish.....but I won't be back.

Awesome pic huh?!? Lovely view of the spire on O'Connell St

I must say I'm a convert - I vote Beshoff as Dublin's best fish and chips (sorry Leo), if only for its prime location smack bang in the middle of O'Connell Street. I don't know how many times I've walked past this particular branch, promising myself I'd pay a visit one day. Today was the day, and I swear I am a changed woman! Everyone who visits Dublin should go to Beshoff's O'Connell St because it is a beacon of good and hope and light in the centre of a (let's face it) pretty disappointing main street, for a capital city, anyway. Don't even bother sitting downstairs, if you do you have wasted your Beshoff experience! Downstairs is unimpressive and looks just like BK, but upstairs is truly heaven! Try for a window seat if possible, it really does afford a wonderful view of Dublin's main drag. Great for people watching. The upstairs area is large and bright and on the back wall there are some rather elegant-looking stained glass windows. Now for the food: I have to say, I think it's healthier than Leo's, although let's face it, any fish and chip meal in Ireland is going to leave your arteries heaving for the next couple of weeks. The fish and chips come with lemon (big bonus in my opinion) and the portions are very filling, to say the least! As for the Beshoff tradition, apparently the guy who established the chain moved over here from Russia in 1913. He sold fish and chips his whole life and lived to the grand old age of 1003 or something. His father lived to some other equally improbable vintage, and his father did the same. A little common sense here... these people were living in 18th and 19th Century Russia - think Crime and Punishment - death, dark, cold, and hunger, washed down with copious amounts of vodka. But who really knows? Maybe they did live to the ripe old ages quoted in the Beshoff history section, or maybe it's just an old wives' tale. Whatever it is, the fish and chips are good, and that's the main thing :-)

This place is fine. Not bad not great. The fish is good because the breaking thin. It's also "flavorless" meaning aside from the taste of the cod, lemon juice and tartar sauce, the batter didn't have much other flavor which is fine for me, I like my food a little on the bland side. If you like more flavor, do add salt! I got my cod with salad, which was good. It had lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and onion. Nice light balance for the fried fish. It also came with coleslaw which I don't really like in general so I didn't eat much of it. If you see an area with tourism pamphlets, look for Beshoffs. There's a coupon in there for a cod meal (includes coffee or tea) for 10€. Nothing is substitute with that offer.

OK I'll admit they're nice chips. Really very good even. These are quality chips, traditionally cooked and with that great vinegar that vapours up your nose when you unwrap them. And the fish is good too, it does have to be said. But I have to disagree with Jo - Burdocks are better... they just are! But I'll certainly give Beshoffs a close second. And this particular one has a nice restauranty place where you can sit and have your chips. Whether Burdocks or Beshoff everyone who visits Dublin should have these chips because they really surpass chips you will get anywhere else!

I had to have traditional fish and chips before I left Dublin and this place was close to the hotel. It was exactly what I wanted and tasted exactly how I had expected. But the batter was perfectly crispy and the fish was so fresh. The chips were delicious and unlike in America they were not salty at all, just perfect. Secretly I want to sneak away and eat there for dinner tonight.

I am shocked that this place is getting such low reviews. Perhaps it's because I am not used to fresh seafood (as a resident of the Upper Midwest), but this was the tastiest fish I've EVER had the pleasure of eating. I had the hake. My only complaint is how BIG the portions are. I literally skipped dinner that night because I was STILL full from having lunch here. It was worth it, but if I went here again, I'd split a plate with a friend.

The place was almost packed when we came in, with the only available table being a high and cozy one in the middle. However, one at the front soon opened up, which we grabbed. Folks still kept coming in, and even though they were short staffed, the new customers were sent to the upstairs dining room, and advised to order downstairs. Our Adult beverages consisted of an O'Hara Pale Ale and Red, Chardonnay and water among the 4 of us. 3 really good Tuna Melts were ordered plus a tasty New Yorker (Pastrami with sauerkraut, gherkins, cheese, rocket and mustard), and chips/fries for the table. A little coffee and tea ended the meal, and we were soon on our way. In the USA, a restaurant may ask a general question about food allergies, but in Ireland there are lots of codes designating this and that. Here's Brannigans list: ALLERGENS - 1 Gluten 2. As an example, the Tuna Melt was 1, 3, 6, and 13, while the New Yorker was 1,3, and 6.

Food was good. Beer excellent. Prices reasonable. We ate on the second floor where it was quieter and easier to get the barkeeps attention. The live music was on the first floor so if you want to listen to that, stay there. Five stars is we'd go back again even if it were out of our way. No, but it's a solid four stars we'd eat there again with no complaints whatsoever.

I was a bit intimidated due to some physical limitations with my knees and hips. The staff was friendly and they do offer to help you carry up your bags however we did not take them up on it. It ended up being OK, I get it that it's almost impossible to retrofit an elevator into these old buildings. It was quiet, I didn't hear any of the neighbors in the building. I felt very safe in both the apartment and in the area. Everything you need is within a couple blocks of walking distance. The bus that takes you back back-and-forth to the airport is about two blocks away and easy walk. The sidewalks are smooth enough that it's no problem to roll your suitcase. There's a lot of food choices and a big grocery store right on the same block. That brings me to the food. We did not cook in the apartment, but I suspect we could have if we wanted to put together something basic. There's a microwave and a kettle and a very handy refrigerator which we utilized. The attached restaurant feels like family. They treat you like family. The food was great, although that fish and chips put me down for the count. It's just so much food oh my goodness. I love the fact that they had delicious draft beer on tap, they had fantastic desserts, you could see right into the kitchen and see them preparing some food. Everybody on the whole staff was so friendly. I think maybe they are family I'm not sure about that but they certainly treat you like you are family. We got there early to check in and so we went in the restaurant and they put our bags in the corner where it was safe and by the time we were done eating, our room was ready. I saved this one in my book because I will definitely be back.

I want to point out that if you have any mobility issues the first floor would only be available to…read moreyou as there is no way to get to the other floors without using the stairs. We did use that stairs but it was a challenge to do so. The Oval Bar was recommended to us by someone who had been there oftern. The place as been in existence since 1822 so we thought we would take in the feel of the place. We found the bar area to be quite crowded and not a space that would be very comfortable. We headed up to the next level (there are a number of steps to get there) and found a mixture of tables and wall seating. We were greeted pretty quickly by our server but found that she didn't speak or understand English very well but we were able to place our drink orders. They have an extensive drink menu with pretty much anything you want. The food menu is a two page 'booklet' containing starters and mains that would give someone enough choices to find something they would like. There is also a child's menu on the back and desserts although you need to check with the server to see what desserts they have. We ordered the 1/2 chicken with vegetables (carrots in this case) and the Irish stew. The chicken was well cooked, nice crispy skin and a huge portion, could have ordered just that and split it between us. The carrots were large slices served on the side. The Irish stew came in a large bowl with plenty of chunks of tender lamb shoulder, potatoes, carrots and onions in a nice gravy. A slice of brown bread and butter was served on the side. Like most restaurants we have been to while in Ireland the wait staff seem to disappear after you food has been delivered. It took several tries with different wait staff (2 to be exact) before we could get another round of drinks. Ordered the check at the same time to avoid waiting any longer. All of the wait staff we dealt with had problems speaking and understanding English which made it a little bit of a challenge. Another couple sitting next to use expressed the same issue. But the food was good, most important part of the visit. And we appreciated all of the people that were in the pub that helped us get up and down the stairs, proved that people are friendly everywhere in Ireland.
