    Cassis & framboise sorbets

The île Saint-Louis is pretty special, & so is Berthillon. There are several walk-up windows & cafes that offer the famous ice cream brand, but the original location is smack-dab in the center of the island. I'll spare you the details of how lactose is no friend of mine, but that's how I ended up with sorbet instead of dairy-heavy ice cream. My companion & I shared two scoops on a cone -- fresh & naturally-sweet framboise, as well as cassis (blackcurrant) which, to our tastebuds, was reminiscent of earthy but syrupy tamarind. A superb treat!

Wow so good! Must try, must come back again! Flavors were interesting and unique; not overpriced; flavors were robust. We tried the Rum and Raisin - very rummed raisin so in case you don't like it too boozy many it's not for you. Date and Nuts - YUM. The island has several Berthillon which can be confusing, make sure you make it all the way towards the end for this ice cream shop.

I've been trying to get to this little walk up ice cream stand for years. I finally made it! It is on a small street about a 10 minute walk from Notre Dame. They serve both ice cream and sorbet in cones or cups. The basic flavors were available as well as some unique ones. My daughter had chocolate which was very rich. I had the chocolate mendanti which is chocolate with nuts and fruits. It's based on a cake. It was very good. The cones are a little small. The queue moved fast.

If you're in Paris, you must stop here. Best ice cream on the planet. I've tasted a lot of ice cream in my days and this is the only one I'm willing to stand in line for so yeah, be ready to stand in line, but it's worth it.

Berthillon is both the most famous ice cream maker in Paris and the most famous destination on the Île Saint-Louis, that other island in the Seine east of Île de la Cité. They have a to-go shop, but it is worth taking time to stop in at their salon de thé next door. A pot of tea comes with a scoop of ice cream and two small sweets, but a full three-scoop dish allows one to try more of their unique flavors, like prune and Armagnac, marron glacé (candied chestnut) and rum, or the perfect French vanilla.

Berthillon was on my bucket list of places to try on my recent trip to Paris, and I'm so glad that I made the special trip out to Île Saint Louis. I was a bit intimidated by the line out the door; however, it moved faster than expected, and getting to sitting down in this posh ice cream parlor was absolutely worth it. Berthillon offers an assortment of ice cream and sorbets that are perfect for mixing and matching. I selected the pear sorbet because I've never seen that flavor on a menu before and paired it with the salted butter caramel ice cream. The pear flavor was sublime--imagine a canned pear, but way better. It paired perfectly with the rich and smooth salted butter caramel ice cream. My friends opted for the fig and melon flavors and were just as pleased with their choices. The whole experience felt like a nostalgic trip back in time and made eating ice cream feel like a luxury experience.

Before my first ever visit to Paris, a friend recommended I go to Berthillon for ice cream. I managed to not make it here over 2 visits, but the 3rd time is the charm and I finally got to try this famous ice cream on Île Saint-Louis. Do not be deceived by the empty storefront that is across the street, as I was when I walked up to the darkened windows and felt so much despair until my partner turned me around to see the very much open ice cream shop just across the way. (Not sure what this other space is, if it's a former space or a planned future space.) There is a walk-up line and then next door a sit-down cafe, so you can choose your experience. We lucked out and happened upon Berthillon when there wasn't a huge line, although the crowd outside did worry me at first -- it was a crowd of people just enjoying their ice cream outside on a nice day and not queuing to buy it. Berthillon has a lot of unique flavors that I don't see much elsewhere, and I really really relished my pear and strawberry scoops (which I believe may both actually be sorbets and not ice creams?). Strawberry is one of my classic favorites but I don't get it much out and about unless I trust they will have that real strawberry fruity essence and Berthillon certainly delivered. EXACTLY what I was hoping it would be after a long and unseasonably warm day, much like the pear was as well. It was just so so refreshing, I was thinking about my Berthillon treat long after we left and I'm so grateful I was finally able to visit after 10 years of waiting.

An incredible ice cream and sorbet spot that's always busy, right in the center of Paris. If you're looking for the best ice cream and sorbet around, you've found it here. It's a classic place that has been around for ages, and deserves to be. There's absolutely always a line out the door, and it's completely warranted. The main part of the shop is essentially just a walk up, and there's also a second room now that had table service. The design and ambiance is upscale traditional, with beautiful wooden walls. The staff is extremely friendly and let you take your time, even when they're busy. They have an extensive list of extremely high quality flavors that are all delicious. From fruity flavors like grapefruit to rich caramels and nuts, they've really mastered it all. Everything is so flavorful, creamy, and smooth, and absolutely not too sweet. Scoops are small, but prices are reasonable for the quality. I make sure to always swing by whenever I can, and you should too!

Really great flavors in a very smooth and creamy ice cream. It's worth seeking out and the hype.

Angelina, Paris, France -- April 12…read more Our family of four with kids ages 9 and 10 stopped here for lunch after visiting the Louvre, drawn in by its reputation for having the best hot chocolate in the world. We were looking for a place to relax and refuel, and the experience felt a bit mixed overall. Arrival and First Impressions The space is elegant with classic Parisian charm. The line moved quickly, and we were seated with a great view of the dining room. It felt refined but still comfortable. The Highlights The famous hot chocolate lived up to expectations, thick, rich, and almost more like a dessert than a drink. We also had French onion soup and an éclair, both of which were very good. The pastries were clearly well made and thoughtfully prepared. The kids had chicken tenders, which they enjoyed, even though the tomato sauce was a bit different from what they expected. The Challenges The biggest drawback was the price. The meal felt expensive for what we ordered, coming in at €154 for a fairly simple lunch. Service felt slightly rushed as they moved tables along quickly. Final Thoughts We would likely return if we were nearby and specifically craving the hot chocolate again. It is a classic Paris stop and worth trying once, but the value may not justify going out of your way unless that signature experience is high on your list.

It really tastes like melted chocolate with a bit of milk mixed in to make it more drinkable. We went at a bit of an off time, late morning and it wasn't overly busy. We saw our server once and I couldn't recall who he was when it came time to get the bill. I asked a hostess walking by for our check and she told me to ask our server while walking away. We were able to flag another server down eventually but the whole process just took too long. The tables for four have chairs that don't quite tuck in causing for a bit awkward seating. If you like really thick hot chocolate, give it a try but otherwise ok to miss this one. Plenty of good hot chocolate throughout the city.
