I love Berthillon! This is the most amazing ice cream anywhere, and you don't want to miss it. Portions are small by American standards, but they just pack more flavor into a more sensible size. So much fuss over this gelato/glace and I was a bit disappointed. I've been to Paris quite a few times and I am not sure why I have skipped over this. Last night, I walked over and got a cone with lime and coconut glace. It was good, but not out of this world! Granted, it is December, so maybe if it were July and it was hot, I would have appreciated it more. My daughter thinks it is expensive for what you get. I've been told that many other ice cream shops and cafés serve Berthillon, but the original has got to be best, right? Scoop size may seem on the small side, especially compared to what we're used to in America, but it's great for trying multiple flavors and worth every centime (except for the €0,30 we were charged for getting an extra cup for someone who had already gotten a cone). fraise des bois (seasonal, I believe): 5 stars - great flavor, tasted like real strawberries, not artificial at all, perfect amount of tartness, not overly sweet, even had small pieces of strawberries in the sorbet vanilla: 5 - declared by my friend to be the best vanilla ice cream he'd ever had; they got the flavor right-on, not overpowering with the creaminess coffee and chocolate: 4 - nothing extraordinary but still good You really can't go wrong with your standard vanilla and chocolate, but I would recommend trying some more unique flavors (there are plenty to choose from). Even on the grey, drizzly July afternoon we went, the line was out the door. Fortunately, service is quick, and there's plenty of seating inside. We chose to take our ice cream with us while exploring the quartier latin. It is a little pricy given the size of the portion, but definitely worth the money and the wait. read more

In 1980 during my senior year in college I visited Paris and was tipped off about a fabulous ice cream place on the Ile Saint Louis called Berthillon. It was amazing then....it's still amazing! We were back during a recent trip and it's still probably the richest, creamiest yummiest ice cream I've had. The Sea Salt Caramel is completely too die for. I could eat it all day long! No trip to Notre Dame should happen without a Berthillon connection. Actually, it's easier now than ever since it appears that several other local places are selling their product. My parents ate here on their honeymoon in the 80's, and it's the only place my dad has ever ordered a cone of ice cream, eaten it, and then turned around and got another one. After my eurotrip that included 2 weeks in Italy, Berthillion is at the top of my list for gelato. There are several locations on the island of St. Louis, so it is impossible to miss. I tried the strawberry and mango flavors, and both were mindblowing. I felt like I was tasting the fruit itself. The gelato was rich, dense, not too sweet, but very very flavorful. For how good this is, the price is comparable to all other places I have seen. If you are lucky, you may find a pianist or another street performer on the bridge, where you can enjoy your dessert in a free outdoor concert. This was truly picturesque and one of the best memories I had in Europe. read more

What can I say? Still the best ice cream in the world. This time I had cherries - which was superb. Plenty of fruit, not too sweet, just a perfect bite of natural wonder. They didn't have my favorite white chocolate but I will be back this week to have a different flavor. Make sure to try something you will never taste, such as pumpkin or carrots or even avocado or cucumber. The place is simple yet magical. It used to be closed in August for the summer vacation. I wonder if it still operates that way - but it is still that kind of a unique French place for me. I think 1 scoop was 3E. This is a must stop for any Yelper. Great place for ice cream. My admin, who is French, suggested this spot, so I had to check it out. We got the salted caramel and grapefruit flavors, and both were delicious. The grapefruit is a sorbet, and my fave was the salted caramel. So good. There are a bunch of restaurants in the area that sell Berthillon ice cream, but I wanted to go to the actual shop. A great place to stop by for ice cream. It's not too far from Notre Dame, so definitely make a slight detour if you can! read more

I went to Paris a couple of years back and the taste of this place's salted caramel ice cream still crosses my mind whenever I walk into any ice cream place here. I remember I came here the last day I was in Paris and walked along the Siene river and walked onto this tiny tiny island. Best decision ever. It is a very small "shop" and there wasn't a line when I went, however, I did hear it does get very long. With my failed ten years of trying to learn French, I ordered the salted caramel ice cream and it was AMAZING. It was not too creamy and it had great silky texture. I love how the portions are not massive and the cone was not too sweet or anything. I love this place and will definitely go back when I head back to Paris. read more

Probably the best ice cream in Paris with the widest range of flavors and nicest setting at L'île St Louis. Definitely a place to go with your girlfriend on a Sunday in summer. BEST ice cream of life!!!! U will never have ice cream better than this. So many flavours and they r all SO good! It's a bit expensive for the size u get but trust me, it's worth it. The pistachio one is amazing. Most places have the lime green looking ones, but this place is not like that at all. So legit. The fruity flavours are all amazing like an explosion of the fruit in your mouth. Unfortunately i didn't get a chance to try this ice cream. I usually love Parisians, im Russian, who lived in NY, so u wouldn't scare me with a cold attitude, but this lady over the counter even surprised me. They dont let you try flavours, they dont accept cards, which they say in french in little letters somewhere near the cashier and are super confused if u didnt notice. First, a disclaimer: when I visited Paris this past August, the actual Berthillion was expectedly closed for the holidays, so I guess I technically haven't tried the "real thing". That said, plenty of cafes and restaurants on Ile Saint Louis offer Berthillion ice cream, so settle I did. I tried the tiramisu flavor at Au Sergent Recruter down the street and OH. MY. GOD. It really is basically the best ice cream known to man, even on a full stomach. The texture is difficult to describe: it's creamy but light, flavorful but not too sweet. This is the most famous ice cream store in ALL of Paris. It is definitely something worth trying. I however didn't enjoy it as much as Amorino. I got the raspberry and Marron flavors. The salted butter caramel was very good. The sorbets were only OK. We had some time to kill and decided to stop by Berthillon and I'm so glad we did. We waited on line for about 20 minutes. When we got to the counter, the servers were helpful, pleasant to talk to, and allowed us several samples before deciding. I think I tried praline, pistachio, blackcurrant & passion fruit. My favorite one was blackcurrant. It was so flavorful, smooth, and delicious. Nothing like what I have had in the States before. It IS pricey and you get two small scoops (you can also choose 2 different flavors for 1 scoop each), but well worth it to try once. read more

Came here while on vacation. We asked some locals around the area where the best ice cream in Paris is, and they sent us here. So. So. So amazing. American ice cream just doesn't compare. While looking for this establishment to review, I noticed all the other top places!! I can't wait to visit again and eat a lllll the ice cream! Yes you can find some flavors in the neighborhood and in Paris ( Le Café rue Tiquetonne close to me) but not ALL flavors ... Whoever makes Berthillon ice cream, they must be witches. Because witchcraft is the only reasonable explanation of how they make their flavors so amazing. Their cassis sorbet is one of the best things I have ever eaten. While I was unfortunate to find their flagship location closed on my visit to Paris, I went to the surrounding restaurants and cafes that serve their product no less than five times on my visit. The worst thing I have to say about their product is that a few flavours (such as the mango and coffee) taste similar to other high-end ice cream/sorbets I've had. But the others? The others are above and beyond amazing. Yes, the scoops are smaller than our ridiculous American basketball-sized scoops, but they are worth every penny. My only regret is not shelling out the euros for three flavors per cone each time I visited. read more

I went to the flagship location on Île Saint-Louis (there are many stands nearby selling the ice cream though, and many restaurants throughout the city). The best flavors were framboise (raspberry) and chocolat noir, and the vanilla was good not great. The framboise was just very unique though, with a texture and flavor I've never tasted in ice cream before. That's why I'm giving high stars. It went well with the dark chocolate, too. read more
