I was absolutely stoked when I saw there was an Amorino right across from the restaurant we had dinner at! Back home, in Boston, we have two locations. Amorino is known for their creamy, smooth gelato, crepes, and gelato filled macarons. I loved their gelatos because they always make the prettiest "flower" gelato cones. Today, I got a petit (small) sized cone with mango and yogurt gelato & my sister got a petit sized cone with just hazelnut + a chocolate macaron. Both were delicious and buttery smooth + creamy. Staff was friendly & even though the line was out of the door, the staff works fast + efficiently so we didn't have to wait long at all. What an adorable little place!!! We stumbled across this place with only 10 minutes to closing and they were so nice!!!!! They were fully stocked on all of their gelatos and each flavor was AMAZING!!! they have everything from crepes, to gelato burgers (looks amazing!) We had a little bit of everything so we got the specials which look like roses with a yummy macaroon on top! Our ice creams were Mango, Coconut, and strawberry and the other one was Vanilla, pistachio, and chocolate chip! They were SOOOOO GOOD! The area is also awesome so this is the perfect place to stop before Norte Dame or after dinner!!! They have spots to sit around and also the Street it's on is super popular so you can take your ice cream to go and walk around! There is no greater ice cream shop in the world that Amorino, delicious all year round but especially on hot summer day or night in Paris. This taste off was the perfect example of quality vs. quantity, and that quantity often means very little. Amorino definitely wins out on the quantity side. They have more flavors, and more options of how to deliver the gelato to your mouth - via sandwich, waffle, cone, or cup. They also attempt to scoop your gelato into the shape of a flower. When it comes to quality, Amorino falls flat. My friend who can't have dairy tried the sorbet, and it tasted like typical icy sorbet. It wasn't bad, but nothing special. The chocolate sorbet had a artificial chocolate flavor to it, which reminded me of the taste of fudge ice pops. My gelato while not bad, was nothing special either. Overall a three star gelato shop. They lost another star for service. I don't know why more people are not commenting on the macaroons, I mean during my visit to Paris I tried a few macaroons (and by a few I mean every one I passed). I even tried the "best macaroons" Laduree, and well they were good as all macaroons are but frankly I like these better. The ordering process wasn't that easy, you go in and pay at the register, but for first timers you can't tell them the flavors you want because there is a line covering the display case. I loved this place! A friend recommended it to me so I wanted to try and then I saw it was right by my place! It was almost eleven in a very cold night and I was really hungry. Usually yelp is spot on with this, but here I regretfully and respectfully disagree, as yelp will most likely point you to Grom, but I repeat, Amorino is the number one spot for icecream. My personal favorite is the amarena, a vanilla-y light cherry treat for those not always craving chocolate, though they do have a very good Nutella flavor as well as the best dark chocolate icecream I've ever had when I am indeed in the mood for some cocoa bean.
